Race 1: Magic Millions Tickets Online Now QTIS 2YO H’Cap – 900m
1st – Lady Colours 2nd – Little Critter 3rd – Headless 4th – Aronson
As B. Stewart was late arriving on course stewards permitted J. Ford to be substituted as the rider of DOUBTFILLY. B. Stewart was subsequently fined the sum of $100.00.
DOUBTFILLY and AIN’T SHE SWEET (L. Cheshire) were both slow to begin.
ARONSON (J. Byrne) raced greenly in the early stages and approaching the 600m shifted in away from LITTLE CRITTER (D. Missen), resulting in HEADLESS (App T. Bell) and PREFECT (J. Taylor) being tightened for room.
Passing the 400m DOUBTFILLY had to be steadied from the heels of PREFECT when that runner commenced to tire.
Leaving the 300m HEADLESS was disappointed for a run between LITTLE CRITTER and ARONSON, which shifted in when racing greenly. HEADLESS then had difficulty obtaining clear running when awkwardly placed between ARONSON and LITTLE CRITTER until near the 100m where it was obliged to alter course to the inside of LITTLE CRITTER to obtain clear running.
SCHWEIZ (A. Best) and CHARGE OF FORTUNE (R. McMahon) both laid in under pressure in the home straight.
A post race veterinary examination of PREFECT, which weakened badly in the home straight, revealed the horse to be slightly lame in the near fore leg. Trainer N. Saunders will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to PREFECT again racing.
DOUBTFILLY had to alter course to the outside of the tiring ARONSON over the concluding stages.
HEADLESS raced greenly throughout the event.
Stewards sought an explanation from L. Cheshire regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of AIN’T SHE SWEET. L. Cheshire stated that the horse was slow to begin and took up a position towards the rear of the field which is in line with its customary racing pattern. L. Cheshire advised however that she felt that the drop back in distance today from its most previous start did not suit and she was satisfied with the manner in which the filly finished the race off in the home straight.
Race 2: Party In The Paddock Tickets Online Now Class 6 SW Plate – 2200m
1st – Mr Light Blue 2nd – Eureka Jack 3rd – Bugsytwoshoes 4th – Object Of Virtue
Correct weight was delayed to allow App A. Allen and trainer G. Hutchesson the opportunity to view the stewards footage of the start to ascertain whether GOLDEN CYGNET had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the footage both parties did not wish to proceed with the matter. It was established that GOLDEN CYGNET had become fractious in the barriers and at the request of the rider was assisted by a barrier attendant. Following the start being effected GOLDEN CYGNET jumped away very awkwardly and lost ground. Trainer G. Hutchesson was advised that he must produce a further barrier certificate for GOLDEN CYGNET before it again races.
BUGSYTWOSHOES (B. Looker) was slow to begin.
BUGSYTWOSHOES overraced at the heels of EUREKA JACK for a short distance rounding the turn out of the front straight.
When KEN AND KIM (L. Cheshire) surrendered the lead to TWO TIMES A LADY (B. Stewart) near the 1600m it commenced to race fiercely and continued to do so until it commenced to weaken after passing the 600m. A post race veterinary examination of KEN AND KIM revealed a slower than normal recovery rate.
BUGSYTWOSHOES shifted out on the home turn taking both HANDSOME (Matthew Palmer) and MUKADDAMAH SON (P. Hammersley) wider on the track.
Upon entering the home straight EUREKA JACK (C. Munce) and NO MORE BULL (J. Ford) brushed.
Stewards sought an explanation from App A. Allen and trainer G. Hutchesson regarding the riding tactics that were adopted on GOLDEN CYGNET. Trainer G. Hutchesson advised that he had instructed App Allen that with the light weight today to make a sustained run on the mare from the 800m and attempt to set up a lead on the main body of the field upon entering the straight. Mr Hutchesson added that GOLDEN CYGNET was up in class today and he felt that these were the best tactics in the circumstances. App Allen stated that GOLDEN CYGNET commenced to overrace near the 1400m and rather than restrain he moved the mare 3 wide and improved his position to eventually obtain the lead near the 800m and from that point he allowed the mare to stride. Stewards advised both parties that in their view it would have been a better option to ride GOLDEN CYGNET more conservatively bearing in mind the step up in class from its most recent start but were not of the view that further action was warranted.
