SWEET AND VICIOUS shifted in when placed under pressure inside the final 300m.
Jockey A Pattillo was afforded the opportunity to explain the riding tactics adopted on SWEET AND VICIOUS in particular, as to the horse settling at the rear of the field which is in contrast to its previous start. A Pattillo stated although he had no strict instructions he was advised to settle the horse where it felt comfortable as at its previous start the filly was slow to begin on that occasion and was ridden hard to take up a forward position which had a detrimental effect on its overall performance. He added that after SWEET AND VICIOUS was very slow to begin his intention was to cross to be close to the running rail in an endeavour to save ground. A Pattillo further added that when placed under pressure over the final 400m the filly responded to his riding and in his opinion found the line well. Trainer Mr Heathcote confirmed the instructions.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CRAQUELURE, Jockey T Treichel stated that he settled the gelding at the rear of the field as per riding instructions. He added that at a point leaving the 600m he placed CRAQUELURE under pressure in an endeavour to improve however the gelding did not respond to his riding until on entering the straight where CRAQUELURE in his opinion only ran on fairly. The only tangible explanation T Treichel could put forward was that the gelding may not have appreciated today’s track conditions. Trainer Ms A Willick confirmed the instructions issued and also expressed her disappointment with the gelding’s performance. She undertook to report to stewards should anything come to light in the coming days which may have had a bearing on CRAQUELURE’s performance.
