HEAVENS OWN (S. Katsidis) was inclined to overrace in the middle stages of the event.

IN A TANGLE (P. Hammersley) had difficulty obtaining clear running until leaving the 200m.

When questioned regarding the performance of MORE MORE MORE jockey G. Colless stated that the horse travelled fairly in the early and middle stages and although he had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight expected the horse to sprint quicker when clear. He was further of the opinion that the horse would be better suited to races of a longer distance than today’s event.
Race 2: Melbourne Cup Nov 2 Book Now Fillies & Mares Maiden H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Golden Success 2nd – Escudilla 3rd – Femmelefeu 4th – Cool Rapids

MISS EOS (S. Seamer) proved difficult to load.

NATURALBORNKISSER (App J. Wood) and BITTERMAGIC (J. Holder) were both slow to begin.

MARGRETHE (L. Cheshire) began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with COOL RAPIDS (D. Griffin).

L. Finlay the rider of TOOLATETOAPOLOGISE was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 1100m when insufficiently clear of COOL RAPIDS, which resulted in COOL RAPIDS being placed in restricted room and having to be checked by its rider.

Near the 200m BITTERMAGIC had to alter course when improving up onto the heels of the tiring IGLESIA GRACE (J. Taylor).

MISS EOS and PLAYFUL PARIS (P. Hammersley) both raced wide during the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ALONG CAME DOLLY jockey K. Wharton stated that he was concerned with horse’s breathing pattern near the 600m and was of the opinion that the horse may have choked down in the run. Trainer J.M. Fitzgerald confirmed his disappointment with the horse’s performance and advised he will have further veterinary tests carried out on the mare. A post race veterinary examination of ALONG CAME DOLLY found no abnormalities at the time. Stewards will discuss the matter further with Mr Fitzgerald once the veterinary reports become available.

Trainer T. McCarthy reported that MARGRETHE had bled following the event. MARGRETHE will now incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A.


Race 3: Gold Coast City Cup 28 August Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Zabelka 2nd – Baby Rock 3rd – Roses Rose 4th – Allison Jade

TOP PUSS (M. Walker) was tightened on jumping away between OCEAN SUNSET (N. Thomas), which shifted out after beginning awkwardly and TIGER CAT (J. Byrne), which shifted in and away from ROSES ROSE (P. Hammersley).

READILY (App B. Looker) was slow to begin.

BRIDGET’S FILLY (App C. McIver) overraced in the early stages of the event.

BABY ROCK (L. Cheshire) and ROSES ROSE both raced 3 wide for the majority of the event.

Race 4: Live Music Till 7.30pm Every Sat Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Just Elvis 2nd – Morrison 3rd – Golden Hut 4th – Skilful Rain

As App T. Huxham was indisposed due to illness stewards permitted App J. Wood to be substituted as the rider of BOY BARRY.

Leaving the 1100m BOY BARRY was tightened for room and had to be steadied when crowded for room by MORRISON (G. Colless), which was taken in by PATHI HARN (S. Katsidis), which had shifted in and away from JUST ELVIS (M. Cahill). M. Cahill the rider of JUST ELVIS was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Near the 300m SWEETROCKING (App M. Palmer) clipped the heels of SHAGSINE (J. Tayor) and blundered when attempting a narrow run between IDOCRASE (App B. Looker) and SHAGSINE, both of which shifted ground slightly.

IDOCRASE and SHAGSINE both raced 3 wide for the majority of the event.

C. Whiteley the rider of fifth placegetter ROBDON RAMBLE was reminded of his obligations to ride his horse out to the finish of the event.

Race 5: Spring Racing Carnival – Packages Now Released Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Nobody’s Johnny 2nd – Maraetai 3rd – Montalbert 4th – Indeseado

I’D DO ANYTHING (S. Katsidis) and HOT FOSTERS (L. Deguara) made contact on jumping away.

Leaving the 900m SIR MOSSMAN (D. Barron), FORT CARRE (N. Thomas) and BULLCHASE (C. Munce) were all crowded for room when racing to the inside of NOBODY’S JOHNNY (J. Byrne), which shifted in.

Approaching the 200m FORT CARRE was tightened for room when racing between KID TYCOON (D. Griffin) and INDESEADO (M. Walker), both of which shifted ground.

INDESEADO was crowded for room near the finish when racing between NOBODY’S JOHNNY and MONTALBERT (App M. Wood, which had a tendency to shift in.

DUBBY BOY (A. Erhart), KID TYCOON, NOBODY’S JOHNNY and BULLCHASE all raced wide for the majority of the event.

M. Walker the rider of INDESEADO was fined the sum of $100.00 for returning to scale overweight.

Race 6: Magic Millions - Here To Stay Class 2 H’Cap – 900m
1st – Frisco Lights 2nd – Spirit Of Flatley 3rd – Lissoy’s Lass 4th – D/Heat Shazoom & Impactor

Trainer K. Wood was fined the sum of $50.00 for presenting SPIRIT OF FLATYLEY to the enclosure with incorrect gear.
IMAGINED (J. Byrne) and LISSOY’S LASS (App J. Wood) were both slow to begin.

Approaching the 700m FROSTINOSS (D. Green) was tightened for room when racing between SPIRIT OF FLATLEY (B. Pengelly), which had a tendency to shift out and ALLOWAY KING (M. Cahill), which shifted in.

SHAZOOM (App M. Palmer) was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

Near the 200m SHAZOOM was tightened for room by FRISCO LIGHTS (D. Griffin), which shifted in under pressure.

Near the 150m MONCHING (G. Colless), which had a tendency to lay in, had to be eased away from the heels of LISSOY’S LASS.

MONCHING raced wide for the majority of the event.


Race 7: Christmas Packages Now Released! Class 4 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Matter Of Priority 2nd – Royal Reign 3rd – Joyeux Joy 4th – Star Of Amy

JOE EVA was declared a late scratching at 1.16 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice. Trainer O. Glue will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before JOE EVA again races.

HOPESON (App J. Wood) was slow to begin.

JOYEUX JOY (B. Pengelly) and CAPE CHIVAS (J. Byrne) both overraced in the middle stages of the event.

Approaching the 300m ALTISSIMO (S. Katsidis) was disappointed for a run to the inside of LATCHFORD STAR (M. Cahill) where doubtful room existed. ALTISSIMO was then held up for clear running for the remainder of the straight.

LATCHFORD STAR had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 250m of the event.

ROYAL REIGN (C. Munce) and DISPURSER (App M. Palmer) both raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned M. Walker and trainer H. Page regarding the tactics adopted on POWERFUL SPHERE in today’s event compared to previous tactics adopted on the horse. Ms Page stated that from the wide barrier the intention was to go forward on the horse in an endeavour to obtain a midfield position. Jockey M. Walker stated that the horse began better than expected and rather than being caught wide he elected to go forward with the intention of taking a sit after obtaining the lead however, this did not eventuate and POWERFUL SPHERE was left in the lead position for the majority of the race. Stewards accepted the explanations given.
