SUPPLEMENTARY:
As Jockey K Pope was indisposed through illness, Stewards permitted the following rider replacements:
Race 3 – Midnight Max – App. J Piper.
Race 6 – I’ll Rule – K Forrester
Jockey R Tunnell was fined the sum of $400 for using her whip in a forehand manner 10 times prior to the 100m in Race 3 on TOKARDI and again in Race 4 on FLYING TOUCHDOWN.
Race 1: Cobblepatch Landscaping Supplies Jimboomba QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Amber’s Crown 2nd – Publican 3rd – Min Min Man 4th – Ban The Recorder
Stewards advised Trainer L Birchley’s representative that a fine of $200 was imposed for the failure to scratch ALL SIGNIFICANT (C Whiteley) by the prescribed time.
PUBLICAN (App. B Looker) laid in under pressure in the home straight causing its rider to stop riding and straighten near the 100m.
App. B Looker rider of PUBLICAN reported that the horse raced greenly throughout the event and hung out rounding the home turn.
Stewards questioned Jockey D Griffin rider of MIN MIN MAN regarding its performance. Jockey Griffin stated that in the running he would have liked to obtain an easier lead in the middle stages, however was challenged for the lead when PUBLICAN improved to his outside. He stated that he placed MIN MIN MAN under pressure at the top of the straight but the horse failed to run on as expected. Trainer B Guy stated that he and the connections had expected a forward showing today and he was disappointed in the performance. He further stated that it had been the stable’s intention to start MIN MIN MAN on Thursday at a race in Rockhampton, however due to transport difficulties he elected to accept for today’s event. Stewards noted the comments.
Race 2: Newstart Homes Maiden H’cap – 1800m
1st – Always Loyal 2nd – Zedacharge 3rd – Easy Paris 4th – Cape Spirit
The start of this race was delayed to hold for another venue.
MESOPOTAMIA (App. B Looker) and LITTLE ROSIE (App. P Schmidt) were slow to begin.
EASY PARIS (S Galloway) was tightened for room at the start and lost ground between ZEDACHARGE (G Lynch) and TUSHUK (App. J Kropp) which shifted out.
BLUE MEDICINE (App. J Piper) over-raced during the early stages of the event.
G Lynch rider of ZEDACHARGE which was wide during the early stages of the event, elected to allow his mount to stride forward to assume the lead at a point near the 1100m.
CAPE SPIRIT (D Tanti) over-raced with its head in the air for a short distance during the middle stages of the event.
BLUE MEDICINE which had a tendency to lay in, raced wide from the 900m onwards.
Race 3: Bank of Queensland Jimboomba & Ashmore Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Gambino 2nd – Spirit of Umtali 3rd – Untouchable Doll 4th – Isabel Street
Stewards intend to interview Trainer R Lipp at a later date to ascertain the reason for the late rider notification of Jockey N Evans on FLOODMARK.
Connections advised that due to the bad alley, GAMBINO (App. P Schmidt) would be ridden back in the field if possible. App Schmidt the rider of GAMBINO reported that as the horse began well and showed early speed she was unable to ride the horse back in the field as per her instructions and allowed the horse to stride forward to lead. When questioned,Trainer B Rodgers advised stewards that it would now be the stable’s intention to have the horse ridden in a forward manner in future starts.
AMBERS GOLD (G Lynch) blundered on jumping away.
THOR REAL (M Paget) jumped away awkwardly with its head in the air and made contact with the barrier partition.
FLOODMARK (N Evans) jumped away awkwardly making heavy contact with SPIRIT OF UMTALI (D Barron).
STYLISH BOUNTY (App. B Looker) and HILL AND GRACE (S Galloway) were both tightened for room at the start between SHOOT HIGHER (C Whiteley) which became awkward in this incident and TOKARDI (R Tunnell) which shifted out at the start. Jockey Tunnell was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
TOKARDI and SPIRIT OF UMTALI raced wide throughout the event.
Near the 500m FLOODMARK when racing between ISABEL STREET (D Griffin) and MISHANI ARCHER (JP Stanley) shifted in and away from MISHANI ARCHER and lost ground quickly. PRETTY TESS (L Cheshire) and STYLISH BOUNTY which were following were also forced to check as a result. Trainer R Lipp will be advised that a warning will be placed on FLOODMARK’s racing manners.
AMBERS GOLD was momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Stewards questioned Jockey C Whiteley regarding the performance of SHOOT HIGHER which performed below market expectations. Jockey Whiteley stated that after travelling in a good position early SHOOT HIGHER was under pressure from the 500m and did not finish the race off well. He stated that in his opinion the horse, which was ridden forward today, may be better suited to being allowed to settle further back in the field. Trainer J Wallace agreed with Jockey Whiteley’s assessment and gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to light in coming days. A post –race veterinary examination of SHOOT HIGHER revealed no abnormalities at the time of examination.
A post-race veterinary examination of THOR REAL revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer G Cornish was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness before the gelding races again.
Race 4: Samsung Customer Service Plaza Class 2 H’cap – 2200m
1st – Branch Stacker 2nd – Run For Layla 3rd – Heza Guru 4th – Fire Lizard
NIGHT SHADOW (D Tanti) blundered on jumping away.
NASSAVETTE (N Thomas) was slow to begin.
Near the 1600m TYRCONNELL (S Galloway) was tightened for room between BRANCH STACKER (K Forrester) and FLYING TOUCHDOWN (R Tunnell) which shifted in. Jockey Tunnel was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
FLYING TOUCHDOWN (R Tunnell) raced wide throughout the event.
When questioned regarding the performance of HARFORD STREET, Jockey L Cheshire stated that in her opinion the horse failed to run out the distance of today’s event.