Race 3: Karen Millen Class 6 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Skating On Ice 2nd – Catashee 3rd – The Reveller 4th – Achievements
TOP JAYDEE (J. Byrne), BLACKWOODS CHOICE (L. Cheshire) and NARCELO (J. Ford) were all slow to begin.
LUCKY SONGS (Matthew Palmer) was hampered at the start between EMOTICON (A. Best) and PRIMEVAL DEMAND (E. Wilkinson), both of which shifted ground.
EMOTICON overraced in the early stages of the event.
After passing the 800m when the pace steadied TOP JAYDEE improved up onto the heels of THE REVELLER (G. Colless) and had to be checked. PRIMEVAL DEMAND which was trailing also had to be checked in consequence.
Near the 300m EMOTICON shifted out under pressure and bumped SKATING ON ICE (App M. Wood).
LOOPED (R. McMahon), NARCELO and SKATING ON ICE all raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless the rider of THE REVELLER as to why he remained behind NEWSNIGHT (J. Taylor) rather than move THE REVELLER to a position behind ACHIEVEMENTS (C. Munce) approaching the 400m which ultimately resulted in THE REVELLER being held up until near the 250m when racing to the inside of the heels of ACHIEVEMENTS. G. Colless stated that it was his intention to follow ACHIEVEMENTS into the race as he felt that it would be one of the hardest to beat and added that at the 400m he was unable to move outwards due to HOROSCOPES (D. Griffin) racing tightly to his outside. G. Colless added that shortly after entering the home straight his mount improved quickly to the inside of the heels of ACHIEVEMENTS and when that runner did not quicken as he expected, he was held up until he was able to shift out around the heels of ACHIEVEMENTS near the 200m. Trainer M. Dunn advised that THE REVELLER is best suited when ridden with cover and produced late as the horse only possesses a short sprint. Mr Dunn informed stewards that the horse has been successful when ridden similarly in the past. Stewards advised G. Colless that in their view it would have been a better option to move outwards with HOROSCOPES leaving the 400m to ensure his mount gained clear running rather than remaining to the inside of ACHIEVEMENTS and relying on it to quicken to afford his mount clear running.
Race 4: Pure Indulgence Fillies & Mares NMW SC H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Magic Tartan 2nd – Rhapsodic 3rd – Bingo Rose 4th – Geblitzt
GEBLITZT (P. Hammersley) and RHAPSODIC (E. Wilkinson) were severely hampered at the start when tightened for room between LIGHTFEET LADY (App M. Wood) and HIDDEN WOMAN (C. Munce), both of which shifted ground.
RHAPSODIC was unable to secure clear running in the home straight until after passing the 200m and when shifting to the outside of the heels of KARANJA (Matthew Palmer) was inclined to lay in and became awkward on the heels of that runner.
HIDDEN WOMAN was obliged to race 4 wide throughout the event.
GETYOUROWN (N. Thomas), KARANJA (Matthew Palmer) and TY SEEKER (J. Ford) all raced wide throughout the event.
Race 5: Coastal Tipper Hire Colts, Geldings & Entires NMW SC H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Rocker 2nd – The Ringmaster 3rd – Nothing Like Luca 4th – Gunner Knox
ROCKER (G. Colless) faltered at the start and shifted in making contact with SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET (D. Griffin).
HEADHUNTER (App M. Wood) jumped in at the start taking GUNNER KNOX (B. Stewart) in onto THE RINGMASTER (P. Hammersley).
P. Hammerlsey the rider of THE RINGMASTER was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 800m when not sufficiently clear of MY ELIXA (S. Galloway), which had to be steadied.
HEADHUNTER raced wide until a point near the 700m.
LONESOME DAY (App T. Bell) and GUNNER KNOX both raced wide throughout the event.
App B. Looker sustained a harmless fall from THE CRANBERRIES when that horse shifted out abruptly after passing the winning post.
A post race veterinary examination of ARMA (J. Ford) revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer J. Shelton will be advised that he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to ARMA racing again.
