Race 1: Bundaberg Rum Maiden Plate – 1800m
1st – Bushroad 2nd – Thormanby 3rd – Avoided 4th – Gold Record

Jockey M Gray rider of GOLD RECORD was fined the sum of $200 in that he was negligent by failing to weigh out with stirrup irons.

Connections advised that AVOIDED (D Griffin) would press forward today if possible. The filly was ridden accordingly.

GRAND DIEU (App. P Schmidt) and RUFFINO (App. P Keane) were slow to begin.

RED CELTIQUE (N Thomas) shifted in at the start and made contact with THORMANBY (App. M Hellyer).

ARCHULETA (JP Stanley) which raced wide during the early stages of the event and tailed off to run a distant last, underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination. Jockey J Stanley reported that the horse was in his opinion struggling to hold its position leaving the 1000m and commenced to lose ground from the 800m. Trainer PR Stanley was advised that he is required to have the horse inspected by his veterinary surgeon and report back to stewards in the coming days.

QUASERA (App. B Wallace) which commenced to over-race during the early stages of the event improved on to heels near the 1600m and was shifted wider on the track to avoid heels. QUASERA continued to over-race for a short distance thereafter.

QUASERA and ISABEL STREET (K Fujii) raced wide throughout the event.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the performance and handling of RUFFINO (App. P Keane) to a time and date to be fixed.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey N Thomas the rider of RED CELTIQUE regarding the tactics adopted on the filly, particularly near the 1200m where ARCHULETA which was racing to the outside and in a 3 wide position was able to shift in to a 2 wide position forward of RED CELTIQUE. N Thomas stated that the filly has a tendency to over-race and for this reason he was reluctant to pressure RED CELTIQUE to maintain its position at that point.

Stewards sought an explanation from App. B Wallace the rider of QUASERA regarding the tactics adopted on that filly. B Wallace stated that after being caught wide early rounding the first turn he was conscious of instructions from Trainer J Anderson not to bustle QUASERA and for that reason he maintained a position wider on the track and he added in hindsight he may have been better served by allowing the filly to stride forward. These instructions were subsequently confirmed by Trainer J Anderson.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey A Spinks the rider of BUSHROAD and Trainer John Morrisey regarding the tactics adopted on that gelding which led in today’s event which is in contrast to the horse’s most recent starts. Jockey Spinks stated that he had not been given specific instructions as to where to settle BUSHROAD other than it depended upon how the horse began. He stated that after BUSHROAD jumped away well he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward and obtain the lead without difficulty. Mr Morrisey confirmed the instructions and was of the view that the step up to 1800m resulted in the horse settling more forward due to lack of pace in the race and also would explain a more forward showing today.

Race 2: Smirnoff Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Beach Lady 2nd – Dobros 3rd – Miss Napolli 4th – Chokktorque

The start of this race was delayed when DELIGHTFUL COMMAND (App. P Keane) damaged the inside running rail causing a delay whilst it was repaired and whilst DELIGHTFUL COMMAND was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed to take its place in the field.

DELIGHTFUL COMMAND (App. P Keane) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with MISS NAPOLLI (K Fujii). Shortly afterwards MISS NAPOLLI blundered.

CANSHELOVE (K Wharton) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition.

BITTY VOUS PLAIT (D Tanti) jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with BEACH LADY (D Missen).

NOONDAY (D Griffin) was slow to begin.

SOL D’ORO (T Gray) over-raced during the early stages of the event.

Leaving the 1000m PEPPSEELON (App. T Harrison) was forced to race in restricted room to the inside of CHOKKTORQUE (W D’Avila) which shifted in. A short distance later PEPPSEELON shifted out and became awkward after making contact with the hindquarters of CHOKKTORQUE.

Near the 600m HARVEY’S CUGAT (App. P Schmidt) had to be steadied when tightened for room to the inside of CHOKKTORQUE which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. BITTY VOUS PLAIT which was following was also forced to steady as a result.

Leaving the 500m SOL D’ORO improved on to the heels of the weakening DELIGHTFUL COMMAND (App. P Keane) and had to be checked. SOL D’ORO was then held up for clear running until a point approaching the 200m.

Over the concluding stages of the event NOONDAY had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CANSHELOVE which shifted out under pressure.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the performance and handling of SOL D’ORO to a time and date to be fixed.