Stewards questioned App. P Schmidt rider of FIRE DRAGON regarding her tactics during the early and middle stages of the event, particularly after settling in a position behind BRANCH STACKER why she then permitted her mount to lose ground from that point to a point near the 1000m which resulted in her being positioned last and a considerable distance from her original position behind BRANCH STACKER. Ms Schmidt stated that at the horse’s most recent start it had raced keenly on heels in the early stages and she had not wished to fire the horse up during the early stages. Stewards advised Ms Schmidt that in their opinion she had erred in this section of the race however taking into account her relative inexperience took no further action other than to refer her to the Racing Review Panel for further tuition.
Race 5: Gordon Mendes Accounting Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Pengunny Cat 2nd – Princess Lyca 3rd – Red Mohican 4th – Extra Exceleration
SANTO DE LAGO (JP Stanley) which was slow to begin was then tightened and lost ground between BLAZE TO FORTUNE (K Forrester) and RED MOHICAN (G Lynch) which was taken in by HELLUVA HURRY (App. J Piper) which shifted in.
HELLUVA HURRY (App. J Piper) and PENGUNNY CAT (D Griffin) raced wide throughout the event.
Near the 200m A HAPPY DAY (B Hull) improved on to the heels of BUTHER (S Galloway) and had to be steadied.
Stewards questioned Jockey JP Stanley regarding the tactics adopted on SANTO DE LAGO, in particular why he did not shift out rounding the home turn when it appeared an opportunity to do so was open to him. As a result of remaining to the inside he was held up on the heels of the tiring HELLUVA HURRY near the 200m and again disappointed for a run to the inside of SHEOAK AVENUE (L Cheshire) which shifted in near the 100m. Jockey Stanley stated that he had been instructed to ride back in the field and then to ride for luck when rounding the home turn. He felt that in hindsight, shifting wider on the track would have afforded him clear running and may have been a better option. Stewards agreed that with hindsight, shifting to the outside may have been a better option however, advised Jockey Stanley that in the circumstances his actions were not unreasonable and no action would be taken.
Race 6: Pump Service Industries Class 3 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Shazoom 2nd – I Need to Fly 3rd – Legal Diva 4th – Go Gerry
Connections of LAUREN’S HALO (B Hull) advised that it was their intention to have the gelding ridden forward in the field if circumstances permit. LAUREN’S HALO was however unable to muster early speed and was ridden in a rearward position.
LAUREN’S HALO was slow to begin.
Near the 1100m I’LL RULE (K Forrester) had to be steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of I NEED TO FLY (D Griffin) which when over-racing shifted in. Jockey Griffin was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
Near the 1000m SHAZOOM (D Tanti) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HASHASAN (JP Stanley) which shifted in. Jockey Stanley was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Leaving the 700m GO GERRY (App. J Piper) had to be steadied off the heels of SHAZOOM. As a result I NEED TO FLY which was following was checked and shifted out making contact with I’LL RULE.
TIE HAND (M Paget), I’LL RULE and LAUREN’S HALO raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 300m MELD (App. B Looker) had to be steadied when tightened to the inside of RED ROCKER (N Thomas) which shifted in under pressure. Jockey Thomas was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
Stewards questioned Jockey JP Stanley regarding the tactics adopted on HASHASAN, particularly his reason for allowing the horse to go to the lead at a point near the 1000m, which is in contrast to the horse’s normal racing pattern. Jockey Stanley stated that it had not been his intention to lead on the horse. He had intended positioning HASHASAN mid-field if possible, however at a point near the 1200m it became apparent he was going to be caught 3 wide without cover and he elected to push the gelding forward in order to obtain a better run in the race. Trainer L Kelly confirmed the instructions and advised stewards that he was surprised to see the gelding was leading during the middle stages of the event. Stewards accepted the explanation that Jockey Stanley had put forward. A post-race veterinary examination of HASHASAN (JP Stanley) revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer L Kelly was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness before the gelding races again.
Race 7: McLauchlan & Partners Class 6 Plate – 1800m
1st – Bann Ruby 2nd – Nortepoppy 3rd – Cross Town Traffic 4th – Bella Sea
WILDWIND SPIRIT (C Small) and BANN RUBY (App. J Piper) were slow to begin.
Leaving the 1500m I’VE GOT TALENT (App. B Looker) shifted in and made heavy contact with BELLA SEA (K Forrester) causing both horses to become unbalanced.
Near the 1400m CROSS TOWN TRAFFIC (N Evans) had to be steadied from the heels of ROCKY GROUND (D Tanti).
I’VE GOT TALENT and TELESTAH LA VISTAH (M Radecker) raced wide throughout the event.
DEFEND THE HILL (App. E Kehoe) when ridden forward to obtain the lead raced wide until a point near the 1200m.
App. J Piper the rider of BANN RUBY was charged with careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 600m she shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with CROSS TOWN TRAFFIC (N Evans) forcing that horse out resulting in I’VE GOT TALENT (App. B Looker) being tightened for room on to the hindquarters of TELESTAH LA VISTAH (M Radecker) and having to be checked. After pleading not guilty and defending the charge stewards were of the opinion they could not sustain the charge in that there was sufficient doubt as to whether a run had presented itself to the inside of before shifting out.
BANN RUBY was held up for clear running for a short distance rounding the home turn.
A post-race veterinary examination of I’VE GOT TALENT (App. B Looker) and ELEVENTH COMMAND (L Cheshire) both of which commenced to lose ground quickly from the 600m and tailed off, revealed no abnormalities at the time of examination.
A post-race veterinary examination of CHANNEL CROSSING (M Paget) which broke down after the winning post revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer G Blades was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be obtained before CHANNEL CROSSING races again.
