THE BEST was inclined to lay out when placed under pressure in the home straight.

SANTA MAURA (C. Whiteley) raced wide throughout the event.

M. Johnston the rider of ITALIAN BEAUTY was questioned as to the reasons why he failed to take a run between MATTER OF PRIORITY (D. Green) and CAP DANCER (D. Griffin) near the 450m. M. Johnston stated that his riding instructions were that if at all possible to position the horse to the outside. He added that at a point approaching the 450m a run did present between MATTER OF PRIORITY and CAP DANCER however, in his opinion it was a very tight run and bearing in mind the instructions issued he elected to ease ITALIAN BEAUTY at that point to enable him to shift to the outside of MATTER OF PRIORITY in order to obtain an uninterrupted run to the line. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 4: Attwood Marshall Maiden SW Plate – 1300m
1st – Tacker 2nd – Kar Ma Te 3rd – Liberty Quest 4th – Skiddles

CRANNIES (D. Barron) blundered on jumping away.

Shortly after the start KAR MA TE (A. Mundy) and SKIDDLES (D. Griffin) were both hampered when tightened for room between THE INSTIGATOR (D. Tanti) and TACKER (A. Pattillo), both of which shifted ground.

Race 6: Fuso Class 1 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Tuscanarrow 2nd – Square Up 3rd – Aessex 4th – Toyhero

Stewards considered an objection lodged by K. Pope the rider of SQUARE UP which finished second against TUSCANARROW (D. Griffin) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference leaving the 300m. After viewing the official patrol footage and taking evidence from all parties stewards established that near the 250m TUSCANARROW shifted in when not sufficiently clear of SQUARE UP resulting in that runner being checked and losing its rightful running. Bearing in mind where the incident took place and the margin between the two runners stewards were comfortably satisfied that had the incident not taken place that SQUARE UP would have beaten TUSCANARROW and therefore upheld the objection and amended the placings to read:-

1st Square Up
2nd Tuscanarrow
3rd Aessex
4th Toyhero

At a subsequent inquiry D. Griffin the rider of TUSCANARROW was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that approaching the 250m he allowed his mount to shift in under pressure when insufficiently clear of SQUARE UP, causing that runner to be checked and lost its rightful running. D. Griffin’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence midnight 18 September 2011 and expire midnight 30 September 2011.

Near the 1600m RIO REX (Michael Palmer) commenced to hang out across the heels of VILLAGE COMMAND (D. Barron) and was checked.

Jockey A. Pattillo the rider of MIGHTYSUI reported that near the 1400m his mount commenced to overrace at the heels of TUSCANARROW and he was obliged to shift wider on the track. He added that from that point onwards he allowed his mount to stride forward to obtain a position sitting outside the leader.

Race 7: McGrath Class 5 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Primary Colour D/Heat 2nd – Tuscon Rain & Vivaheart 4th – Big Chance

Correct weight was delayed to allow A. Pattillo the rider of VIVAHEART which dead heated for second place the opportunity to view the film to see if he had grounds against TUSCON RAIN (C. Whiteley) which also dead heated for second. After viewing the film A. Pattillo did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared as semaphored.

BIG CHANCE overraced during the early stages of the event.

TUSCON RAIN commenced to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight placing its rider at a disadvantage.

Stewards questioned App P. Schmidt the rider of SHAOS as to her riding tactics between the 700m to a point leaving the 400m, in particular as to the reasons why she allowed her mount to lose contact with the main body of the field. App Schmidt stated that her mount was unable to muster any early speed during the early and middle stages despite her efforts. Stewards advised App Schmidt that in future she ride her mounts in a manner so as not to leave herself open to question.
