SUPPLEMENTARY:
From Gold Coast Turf Club Meeting 10 April 2010 – Race 2
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reason for jockey D. Tanti becoming dislodged from ZAHGINTY after passing the 900m. After taking evidence from D. Tanti and L. Cheshire the rider of ISA LEI, it was established that at that point ISA LEI hung out despite the efforts of L. Cheshire, which resulted in ZAHGINTY clipping the heels of ISA LEI dislodging D. Tanti. As a result of jockey D. Tanti being dislodged TY SEEKER and PRECIOUS GIRL, which were following, both had to be checked and SKEYANA had to be severely checked and that runner was eased down by jockey D. Barron from that point. As stewards were of the view that the racing manners of ISA LEI were the cause of this incident trainer M. Sims was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly and should she perform similarly in the future further action would be taken.
Race 1: Terminator Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Country Classic 2nd – Dance Request 3rd – Royal Page Boy 4th – Whiskey At Sea
COUNTRY CLASSIC (B. Hull) raced 3 wide throughout the event.
Rider B. Hull was issued with a reprimand under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip in a forehand manner on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.
App B. Looker was questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on ROYAL PAGE BOY, in particular the reason for him restraining that gelding approaching the 600m and allowing TAKE COVER to cross to the lead. App B. Looker explained that he had specific instructions to ride forward on ROYAL PAGE BOY and if someone challenged him in the lead to take a sit with cover. App B. Looker added that ROYAL PAGE BOY had overraced at its most recent start and when he attempted to allow TAKE COVER to improve to the lead ROYAL PAGE BOY once again commenced to overrace, which placed him in an awkward position at the heels of TAKE COVER, which was also shifting ground and weakening. Trainer H. Page explained that she instructed App Looker to lead on ROYAL PAGE BOY but if he was challenged in the middle stages to restrain the gelding and obtain cover. Their explanations were noted.
Trainer J. Anderson was questioned regarding the improved performance of COUNTRY CLASSIC today. Mr Anderson explained that COUNTRY CLASSIC has been racing poorly recently and could only put the improved performance down to today’s heavy track conditions, as the gelding has trialled well in these conditions in the past.
A post race veterinary examination of TAKE COVER, which weakened badly in the home straight revealed no abnormalities.
A post race veterinary examination of JETSCAPE (D. Griffin) revealed the gelding to be sore in the near fore leg. Trainer M. Palmer was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to JETSCAPE again racing.
Race 2: Gainsborough Hardware Fillies & Mares Maiden H’Cap – 1400m

AMBERS GOLD was declared a late scratching at 9.47 a.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice.

CHAPTER (App B. Wallace) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out taking MYSTICAL SANDS (App M. Wood) out onto MY GALWAY GIRL (D. Griffin), which was hampered.
SHADOW STAR (App B. Looker) jumped away awkwardly.
Stewards sought an explanation from App B. Looker regarding the riding tactics he adopted on SHADOW STAR. App Looker explained that he was instructed to ride the mare where comfortable and attempted to obtain cover as SHADOW STAR has a tendency to overrace. App Looker added that after beginning only fairly he restrained SHADOW STAR in an endeavour to obtain cover and settled to the rear of the field. Trainer D. Schmidt confirmed these instructions however, added that in his opinion the mare settled further back than he had anticipated and he was satisfied that SHADOW STAR had travelled comfortably and worked to the line well in the home straight. Their explanations were noted.
J. Byrne was asked to explain the riding tactics adopted on CHLOE’S DREAM in the early stages where the filly improved around the field to the lead near the 1100m. J. Byrne explained he had no specific instructions and added that due to the lack of speed in today’s race when racing wide he elected to ride forward. Trainer A. Willick explained that in CHLOE’S DREAM’S most recent starts she has instructed the rider to settle in a forward position however, the filly has been unable to muster sufficient speed to do this. Ms Willick added that CHLOE’S DREAM has led in the past when J. Byrne was the rider and if circumstances permit it would be her preference to employ these tactics at future starts. The explanations of both parties were noted.
Race 3: Hyne Open H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Jad 2nd – Shoalhaven Rock 3rd – Samui Star 4th – Fasliyev Dancer
G. Colless the rider of FASLIYEV DANCER explained that the mare never travelled well throughout and had a tendency to hang out with its head in the air throughout the event. A post race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4: Hume Doors & Timber QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Jamandtoast 2nd – A Happy Day 3rd – Miriam Louisa 4th – Mount Kosciuszko
JAMANDTOAST (G. Colless) and SHEEZA BELIEVA (L. Cheshire) bumped shortly after the start resulting in SHEEZA BELIEVA shifting out hampering A HAPPY DAY (S. Katsidis).
Near the 700m MIRIAM LOUISA (J. Bowditch) had to be eased when tightened for room between GREYZEEL (App M. Hellyer) and WESTERN SHADOW (L. Finlay), which shifted out slightly.
Approaching the 300m GLOGLAZE (D. Griffin) shifted out under pressure resulting in MIRIAM LOUISA, which was following, having to alter course to improve.
HIDDEN DECISION (N. Thomas) was held up and unable to improve in the home straight from after passing the 200m until near the 100m, where after improving to the outside of GLOGAZE was bumped heavily by that runner when GLOGAZE shifted out abruptly when weakening.
WESTERN SHADOW, GREYZEEL and JAMANDTOAST all raced wide throughout the event.
A post race veterinary examination of GLOGAZE revealed the filly had sustained a laceration to the off fore leg.
A post race veterinary examination of GALAGH COLOURS (P. Hammersley) revealed the gelding had suffered an injury to its near fore tendon. Trainer K. Fleming was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before the gelding again races.

M. Heagney the rider of ANGLESEA, which performed below expectations, explained that the gelding was under pressure from the 1000m and did not quicken as he had expected.
