GENERAL:

From Gold Coast Turf Club 8 May 2010 – Race 5 Silk Stocking 1200m

Rider B. El-Issa pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b) in that when he rode ACQUIRED the fifth placegetter, he failed to ride that mare out to the end of the race. When considering penalty stewards were of the view that his actions did affect the horse’s placing bearing in mind the margin to the fourth placegetter PLAIN MAGIC was a nose. B. El-Issa was fined the sum of $1,000.00.

Race 1: Christmas In July Sat 10 July QTIS 3YO H’Cap - 1400m
1st – Fantastic Force 2nd – Mitayden 3rd – Catallion 4th – Lunar Life

MAJESTIC SOUND (App M. Palmer) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

LUNAR LIFE (J. Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out forcing JUSTALON (App M. Hellyer) out onto the hind quarters of UNREFUSEABLE (M. Palmer).

M. Palmer the rider of UNREFUSEABLE was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 1200m when not clear of LUNAR LIFE, which was tightened and taken in onto MITAYDEN (P. Hammersley), which was also severely tightened for room and taken in onto ELEGANT RULER (D. Barron), which had to be checked. M. Palmer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 5 June 2010 and expire midnight 16 June 2010.
UNREFUSEABLE and LUNAR LIFE both overraced in the early and middle stages.

CATALLION (D. Griffin) was held up rounding the home turn and after passing the 400m shifted out and bumped MITAYDEN (P. Hammersley). CATALLION was then held up when unable to obtain clear running until near the 200m.

Near the 300m FANTASTIC FORCE (G. Colless) shifted in and bumped MITAYDEN.

For the majority of the home straight ELEGANT RULER (D. Barron) was held up and unable to improve when racing behind UNREFUSEABLE, which was weakening.

MAJESTIC SOUND raced 3 wide throughout the event.

A post race veterinary examination of JUSTALON, which weakened badly from the 600m revealed no significant abnormalities.

MITAYDEN suffered a bleeding attack during the event. The gelding will now incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of FANTASTIC FORCE trainer A. Bailey reported that the horse had pleased in its track work for today’s event and he was not surprised of a forward showing by the horse today.


Race 2: Melbourne Cup Nov 2 Book Now Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden H’Cap - 1200m
1st – Into The Dark 2nd – The Cranberries 3rd – Dapper 4th – Lord Antolini

As C. Munce was late on course due to transport difficulties stewards permitted B. El-Issa to be substituted as the rider of SURGIN’ ON.

INTO THE DARK (J. Bowditch) jumped awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with SURGIN’ ON (B. El-Issa).

After being a little slow to begin COCORVADA (R. Wiggins) was tightened for room shortly after the start between NEDIYM THUNDER (App L. Rolls), which shifted out and KORVEY CHOICE (M. Palmer), which shifted in.
COCORVADA (R. Wiggins) raced greenly in the early stages and near the 1000m when overracing had to be checked off the heels of LORD ANTOLINI (J. Taylor).

Approaching the 1000m LINGFIELD ROAD (B. Hull) shifted out away from THE CRANBERRIES (B. Stewart), resulting in VARSITY’S VEIN (D. Griffin) being taken out across the running of SURGIN’ ON, which had to be checked.

Near the 900m DAPPER (S. Katsidis), which was laying in, raced awkwardly at the heels of KORVEY CHOICE. DAPPER then shifted out resulting in LORD ANTOLINI being hampered.
In the early part of the home straight THE CRANBERRIES was held up and unable to improve.

KORVEY CHOICE, CARN (S. Richardson) and COCORVADA all raced wide throughout the event.

When questioned as to the riding tactics adopted today and also the seemingly improved performance of INTO THE DARK trainer K. Stabe stated that it had been intended the horse be ridden midfield however, she informed J. Bowditch that he should make use of the suitable barrier which resulted in the horse racing closer to the lead than anticipated. K. Stabe also added that at the horse’s previous start at Gatton the horse struck interference and was confident INTO THE DARK would run well today.

A post race veterinary examination of VARSITY’S VEIN failed to reveal any significant abnormality.


