Race 1: Sky Racing Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Dragon Size 2nd – Ballistic 3rd – Zeditave Plus 4th – Alkiori

The start of this race was delayed as a result of all jockeys being late weighing out due to a jockeys’ meeting held prior to the races.

The start of this race was further delayed when BALLISTIC had to be resaddled at the barriers.

The start of this race was again delayed when VAUDEVILLE became fractious in the barriers dislodging its rider App P. Keane. As App Keane sustained an injury in this incident that prevented him from fulfilling his riding engagement stewards ordered the withdrawal of VAUDEVILLE at 12.40 p.m. Stewards also ordered no deductions apply. After questioning trainer Miss K. Doughty regarding the matter stewards took no further action against VAUDEVILLE in view of the lengthy delay caused to the horses in the barriers as a result of BALLISTIC having to be resaddled.

BAGGS IT (App B. Looker) and UNDERTHEBONNET (D. Missen) were both slow to begin.

ZEDITAVE PLUS (App P. Schmidt) and GANDY MAY (D. Peisley) made contact on jumping away.

Near the 900m SMASHING BOTTLES (D. Tanti) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of SOL D’ORA (App T. Harrison), which shifted in and away from HAPPY HOOLIGAN (App B. Evans).

SPRING VIOLET (K. Fujii) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of SMASHING BOTTLES jockey D. Tanti stated that after the gelding was tightened for racing room at the 900m the horse failed to race truly thereafter. D. Tanti further advised the connections that he believes SMASHING BOTTLES may be better suited with the addition of blinkers. Stewards noted his comments. A veterinary examination of SMASHING BOTTLES failed to reveal any abnormalities.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of RATTLE AND ROLL jockey C. Whiteley stated that as he was caught wide he elected to go forward on the horse and as a result ended up leading the race. C. Whiteley further stated that in hindsight this may have been detrimental to the horse’s chances as he was of the view that the mare may be best suited when ridden with a sit. Stewards will speak with trainer D. Sutton regarding the post race recovery of RATTLE AND ROLL and the future program of the mare.

Race 2: Carlton Mid Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H’Cap – 1100m
1st – Ruapehu Boy 2nd – Baton Twirler 3rd – Happy Genes 4th – Leica Roller

RUAPEHU BOY (A. Spinks) and BUTCHER (App B. Looker) made contact on jumping away.

INTOXICATED (App P. Schmidt) began awkwardly.

LEICA ROLLER (K. Forrester) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned jockey C. Whiteley and trainer Mrs H. Page regarding the riding tactics adopted on HAPPY GENES, particularly in the early stages of the event and again rounding the home turn. Mrs Page stated that she had removed the blinkers from the gear of HAPPY GENES today in an endeavour to get the horse to settle and her instructions were to ride the horse back in the field. C. Whiteley confirmed these instructions and advised that after beginning well he eased HAPPY GENES to a trailing position at the rear of the small field. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted rounding the home turn where it appeared there was an opportunity to follow RUAPEHU BOY forward, C. Whiteley stated that the horse has only a short sharp sprint and it was always his intention to follow RUAPEHU BOY. He added that he felt he was in a close enough position to challenge RUAPEHU BOY leaving the 300m however, HAPPY GENES was inclined to lay in under pressure. Mrs Page supported the comments and riding of the gelding. Stewards noted the explanations given.

Race 3: Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’Cap – 1100m
1st – Fusette 2nd – Secret Pleasure 3rd – Unrefuseable 4th – Anabarbie

UNREFUSEABLE (App P. Keane) shifted in at the start making contact with SECRET PLEASURE (D. Griffin).

Shortly after the start TIZZY LIZZY (D. Missen) shifted out and bumped HEAVENS OWN (K. Forrester).

SECRET PLEASURE was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

MISS MINARDI (App P. Schmidt) was inclined to lay in under pressure for the majority of the straight.

MISS MINARDI was caught wide for the majority of the event.

Race 4: Gloria McLeod 90th Birthday QTIS 3YO H’Cap – 1100m
1st – Komodo Blue 2nd – Slice And Dice 3rd – Jypsiere 4th – Madame Sleeper

Race 5: Prime TV Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Stabilizer 2nd – Hide ‘N’ Seek 3rd – Isajoy 4th – Astralon

STABILIZER (K. Fujii) was tightened on jumping away between HOLY HOAKS (D. Sparks) and MAKE YOUR CHOICE (D. Missen) both of which shifted ground.

