Race 1: Coastal Power Boats 2yo Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Black Jag 2nd – Outback Fortune 3rd – Square Up 4th – Shoot Fer Love

DEHERE I AM (C Small) was a late scratching at 12.43 pm after the horse was injured when being re-shod behind the race day barrier stalls. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on DEHERE I AM were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 8 cents in the dollar for a win and 10 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket. Trainer J Wilcock was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness must be produced before DEHERE I AM again races.

BLACK JAG (JP Stanley) began awkwardly.

SHOOT FER LOVE (App. B Wallace) shifted out at the start taking SQUARE UP (D Green) wider on the track.

BLACK JAG had a tendency to over-race in the early and middle stages of the event.

SQUARE UP raced 3 wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of JADE ANGEL, Jockey D Tanti said the horse had worked well during the week however, was under pressure 400m from the finish of today’s event and he could offer no tangible explanation for JADE ANGEL’s performance.

Race 2: Gamma Wealth Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Days Gone By 2nd – Skilful Rain 3rd – Shinko’s Revenge 4th – Eldoshar

TISANI LAD (D Tanti) and SHINKO’S REVENGE (D Griffin) were tightened on jumping away between CHOISI L’UN (K Fuji) and RIVER DANCING (D Green) which shifted in.

Near the 1000m TISANI LAD shifted in and away from RIVER DANCING which resulted in TISANI LAD being awkwardly placed on the heels of CLEATS (D Barron) which had a tendency to race ungenerously at that point.

Leaving the 800m LITTLE SQUIRREL (K Banks) improved up on to the heels of REALI RO ( C Small) which was commencing to yield ground and as a result LITTLE SQUIRREL shifted out taking DAYS GONE BY (App. B Wallace) wider on the track.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ALL FEAR, Jockey C Whiteley was at a loss to explain the performance and said the gelding travelled well in the middle stges but was under pressure from the 400m point and failed to finish the race of as expected. Stewards will question Trainer P Balzen regarding the performance and future plans for ALL FEAR at a later date. Trainer later reported to Stewards that the horse had a very good blow post-race, and in hindsight with the recent poor weather the horse may have got away from him somewhat with lack of suitable conditions to get a proper workout with the 5 weeks between runs. He is hoping the horse will get a run at Eagle Farm on Wednesday week in the 1300m maiden and believes it will be competitive.

J Perry Trainer of REALI RO (C Small) which was uncompetitive in the event was advised not to start the gelding again at TAB meetings until satisfied that the horse would perform to the desired standard.

It was reported that LITTLE SQUIRREL lost its off fore shoe in running.

Race 3: Hanrick Curran Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Mossing 2nd – Snipofftheoldblock 3rd – Dandahra Falls 4th – Radio

OROTELLA DA VINCI (D Sparks) was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arrival at the course and again at the barriers after the Trainer stated that the horse travelled poorly to the track. After examination the OROTELLA DA VINCI was passed fit to start.

AVOCA BELLE (B Abbey) began awkwardly.

WHITBY LASS (N Thomas) was slow to begin.

DANDAHRA FALLS (D Tanti) shifted out at the start making contact with SNIPOFFTHEOLDBLOCK (App. B Wallace) forcing that horse out on to OROTELLA DA VINCI which in turn shifted out making contact with AVOCA BELLE resulting in AVOCA BELLE becoming unbalanced.

The saddle on AVOCA BELLE shifted forward approaching the 1000m and leaving the 800m AVOCA BELLE shifted out taking WHITBY LASS and SNIPOFFTHEOLDBLOCK wider on the track. AVOCA BELLE was uncompetitive from that point onwards with Jockey W Abbey being placed at a severe disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

JOYEST LIGHTNING (App. P Schmidt), MINYA MAI (D Barron) and SNIPOFFTHEOLDBLOCK and WHITBY LASS raced wide for the majority of the event.

A veterinary examination of IS IT ANY WONDER (K Fujii) which tired badly over the final 500m found no abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer J Morrissey was advised that the filly must perform satisfactorily in the country circuit before returning to racing at Provincial meetings.

Stewards questioned Jockey D Griffin and Trainer’s representative T Edmonds, regarding the tactics and improved performance of MOSSING in today’s event. Mr Edmonds stated that the horse was having its third run back this campaign and had raced on a heavy track at its first run back, and at its most recent start on 24 December 2010 reared at the start resulting in the horse losing valuable ground. He further advised that he gave no specific instructions to Jockey D Griffin. Jockey Griffin confirmed that he was given no instructions and thought that the horse would settle in a forward position, however, when MOSSING began well he was able to obtain the lead where he dictated the tempo of the race. Stewards noted the explanations.

Race 4: Gamma Wealth Class 3 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Scarlett Jo 2nd – With Elegance 3rd – Utopia 4th – Pressed On

SILVER WHISPER (A Erhart) was a late scratching at 2.46 pm after Jockey A Erhart was dislodged from the mare at the barriers sustaining an injury to his right hand. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on SILVER WHISPER were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 2 cents in the dollar for a win and 3 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket.