Race 3: Gold Coast Turf Club Fillies & Mares Maiden H’Cap - 1200m
1st – Baby Boom 2nd – Gabarlis Girl 3rd – Cartier Belle 4th – Diva Dance

CARTIER BELLE (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

SHE BELONGS TO ME (C. Munce), MIDNIGHT INTERLUDE (G. Colless) and DIVA DANCE (App M. Hellyer) were all slow to begin.

Approaching the 800m GOT THE ROCK (B. El-Issa) made the turn awkwardly and shifted out taking DIVA DANCE (App M. Hellyer) out onto MOSSCEDES (L. Cassidy), which was taken out onto the heels of REBIRTH (J. Bowditch), which was also shifting in slightly.

Near the 200m CARTIER BELLE shifted out around the heels of DIVA DANCE and made contact with GOT THE ROCK, which was taken out onto MOSSCEDES, which was hampered. J. Byrne the rider of CARTIER BELLE was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

At the entrance to the straight MIDNIGHT INTERLUDE, which was inclined to lay in had to be checked to avoid the heels of VAUDEVILLE (J. Holder), which shifted out around the heels of REBIRTH, which shifted out away from MOSSCEDES.

REBIRTH, MOSSCEDES and VAUDEVILLE all raced wide throughout the event.

When questioned regarding the performance of MIDNIGHT INTERLUDE jockey G. Colless explained that the filly never travelled comfortably and was inclined to lay in throughout the race. A post race veterinary examination of MIDNIGHT INTERLUDE revealed the filly to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer A. Bailey was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to MIDNIGHT INTERLUDE again racing.

L. Cheshire the rider of ZAHGINTY pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift in near the 250m, which resulted in SHE BELONGS TO ME having to be checked. L. Cheshire’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence midnight 29 May 2010 and expire midnight 11 June 2010.



Race 4: Book Your Christmas Party At The GCTC Class 6 H’Cap - 1100m
1st – His Boy Elroy 2nd – Danardos 3rd – Royal Saint 4th – Overanxious

MAIN VEIN (G. Colless) was slow to begin.

PASSED IN TWICE (J. Byrne) pulled hard in the middle stages of the event.

Rounding the home turn and in the straight until approaching the 200m OVERANXIOUS (S. Katsidis) was held up when unable to obtain clear running.

OVERANXIOUS when held up shifted out near the 300m in an attempt to improve and bumped TOOTSIE ZYNSKY (C. Munce).

After passing the 200m PASSED IN TWICE (J. Byrne) attempted a narrow run between DANARDOS (B. Pengelly) and ROYAL SAINT (App M. Wood) however, was disappointed for a run when ROYAL SAINT shifted in slightly. PASSED IN TWICE then had to be checked and was held up over the concluding stages and was not fully tested.

SIR MONASHEE (J. Holder) raced 3 wide throughout the event.

Upon returning to scale App M. Wood reported ROYAL SAINT hung out for a major part of the race.

HIS BOY ELROY lost a near hind plate during running.




Race 5: 2010/11 Memberships – Start Renewing Now Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Last Love 2nd – Jive Queen 3rd – Spinning Mira 4th – Baby Rock

FLYING TO CHINA (G. Colless) was slow to begin.

JOYEUX JOY (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
JOYEUX JOY overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.

Approaching and rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight KISSING TYPE (L. Deguara) was held up and unable to improve.

JOYEUX JOY, SABINO CREEK (P. Hammersley) and MARCH ROSE (M. Palmer) all raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless the rider of FLYING TO CHINA regarding the filly’s disappointing performance. G. Colless explained that although after being slow to begin FLYING TO CHINA travelled well in the early and middle stages however, when placed under pressure rounding the home turn failed to respond to his riding. G. Colless added that in his view FLYING TO CHINA was disappointing. A veterinary examination of FLYING TO CHINA revealed the filly to be lame in both fore legs. Trainer A. Bailey will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before FLYING TO CHINA again races.


Race 6: Spring Racing Packages Available Book Now Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H’Cap - 1400m
1st – Rioqualo 2nd – Golden Cash 3rd – Sydney Or The Bush 4th – Black Toni

App C. McIver was fined the sum of $100.00 under LR58(1) for failing to produce a letter of permission from his master Liam Birchley.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when G. Colless the rider of the second placegetter SYDNEY OR THE BUSH exercised his right to view the official footage of the start to ascertain if he had grounds for protest against the winner RIOQUALO (D. Green). After viewing the footage G. Colless did not proceed and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.