Race 3: Johnnie Walker Class 2 H’cap – 2200m
1st – Run For Layla 2nd – Storm Fabulador 3rd – Mancuso 4th – Diadem Trist

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion DIADEM TRIST (App. B Wallace) had to be steadied when racing to the inside of IRON RED (App. S Wiseman) which shifted in and away from ZADANE (T Gray) despite the efforts of its rider.

Near the 600m IRON RED, after improving into a tight run inside BAIL ME OUT (App. L Rolls) had to be steadied when that runner shifted in marginally.

DIADEM TRIST laid in under pressure in the home straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of MAJESTIC SOUND (A Spinks) failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of inspection.

Race 4: Carlton Draught 2YO H’cap – 1100m
1st – Delorosa 2nd – Internal Revenue 3rd – Spinhro 4th – Tehuti

VINTAGE REBEL (A Spinks), TEHUTI (D Missen) and INTERNAL REVENUE (App. M Hellyer) were all tightened for room at the start between WALK AND TALK (C Small) and SPINHRO (M Gray) which shifted in. As a result of this incident VINTAGE REBEL lost ground.

Near the 1000m TEHUTI was forced to steady when tightened for room between WALK AND TALK and INTERNAL REVENUE which was taken in by SPINHRO. Jockey M Gray the rider of SPINHRO was advised to exercise care in similar circumstances in future.

Near the 900m INTERNAL REVENUE was steadied when tightened for room between INTERNAL REVENUE and DELOROSA (D Griffin) which shifted out.

SPINHRO over-raced during the middle stages of the event.

BEEBY GEM (App. B Wallace) raced wide throughout the event.

Leaving the 300m SPINHRO shifted out under pressure resulting in INTERNAL REVENUE being forced to stop riding and shift back to the inside of that gelding.

Over the concluding stages of the event both INTERNAL REVENUE and TEHUTI were forced to race in restricted room to the inside of SPINHRO which shifted in.

Jockey D Barron the rider of TALES OF COURAGE reported to Stewards that from the wide alley he was forced to race wide throughout and the gelding raced greenly and had a tendency to hang in throughout the event. He added that in his opinion the horse would take benefit from today’s performance.

Stewards sought an explanation from App. D Schmidt the rider of PYPAVANCE regarding the performance of that filly. Ms Schmidt stated that from a wide barrier she was forced to apply heavy pressure to the horse during the early stages to take up a forward position. She was of the opinion that this had a detrimental effect to its finishing effort. Ms Schmidt further added that in her opinion PYPAVANCE did not run out a strong 1100m. Trainer D Gollan agreed with the comments of Ms Schmidt. A post-race veterinary examination of PYPAVANCE failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey D Missen regarding the performance of TEHUTI. He stated that due to the fast early tempo set in the event he was forced to pressure the horse earlier than he had wanted in order to hold a position and further stated that he rode vigorously from leaving the 700m in order to have the horse improve into the event. He stated that TEHUTI would be more suited to races over more ground where there is a slower early tempo and the horse is able to travel without being pressured which would result in the horse finishing the race off more competitively.

Race 5: Indigo Homes QTIS 3YO Class 3 Plate – 1100m
1st – Ruapehu Boy 2nd – Sir Jaystin 3rd – Jaqualo 4th – Cyron

COOLSHOW (M Gray) and EXECUTIVE OFFICER (D Tanti) were both tightened for room and had to be checked at the start between JAQUALO (K Fujii) and SUN WARRIOR (App. L Rolls) which was taken out by CRYON (D Griffin) which shifted out.

VEE ONE (N Seymour) raced wide throughout the event.

Jockey N Seymour (VEE ONE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 800m when not sufficiently clear of JAQUALO causing that horse to be restrained and shift in tightening the running of EXECUTIVE OFFICER causing that horse to be checked and shift wider on the track. Jockey Seymour was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 04/06/11 and to expire midnight 15/06/11.

Jockey D Griffin reported to Stewards that CRYON over-raced and had a tendency to hang out throughout the event.

Race 6: Great Northern Open H’cap – 1100m
1st – Street Stall 2nd – Purettan 3rd – Eastline 4th – Jennabee

Connections advised that KALKIE KANE (S Spinks) would be settled behind other runners with cover if possible. The gelding was ridden accordingly.

MY FIRST AFFAIR (App. B Wallace) began with its head in the air and lost considerable ground at the start.