MINASHEE (E Kehoe) jumped away awkwardly.

SCARLETT JO (C Whiteley) was slow to begin resulting in the horse losing valuable ground.

Approaching the first turn at the 1600m, BLAZE TO FORTUNE (D Griffin) had to be steadied off the heels of LET’S BE MARY (App. C Priest) which shifted in.

LET’S BE MARY tired badly over the final 500m. Trainer I Duke was advised that LET’S BE MARY must either trial to the satisfaction of Stewards or perform satisfactorily at a country race meeting before the horse again races at a provincial status meeting.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on BAIL ME OUT today as compared to tactics adopted on the gelding previously, Jockey C Small explained that the horse has been settling at the rear of the field after beginning awkwardly at its most recent starts, however, today he was able to occupy a more forward position after the horse began well. He further stated that when the tempo of the race eased approaching the 1200m he elected to make a forward move as BAIL ME OUT has shown a tendency not to be able to sprint when the tempo of previous races had increased over the final 600m. Stewards noted his explanation.

It was reported that MINASHEE shifted its off fore shoe in running.

Race 5: McCabe Weston QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Hangar Seven 2nd – Amber Ale 3rd – Magooey 4th – Fault Lion

After taking some evidence from Trainer A Ryan Stewards adjourned the inquiry into the reason for the late rider notification on FAULT LION.

AMBER ALE (App. M Palmer) was tightened on jumping away between GLOW ROAD (D Tanti) which shifted out after beginning awkwardly and FELON (D Barron) which was taken in by LADY BODICEA (App. J wood).

Approaching the 600m HANGAR SEVEN (App. P Schmidt) and TOUGH TAIMZ (K Banks) were both tightened for room and had to be checked when racing to the inside of FELON which shifted in and away from ASTRALON (K Pope).

MORNING RAIN (D Griffin) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Leaving the 400m AMBER ALE shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped DEFY ALL ODDS (JP Stanley).

Race 6: Gamma Wealth Class 1 H’cap – 900m
1st – Trickin 2nd – One Moment Please 3rd – Rev The Chev 4th – Fantastic Bella

The start of this race was delayed after MAUVE LADY (App. S Bogenhuber) broke through the barriers and travelled for a short distance. After examination by the veterinary surgeon, MAUVE LADY was passed fit to start.

REV THE CHEV (App. P Schmidt) was slow to begin.

ANGEL WITHIN (D Tanti) and REV THE CHEV raced wide for the majority of the event.

Near the 800m FANTASTIC BELLA (K Banks) was severely checked when racing between FRAHA (E Kehoe) and BODERY VAREMO (B Powell) which hung in despite the efforts of its rider. A warning was placed on BODERY VAREMO regarding the racing characteristics of the gelding.

MAUVE LADY had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the straight.

Race 7: AXA Class 2 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Craquelure 2nd – Pixiu 3rd – Seek and Find 4th – Tie Hand

Subject to any further submission, a fine of $200 will be imposed on Trainer L Birchley for the late scratching of PLAZSNI (C Whiteley) at 8.12 am.

CRAQUELURE (App. B Wallace) was slow to begin.

PERSONAL GUARANTEE (App. J Wood) and ACTION REPLAY (App. B Looker) made contact on jumping away.

QUEEN OF DANES (M Hughes) raced wide for the majority of the event.

PIXIU (D Griffin) and CRAQUELURE came together and brushed 50m from the finish of the event.

A post-race veterinary examination of QUEEN OF DANES (M Hughes) revealed the mare to have sustained a laceration on the near hind leg.

A post-race veterinary examination of ACTION REPLY revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer G Heinrich will be advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness will be required before the gelding again races.

Race 8: Sherry’s 60th Birthday Class 2 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Helluva Hurry 2nd – Sir Roseland 3rd – Alinga Star 4th – Dubai Prospect

Trainer D Kelly was fined the sum of $100 for late rider notification of P Keane on DUBAI PROSPECT.

Trainer J Wallace was fined the sum of $100 for late rider notification of C Whiteley on HELLUVA HURRY.

PRIMARY COLOUR (App. J Wood) was fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

LORD THEODORE (App. B Looker) was tightened on jumping away between TUPPATONIC (App. B Wallace) which was taken out by KALBO (K Fujii) and ALICE COUPEZ (M Radecker) which was taken in by LUCKILY (D Griffin).

ALICE COUPEZ raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event and leaving the 1000m shifted out taking FLEUR DE BAIE (D Barron) wider on the track. FLEUR DE BAIE was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.

ELEGANT RULER (M Hughes) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Leaving the 1000m LORD THEODORE had to be steadied when attempting to take a run where doubtful racing room existed to the inside of TUPPATONIC. Approaching the 600m LORD THEODORE made contact with the running rail when again attempting a run to the inside of TUPPATONIC.

RUN JAKE RUN (S Drake) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until inside the 100m.

Leaving the 200m LUCKILY shifted in and away from KALBO and in doing so made contact with INCH AHEAD (JP Stanley).