SYDNEY OR THE BUSH had to be checked on jumping away between COUNTY RAIDER (J. Byrne), which jumped outwards and RIOQUALO, which jumped inwards.

Shortly after the start BLACK TONI (App C. McIver) was tightened for room by TAORMINA (C. Munce), which shifted in and away from COUNTY RAIDER.

Near the 1300m RIOQUALO had to be eased to avoid the heels of DOWN ANOTHER TRACK (D. Griffin) when that horse shifted in when not sufficiently clear. D. Griffin was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

Near the 1000m when the pace steadied DOWN ANOTHER TRACK had to be checked to avoid the heels of GOLDEN CASH (B. El-Issa). DOWN ANOTHER TRACK then shifted out resulting in RIOQUALO, which was following clipping DOWN ANOTHER TRACK’S heels and blundering. Following this DOWN ANOTHER TRACK shifted out resulting in TAORMINA and COUNTY RAIDER being hampered and taken wider on the track.

Jockey B. El-Issa was issued with a reprimand for allowing GOLDEN CASH to shift out a considerable amount when being ridden with the whip over the final 200m.

A post race veterinary examination of RIOQUALO found the gelding to have been galloped on, sustaining a laceration to the off hind fetlock.

A post race veterinary examination of SYDNEY OR THE BUSH revealed the gelding to have been galloped on, sustaining a laceration to the near fore cannon.

The track was downgraded to a “Dead 5” after the running of this event.

Race 7: Skyline Gold Premium Dining Open H’Cap - 1800m
1st – Rebounded 2nd – Nortepoppy 3rd – Crowning Force 4th – Red Amigo

ABLE SEAMAN (C. Gilby) jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

TARRAYOUKYAN (App L. Rolls) and LUVULEO (C. Small) came together at the start.

COSTA MUCHO (S. Katsidis) was slow to begin.

Making the crossing near the 1600m LUVULEO shifted in making heavy contact with TARRAYOUKYAN.

ROY’S LEGACY (App M. Speers) raced wide throughout before weakening badly in the straight. A post race veterinary examination of ROY’S LEGACY revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer B. Herne will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to ROY’S LEGACY again racing.

ABLE SEAMAN raced 3 wide over the final 1200m.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of SHOWCITI jockey J. Byrne stated that the horse failed to travel well in the early and middle stages and after trailing up ABLE SEAMAN from the 800m the horse failed to respond to his riding when asked for an effort over the latter stages of the race. Trainer M. Thexton could offer no explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance and undertook to have pathology tests carried out on the horse. A post race veterinary examination of SHOWCITI, which had to be returned to the race course, revealed no significant abnormalities.

Trainer M. Thexton was fined the sum of $200.00 for failing to ensure that SHOWCITI remained on course for the ½ hour following the running of this race.


Race 8: Functions 7 Days A Week Class 4 H’Cap - 1800m
1st – Royal Reign 2nd – Lucky Songs 3rd – Beautiful Day 4th – White Phosphorus

Connections of ASYOUCANDO indicated that App M. Wood would be instructed to ride the horse back in the field today from the wide barrier. ASYOUCANDO was ridden accordingly.

MY FLIGHT (A. Pattillo) was slow to begin.

From the 1400m ROYAL REIGN (C. Munce) shifted wider and moved forward and remained wide for the remainder of the race.

TRISTABRAVE (S. Seamer), BEAUTIFUL DAY (R. Wiggins) and LUCKY SONGS (M. Palmer) all raced wide throughout.

BEAUTIFUL DAY was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

When asked to explain the performance of UTOPIA jockey S. Katsidis explained that it was his intention to lead however, as THE SNICSTER (B. El-Issa) applied pressure in the early stages he elected to take a trail. S. Katsidis added that in his view UTOPIA would be better suited when leading in its races and added that in the home straight UTOPIA seemed to resent racing in restricted room between THE SNICSTER and LIBERTARIAN (J. Byrne).