MY FIRST AFFAIR raced with its head in the air for some distance and raced ungenerously during the early stages of the event

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey D Tanti regarding the disappointing performance of FAB FEVOLA. He stated that the horse had travelled well in the lead throughout the event. However, when placed under pressure in the straight was extremely disappointing and blundered on a number of occasions in the home straight. Stable representative Mr R Booth, stated that Trainer B Guy had indicated to him that following today’s event it would be the stable’s intention to send the gelding for a spell. A post race veterinary examination of FAB FEVOLA failed to reveal any significant abnormalities other than minor lacerations to the near hind leg.

Race 7: Sky Racing Class 1 H’cap – 1300m
1st – Royal Charger 2nd – Richly Blended 3rd – Miss Judge 4th – Top Jaydee

VOCIFEROUS (App. S Wiseman) and SEEYAMONDAY (K Forrester) were slow to begin.

ARCHWAY RISING (App. P Keane) was tightened for room at the start between SYMBIOTIC (App. B Wallace) and GOT THE ROCK (A Spinks) which shifted in.

Jockey D Missen (ROYAL CHARGER) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the 1000m when insufficiently clear of CAMPINAS (D Barron) which resulted in that horse being tightened for room, making contact with SYMBIOTIC (App. B Wallace) and clipping heels and blundering losing ground at that stage of the race. In this incident GOT THE ROCK (A Spinks) which was trailing was checked as a consequence. Jockey Missen was suspended from riding in races for a period of 10 meetings to commence midnight 07/06/2011 and to expire midnight 17/06/2011.

GOOD EMPEROR (D Auckram) which over-raced during the early and middle stages shifted in near the 800m and had to be steadied from the heels of MISS JUDGE (K Fujii).

Near the 450m CAMPINAS had to steady away from the heels of ROYAL CHARGER which shifted out to improve when not fully clear. In this incident GOOD EMPEROR (D Auckram) was taken wider on the track. Jockey D Missen the rider of ROYAL CHARGER was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

Near the 200m GOOD EMPEROR and GOT THE ROCK were both tightened for room between CAMPINAS (D Barron) which shifted in and ARCHWAY RISING (App. P Keane) which shifted out. Both D Barron and App. P Keane were reprimanded for this incident. Jockey D Auckram was also reprimanded for her standard of evidence during the enquiry.

A post-race veterinary examination of CAMPINAS failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination.

A post-race veterinary examination of HAPPY GENES (App. B Looker) revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer Ms H Page was advised that she must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness for HAPPY GENES before its next race start.

App. Wiseman rider of VOCIFEROUS reported that the gelding was forced to race wide during the early stages and over-raced whilst in that position and as a result she elected to allow the horse to stride forward at a point approaching the 800m until she assumed a position outside the lead leaving the 600m.

Race 8: Carlton Mid Class 4 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Kalbo 2nd – Brigadooon Star 3rd – Hajjar 4th – Stallone

Due to a miscommunication, Jockey T Treichel was incorrectly declared as the rider of HAJJAR and as no senior rider was available, Stewards permitted App. S Arnold to be substituted on that gelding.

LADROS (D Griffin) was slow to begin.

OUR TRIPLE TREAT (A Spinks) and BRIGADOON STAR (App. B Wallace) came together on jumping away.

KALBO (K Fujii) blundered on jumping away.

Near the 1100m LADROS commenced to over-race at the heels of PUMPLECHOOK (App. P Schmidt) and had to be checked and in doing so shifted wider on the track forcing STAR OF AMY (K Forrester) wider. Both horses raced wide from this point onwards. A short distance later near the 1000m LADRO again hung out and made contact with the hindquarters of STAR OF AMY. Stewards intend to interview Trainer W Pholi regarding the horse’s racing manners.

STALLONE (D Tanti) over-raced during the early and middle stages of the event.

Approaching the 1000m BRIGADOON STAR (App. B Wallace) was steadied when racing between OUR TRIPLE TREAT and LOOPED (App. P Keane) which was taken in by KALBO. Jockey K Fujii rider of KALBO was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.

PUMPLECHOOK had difficulty obtaining clear running after passing the 400m until nearing the 200m.

STALLONE had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 250m until approaching the 150m.

Stewards sought an explanation from App. P Keane and Trainer’s representative D Mayfield-Smith regarding the disappointing performance of LOOPED. App. Keane stated that the horse despite having a tendency to hang out throughout the event travelled well in a forward position behind the lead, however, when placed under pressure shortly after entering the straight LOOPED failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing in the run to the line. D Mayfield-Smith confirmed his disappointment and was at a loss to explain the performance.
