Race 1: 2010/11 Memberships Start Renewing Now 3yo Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Livada 2nd – Razor Gang 3rd – Vain Elsa 4th – Canadian Hussey

SIRBILL (K Sawyers) was re-saddled behind the barriers prior to the start.

SIRBILL jumped away awkwardly and made contact with MAGIC TURBO.

RAZOR GANG (App. B Wallace) raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned JP Stanley the rider of FLAHOOLEY which when approaching the 400m commenced to race greenly and became awkward to the inside of VAIN ELSA (B Hull) and lost ground. FLAHOOLEY continued to race greenly for the remainder of the event. Jockey Stanley stated that in his opinion the horse would be better suited to racing in blinkers and over more ground.

S Jones, Trainer of LIVADA was questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of the filly today as compared to the horse’s most recent start at the Gold Coast on 3 July 2010. Mr Jones stated that in his opinion the filly did not handle the heavy track conditions at that start and it is his intention not to start LIVADA on rain affected tracks in the future. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 2: Melbourne Cup Nov 2 Book Now Class 3 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Lucky Toss 2nd – Shaos 3rd – Will Impress 4th – Balboa Star

BALBOA STAR (C Eaton) over-raced from the 1600m until leaving the 1300m.

SHAOS (App. E Kehoe) raced 3 wide throughout the event.

BALBOA STAR was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

Stewards questioned C Eaton rider of BALBOA STAR as to the reasons why she did not lead in today’s event as the horse had led at its most recent start and had drawn barrier 1 today. Ms Eaton stated that as BALBOA STAR had begun only fairly and has had a tendency to over-race in the past, she did not wish to pressure the horse during the early stages and was content to allow SAFFIR SIMPSON (B Hull) to cross her near the 1600m. However, BALBOA STAR commenced to over-race shortly after this. Her explanation was noted.

Stewards questioned JP Stanley rider of INDESEADO and Trainer M Sims regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, particularly being positioned in the lead today when the horse has previously shown a pattern to race back in the field. Jockey Stanley stated that it had not been his intention to lead as he had been instructed to be positive on the horse and take up a mid-field position if possible. However, when it became apparent near the 600m that he would be caught wide and was unable to secure a position mid-field, he elected to allow INDESEADO to stride forward to a position outside the leader near the 1400m and assume the lead approaching the 1100m. Trainer M Sims confirmed the instructions and Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 3: Gold Coast City Cup 28 August Fillies and Mares Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Al Faher 2nd – Roses Rose 3rd – Second Attempt 4th – Geneva Gold

PRINCESS SINGA (L Cheshire) and RUNNING FOR ROSES (N Thomas) were slow to begin.

Near the 1000m when the pace slackened, GENEVA GOLD (N Seymour) over-raced for a short distance and shifted out inconveniencing SECOND ATTEMPT (K Pope).

ROSES ROSE (M Dolendo) and RUNNING FOR ROSES raced wide throughout the event.

Near the 900m MAD JESS (App. A Kitson) had to be steadied when tightened for room between PRINCESS SINGA (L Cheshire) and RUNNING FOR ROSES which shifted in.

POETIC MISTRESS (C Whiteley) hung out from the 700m until near the 500m when it shifted out causing ZUZAO (D Tanti) to be checked when tightened for room between that horse and PRINCESS SINGA to the outside. Trainer T Gillespie was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination of POETIC MISTRESS revealed that the filly is showing signs of being in season.

It was reported that PRINCESS SINGA lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 4: Tradies Raceday Sat 31 July Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Supertrooper 2nd – Skilful Rain 3rd – Bold Dancer 4th – Idocrase

MORRISON (App. T Chambers) lunged forward prior to the start being effected making heavy contact with the barriers resulting in the horse being considerably slow to begin. Correct weight was delayed whilst App. T Chambers viewed the patrol film to ascertain if she wished to make a request for MORRISON to be declared a non-runner. After viewing the patrol film Ms Chambers was satisfied and correct weight was semaphored.

BOLD DANCER (K Forrester) which was over-racing was forced to steady near the 900m to avoid the heels of IDOCRASE (App. B Looker) which had been forced to steady from the heels of WHATYA RECKON (A Nicholls) when the pace slackened at that point.

Leaving the 900m IDOCRASE and DOONBAH GREY (App. B Wallace) were both forced wider on the track when SUPERTROOPER (L Deguara) which had a tendency to over-race shifted out to avoid the heels of FAST TRACKER (C Small). IDOCRASE and DOONBAH GREY then raced wide from that point onwards.

SWEETROCKING (M Dolendo) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Near the 400m the tiring BREATHLESS DANCER (L Cheshire) was tightened for room and had to steadied to the inside of SKILFUL RAIN (A Merritt) which shifted in and away from BOLD DANCER (K Forrester).

Near the 300m MORRISON was disappointed for a run and had to be checked between BOLD DANCER and WHATYA RECKON which shifted in.

Stewards questioned App. T Chambers and stable representative Kay Loy regarding the tactics adopted on MORRISON from the 500m onwards, particularly why she elected to shift to the inside when leaving the 500m which resulted in her being disappointed for a run on 2 occasions in the home straight rather than trail SWEETROCKING (M Dolendo) which would have afforded her clear running to the outside of that horse from that point onwards. Ms Chambers stated that she was of the opinion that shifting wider on the track would not have been beneficial for the horse considering the amount of ground which had been lost at the start. Stewards advised Ms Chambers that whilst with hindsight shifting to the outside may have been the better option, Stewards were of the opinion that her action to shift to the inside was not unreasonable in the circumstances and noted her explanation.

