As Jockey J Warrington was indisposed through injury, Stewards permitted rider replacements as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

App. J Duffy was fined the sum of $100 for failing to provide a letter of authority when required to do so.

Race 1: Marina Mirage Fillies and Mares Class 1 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Seductive Grey 2nd – Secret Pleasure 3rd – Miss Elmo 4th – Silvakini

A short delay to the start was caused due to an ambulance officer attending to a strapper which had been injured whilst parading a runner.

SECRET PLEASURE (S Galloway) began awkwardly.

RHAPSODIC (App. T Huxham), SEDUCTIVE GREY (App. P Schmidt) and MAUVE LADY (L Cheshire) were all tightened for room at the start between MALLARD (D Griffin) and FOREVER CANNY (C Whiteley) which began awkwardly and shifted in. In this incident MALLARD made heavy contact with RHAPSODIC and became unbalanced. A short distance later MALLARD continued to shift in and made heavy contact with MISS ELMO (App. A Kitson) which then shifted in across the heels of STAR GIGGLE (App. G Goold) and was steadied.

FOREVER CANNY and RHAPSODIC raced wide throughout the event.

Near the 600m MISS ELMO improved on to the heels of STAR GIGGLE and was steadied.

MALLARD was inclined to lay in during the early part of the straight when placed under pressure.

Stewards questioned App. Goold as to the reason he eased STAR GIGGLE up over the final 200m. He stated that in his opinion the mare did not feel comfortable in its action over the final 200m and for this reason he eased the mount down. At a subsequent enquiry App. Goold was reprimanded for failing to report this matter to the Stewards as soon as practicable.
A post-race veterinary examination of STAR GIGGLE which compounded in the home straight revealed the mare to be displaying signs of cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer F Phillips was advised that the mare must compete satisfactorily in an official trial and provide the results of an ECG.

A post-race veterinary examination of FOREVER CANNY revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer R Lyford was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness before the mare races again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of SECRET PLEASURE and SILVAKINI (K Forrester) revealed both runners to have a poor post-race recovery.

Race 2: Lloyds Asset Solutions Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Choisi L’Un 2nd – Bundy 3rd – Sir Qualified 4th – Power Report

Shortly after the start CHOISI L’UN (K Pope) and POWER REPORT (App. P Schmidt) were both tightened between SIR QUALIFIED (D Tanti) which shifted out and BUNDY (N Thomas) which was taken in by SPIFFING (A Pattillo) which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. In this incident POWER REPORT was steadied and lost ground.

Near the 800m CHOISI L’UN commenced to over-race and improve up on to the heels of SIR QUALIFIED and shifted out and in doing so made heavy contact with BUNDY resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

SPIFFING raced wide throughout the event.

When questioned regarding the performance of POWER REPORT, App. P Schmidt stated that she received tightening shortly after the start which resulted in the gelding being further back than anticipated. She stated although POWER REPORT ran on fairly to the line she believed that while the gelding had some wet track form, in her opinion did not handle today’s prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of POWER REPORT failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

Race 3: Surfers Paradise RSL Class 1 H’cap – 900m
1st – Leealan 2nd – Gift of the Day 3rd – Little Miss Ombra 4th – Johpen Island

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Trainer J Dittman for the late withdrawal of ROSE OF LAWRENCE at 7.58 am.

LITTLE MISS OMBRA (L Cheshire) began awkwardly and lost ground.

GIFT OF THE DAY (App. P Keane) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start JOHPEN ISLAND (C Whiteley) was eased when tightened for room between PROFITABUL (C Small) and DANE GIGGLE (App. G Goold) both of which shifted ground.