DUKE WILLIAM lost an off hind plate in running.
Race 6: Gold Coast City Council 3YO Quality H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Divine City 2nd – Leealan 3rd – High On Believing 4th – Spinhro
Trainer D. Baker advised that MR FAVULOUS would be ridden in a forward position today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
MOROCCAN DANCER (R. McMahon) shifted out and the start and bumped SPINHRO (M. Gray).
JET STAR GIRL (J. Taylor) and ALDINI (Matthew Palmer) were tightened for room on jumping away between SKATER DUDE (D. Griffin) and PEAR TART (App T. Bell), both of which shifted ground.
Near the 900m WINDS ME UP (B. Stewart) had to be steadied momentarily when tightened by PEAR TART, which shifted in.
App T. Bell the rider of PEAR TART was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that approaching the 700m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of WINDS ME UP, resulting in that horse being tightened and taken in onto MOROCCAN DANCER (R. McMahon), which had to be checked. SPINHRO (M. Gray) which was following also had to be checked. App Bell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) meetings to commence midnight 14 January 2012 and expire at the conclusion of the Ipswich meeting on 27 January 2012.
For a short distance rounding the home turn JET STAR GIRL was forced to race in restricted room between MOROCCAN DANCER, which was shifting out to improve and CARESSABLE ONE (E. Wilkinson).
Near the 300m MR FAVULOUS (J. Ford) shifted out resulting in PEAR TART having to be steadied. PEAR TART then had difficulty obtaining clear running until a point leaving the 150m.
SKATER DUDE and DIVINE CITY (C. Munce) both raced wide throughout the event.
B. Stewart rider of WINDS ME UP, which compounded badly, reported that the horse was making an abnormal respiratory noise over the concluding stages. Trainer G. Heinrich will be interviewed in regards to this matter at a later date.
Race 7: Attwood Marshall Lawyers Bat Out Of Hell Quality H’Cap – 900m
1st – Carry To Fortune 2nd – Seek And Find 3rd – Reilly Blue 4th – Inventory
The start of this race was delayed after riders alerted stewards to the fact that a race plate was laying on the track near the 120m.
INVENTORY (M. Hellyer) lost its footing behind on jumping away resulting in the horse losing considerable ground.
Near the 300m SEEK AND FIND (J. Taylor) shifted out making contact with JOPA (D. Griffin) resulting in that horse having to be steadied when taken in across the heels of REILLY BLUE (C. Munce).
ALL THAT (R. McMahon) was unable to secure clear running in the home straight and as a result went to the line not fully tested.
J. Taylor reported that rather than risk being forced to race wide he decided to attempt to position SEEK AND FIND near the fence in the early stages which resulted in the horse settling towards the rear of the field. J. Taylor added that in his view he did not feel the horse could take up a position any closer to the lead and informed stewards the horse would be better suited over further distance.
A post race veterinary examination of TRUSTED PARTNER revealed no abnormalities.
Race 8: Pamper Parties Gold Coast Benchmark 85 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Topping 2nd – Gold Rating 3rd – Rockdale 4th – Grey Assignment
SKY RAIDER blundered badly on jumping away dislodging its rider D. Missen.
SHOOTING SCENE (App T. Bell) was slow to begin.
Near the 1400m SKY RAIDER, the riderless runner, shifted in resulting in BAWAARDI (Matthew Palmer), ROCKDALE (App A. Allen) and TOPPING (P. Hammersley) all having to be steadied.
Near the 600m PINOT GIRL (E. Wilkinson) shifted out and made contact with FIRE UP FIFI (J. Byrne).
Matthew Palmer the rider of BAWAARDI, which performed below expectations, explained that the horse overraced through the middle stages after being tightened by the riderless runner and was forced to make a sustained run from the 600m when pressured by ROCKDALE.
G. Colless reported that BRAVE THE WAY was under pressure from the 800m and was disappointing from that point. Trainer A. Bailey advised that several horses in his care had shown signs of having a virus and he had taken blood tests from BRAVE THE WAY which all indicated the horse was in a suitable condition to race. Mr Bailey further advised that in view of the horse’s performance he would now have further tests conducted and send BRAVE THE WAY for an immediate spell.