Post-race veterinary examinations of BREATHLESS DANCER and FAST TRACKER (C Small) both of which tailed off failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

Race 5: Surfers Paradise Rotary Club Mockridge Memorial QTIS 600 2yo Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Funky Lady 2nd – Mackenzie 3rd – Federer Express 4th – Hennessy’s Magic

I’LLBETRICKED (A Erhart), HENNESSY’S MAGIC (JP Stanley) and TINGLES MY TOES (D Tanti) jumped away awkwardly losing ground.

TINGLES MY TOES raced ungenerously during the early stages of the event and after leaving the 1000m hung out causing RUNNING ON FAITH (N Seymour) to clip heels and blunder after being tightened for room between that horse and STRAIGHTUP HUSTLER (L Finlay). TINGLES MY TOES then continued to race ungenerously for the remainder of the event. Trainer B Guy’s representative was advised that the horse would have to barrier trial prior to its next race start. A post–race veterinary examination of TINGLES MY TOES failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

STRAIGHTUP HUSTLER and I’LLBETRICKED raced wide for the majority of the event.

Approaching the 300m HENNESSY’S MAGIC (JP Stanley) was held up for clear running for a short distance. Jockey Stanley was then obliged to stop riding over the concluding stages when disappointed for a run to the inside of MACKENZIE (D Griffin) which shifted in.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of BORODULINA, App. B Looker stated that the horse travelled well until the 700m however when the pace of the race quickened the horse failed to respond. Trainer L Mayfield-Smith confirmed his disappointment with the performance and was of the opinion that BORODULINA was showing signs of shin soreness in the off fore leg. A post-race veterinary examination of BORODULINA revealed the filly to be shin sore in both fore legs. Trainer L Mayfield-Smith was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness was required before BORODULINA’s next race start.

A post-race veterinary examination of FUNKY LADY (R Wiggins) failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

Race 6: Corporate Golf & Raceday Thursday 5 August Class 5 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Falls Creek 2nd – Falconten 3rd – Power of George 4th – Shady Prospect

Stewards accepted Trainer R Dart’s explanation as to the reason for the late rider notification on CELESTAFY (K Fujii).

THE JOKER (N Seymour) was slow to begin.

SHADY PROSPECT (App. B Looker) raced wide throughout the event.

FALCONTEN (JP Stanley) lay out throughout the event.

FALCONTEN was held up for clear running for a short distance leaving the 400m.

A post-race veterinary examination of RHYMENOREASON (L Finlay) which tailed off failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

Race 7: Race Name & Restaurant Packages Contact Us today Class 1 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Flying Shadow 2nd – Noble Intent 3rd – Show Us A Win 4th – Chenka Star

Connections advised that UNTOLD FORTUNE (C Whiteley) would be ridden from the barrier in a more mid-field to rearward position if possible, due to the wide barrier. Subsequently the horse was ridden as per instructions.

The start was delayed whilst the blinkers on SHOW US A WIN (K Fujii) were adjusted.

ZADKIEL (D Griffin) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start COURTNEY’S WISH (JP Stanley) was tightened for room and had to be steadied between CHENKA STAR (L Cheshire) and FREQUENT FLYER (L Finlay) which shifted in.

Near the 900m SHOW US A WIN and FREQUENT FLYER were both tightened for room and had to be steadied between CHENKA STAR and ABOUT EVE (App. B Looker) which shifted in.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of UNTOLD FORTUNE, Jockey C Whiteley stated that in his opinion with the early tempo that was set in the race the horse would find the line well, however, he felt UNTOLD FORTUNE failed to run on from approaching the home turn after being placed under pressure. He further added that UNTOLD FORTUNE had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the straight and as a result he was forced to change his whip to the right hand, however, the horse did not in his opinion finish the race off well. Jockey Whiteley further stated in his opinion UNTOLD FORTUNE may be looking for more ground. Trainer B Sutton confirmed his disappointment in the performance and was of the opinion UNTOLD FORTUNE was fresh enough for the step back in distance from 1200m to 1100m of today’s event, however, following today’s event it would be his intention to review the horse’s future racing plans and look to start in races over more ground. A post-race veterinary examination of UNTOLD FORTUNE failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

Race 8: Live Music Till 7.30 pm Every Saturday Class 3 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Newsnight 2nd - Measured 3rd – Triskele 4th – English Star

NEWSNIGHT (K Fujii) and HOCK IT (N Seymour) were slow to begin.

Near the 900m GOLD LAND (App. A Kitson) improved on to the heels of TRISKELE (K Pope) and had to be steadied.

Near the 900m ENGLISH STAR (L Cheshire) shifted out to improve forcing COURTROOM DRAMA (M Dolendo) wider on the track. COURTROOM DRAMA raced wide from that point onwards.

Near the 700m TOWER BRIDGE (B Hull), after improving to the inside of ENGLISH STAR, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of NEWSNIGHT (K Fujii) which shifted out slightly.

GOLD LAND was held up for clear running rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.

Stewards questioned Jockey C Whitely and Trainer D Kelly regarding the seemingly poor performance of FLAWLESS CHOICE. Jockey Whiteley stated in his opinion the horse at no stage travelled well and was under pressure from the 700m. Trainer D Kelly confirmed his disappointment and advised that in his opinion FLAWLESS CHOICE may be coming to the end of its preparation and would now be spelled.