BYMONASHEE (D. Peisley) and JAMAICAN HAWK (App A. Allen) made heavy contact on jumping away.

Approaching the 800m BYMONASHEE laid in across the heels of POWER TO SURVIVE (D. Griffin).
Approaching the 600m ISAJOY (N. Thomas) was crowded for room when racing between ASTRALON (J.P. Stanley) and HIDE ‘N’ SEEK (C. Whiteley), which shifted in.

Near the 350m RAZOR GANG (D. Barron) was tightened for room when racing between POWER TO SURVIVE and ASTROLON, which shifted out.

Near the 250m SYMBIOTIC (A. Spinks) had to be steadied when that horse laid in across the heels of JAMAICAN HAWK.

RAZOR GANG, POWER TO SURVIVE and JAMAICAN HAWK all raced wide for the majority of the event.

MIRIAM LOUISA (App T. Harrison) cast an off fore plate in running.

A post race veterinary examination of JAMAICAN HAWK revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer P.S. Jones will be advised that JAMAICAN HAWK will require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to its next race start.

Race 6: Glenzeil Construction Class 3 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Power Quest 2nd – Object Of Virtue 3rd – Primary Colour 4th – Famous Fortune

Stewards took no action regarding the late rider notification of FAMOUS FORTUNE from D. Barron to C. Small due to mitigating circumstances.

The connections of ZEALANDIA advised it was the intention to ride the horse in a forward position if circumstances permit.

ZEALANDIA (K. Forrester) and WITH ELEGANCE (D. Sparks) were both slow to begin.

OBJECT OF VIRTUE (J. Watkins) was caught wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

App P. Keane the rider of BLUE EGO pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that near the 1500m point he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SIR ROSELAND (A. Spinks), OBJECT OF VIRTUE and TOY RULER (D. Tanti) resulting in all 3 horses being tightened for racing room. App P. Keane’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period seven (7) meetings to commence midnight 14 March 2011 and expire midnight 25 March 2011.

Near the 1000m TOY RULER shifted out to a one wide line forcing FIERY CINDER (M. Heagney) wider on the track. FIERY CINDER was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.

Rounding the home turn FIERY CINDER had to shift out and away from POWER QUEST (App B. Looker) when that horse shifted out to improve. As a result of this incident SONIC HILL (C. Whiteley) and ZEALANDIA were carried wider on the track.

Rounding the home turn PRIMARY COLOUR (D. Griffin) shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped SIR ROSELAND.

SIR ROSELAND and PRIMARY COLOUR again bumped leaving the 300m.

Race 7: Moreton Hire Class 2 H’Cap – 1300m
1st – Inch Ahead 2nd – Star Stepper 3rd – Miss Burger 4th – Our Hussey

Subject to any further submission from trainer T. Bailey a fine of $100.00 will be imposed for the late notification of rider for STAR STEPPER.

Connections advised it was their intention to ride CHLOE’S DREAM in a more forward position today.

SPACE GATER (D. Missen) was tightened on jumping away between CHLOE’S DREAM (A. Spinks) and MASTER WINNER (J.P. Stanley), both of which shifted ground.

BULIMBA (App P. Schmidt), STAR STEPPER (D. Barron) and PASUGO (App P. Keane) were all slow to begin.

SURF’S UP (C. Whiteley) shifted out shortly after the start making contact with CONDI (App T. Harrison).

Leaving the 1000m CONDI had to be steadied off the heels of SURF’S UP and as a result the horse then shifted in making heavy contact with the running rail.

TEMPLE COURT (App B. Evans) overraced in the middle stages of the event and leaving the 600m improved onto the heels of GARLAND GIRL (App B. Looker) and had to be steadied.

SPACE GATER and MASTER WINNER were both held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until leaving the 200m.

OUR HUSSEY (D. Peisley), FLICKERING STORM (App A. Allen) and PASUGO were all caught racing wide for the majority of the event.

CROSS TOWN TRAFFIC (App A. Allen) was slow to begin resulting in the horse losing valuable ground.

TUSCON RAIN (C. Whiteley) had a tendency to lay in rounding the home turn which resulted in the horse having difficulty obtaining clear running until leaving the 200m.

TUSCON RAIN overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.

DALCOLO (J.P. Stanley), which yielded ground badly over the final 400m, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and found to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer P.R. Stanley was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to the gelding again racing.