Stewards questioned Jockey C Whiteley the rider of JOHPEN ISLAND regarding the tactics he employed leaving the 600m until a point leaving the 200m, in particular as to why he shifted to the inside of DANE GIGGLE on entering the straight. Jockey Whiteley stated that at this point of the event he elected not to shift to the outside of DANE GIGGLE as he was of the belief that DANE GIGGLE was not travelling and in a position to take him forward into the race and therefore he elected to shift to the inside in order to improve. Stewards further questioned Jockey Whiteley as to the reason why JOHPEN ISLAND appeared reluctant to take a run near the 300m between FRAHA (App. A Kitson) and PROFITABUL. Jockey Whiteley stated that despite his efforts to push for that run JOHPEN ISLAND had a tendency to lay in and was awkwardly placed at the heels of FRAHA resulting in the gelding being held up and unable to improve. He further added that after gaining clear running between those runners, JOHPEN ISLAND found the line strongly. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 4: Lloyds Onsite Auctions Maiden 4yo and up Plate – 1200m
1st – Keep up the Attack 2nd – Explorer 3rd – Another Cinderella 4th – Lady Kintalk

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Trainer S McCarthy for the late withdrawal of MISTY WARRIOR at 7.58 am.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey L Cheshire the rider of TWO NIPS which finished 5th against EXPLORER CLUB (T Huxham) being declared the 2nd placegetter alleging interference in the home straight. After hearing all evidence, viewing the patrol films, taking account and their live observations, Stewards established that near the 200m TWO NIPS was steadied when racing between LADY KINTALK (App. T Harrison) and EXPLORER CLUB which shifted in resulting in TWO NIPS being steadied and having to shift around the heels of EXPLORER CLUB in order to improve. Bearing in mind where the incident took place and the official margin between these two runners, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the incident not occurred TWO NIPS would have beaten EXPLORER CLUB and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight. At a subsequent enquiry Jockey T Huxham was reprimanded and advised that in future he must stop and straighten his mounts.

ANOTHER CINDERELLA (K Forrester) and TWO NIPS were tightened at the start between KEEP UP THE ATTACK (App. J Duffy) and EXPLORER CLUB both of which shifted ground.

CICERAO MOUNTAIN (D Tanti) was slow to begin.

SENSATIONAL HILL (S Galloway) jumped away awkwardly.

ANOTHER CINDERELLA over-raced during the early stages of the event.

CICERAO MOUNTAIN raced wide in the early stages and near the 800m commenced to hang out and did so for the remainder of the event. A subsequent veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer C O’Neill was advised that CICERAO MOUNTAIN must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next start.

Race 5: Higgins Coatings Gold Coast 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Crazy Mamma 2nd – Daph ‘N’ Alf 3rd – Hidden Jewel 4th – Suite Heavens

SUITE HEAVENS (K Forrester) was slow to begin.

VALENTINE GIRL (L Cheshire) over-raced during the middle stages of the event.

Near the 1000m FLY THE DRAGON (App. P Schmidt) which was racing ungenerously with its head in the air was checked when tightened for room between VIKING HEART and ELLYTHEA (K Pope) which shifted in when also racing ungenerously. At a subsequent enquiry Stewards were mindful of the racing characteristics of FLY THE DRAGON and ELLYTHEA however, reprimanded Jockey K Pope and advised that they would expect more effort from him to prevent his mounts from shifting ground, in similar circumstances.

Near the 800m RETUNE (M Johnson) was inconvenienced when tightened for room by ELLYTHEA which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

Trainer J Morissey was advised that an official warning will now be placed on the racing manners of ELLYTHEA.

Near the 600m VIKING HEART (D Missen) shifted out around the heels of BRITAILA KATE (App. P Keane) in order to improve and raced wide from this point onwards.

Stewards afforded Jockey K Forrester the opportunity to explain the performance of SUITE HEAVENS. Jockey Forrester stated that after being slow into stride the filly was unable to muster speed despite his efforts during the early stages of the event and as a result lost contact with the main body of the field. He further added that after being momentarily held up for clear running behind VALENTINE GIRL (L Cheshire) rounding the home turn, SUITE HEAVENS found the line strongly and he was of the opinion that the filly would derive benefit from today’s racing experience.

Following a severe thunderstorm, heavy rain and damage to the back straight running rail, Stewards inspected the track and abandoned the remainder of the meeting due to safety concerns at 4.25 pm.
