1st – Purfectress 2nd – Peace Talks 3rd – Crazy Mamma 4th – Solebid

Connections of FLORIDA FELLOW (C. Whiteley), which led last start, advised it was their intention to ride the gelding just off the pace today if circumstances permit due to the horse stepping up in distance. The horse was ridden accordingly.

MASTER MORGAN (App T. Harrison) lost ground when crowded for room shortly after jumping away between CURRAWEE LASS (App J. Letherby) and PEACE TALKS (A. Best), which shifted in.

Approaching the 1000m MASTER MORGAN overraced badly and threw its head in the air.

Leaving the 1000m PURFECTRESS (App A. Badger) overraced at the heels of FLORIDA FELLOW and had to be steadied. PURFECTRESS continued to overrace at the heels of FLORIDA FELLOW until leaving the 700m.

FLORIDA FELLOW overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.

MASTER MORGAN again raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 500m.

CURRAWEE LASS raced wide throughout the event.

Race 3: Happy 40th Birthday Nathan MacDonald C, G & E Maiden SW Plate – 900m
1st – Blaisingjad 2nd – Call Me Gus 3rd – Tallai Gold 4th – Sand Biscuit

The start of this race was initially delayed as a result of BLAISINGJAD having to be reshod at the barriers.

CALL ME GUS (K. Forrester) began awkwardly and shifted out.

L. Cheshire reported that TROPHY HUNTER had a tendency to lay in for the majority of the event and as a result shifted in and bumped ANIKINTIME at the 400m.

C. Small the rider of SAND BISCUIT was reprimanded under the provisions of AR137A for striking his mount with the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. In deciding penalty stewards took into account C. Small’s previous good record in relation to this type of matter.

When questioned C.Whiteley could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance of ANIKINTIME as the horse failed to respond when placed under pressure leaving the 400m.

Race 4: Happy 50th Birthday Jeff Garrett Fillies & Mares Maiden SW Plate – 900m
1st – Heart Of My Heart 2nd – Floral Garden 3rd – Dame Judarius 4th – Kenetic

A veterinary examination was carried out on OUTBACK PRINCESS following the event after jockey D. Missen expressed concerns with the horse’s actions during the running of the race, found the mare to be sore in both fore legs. A veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before the mare again races however, trainer W. King advised it would now be the intention to retire OUTBACK PRINCESS from racing.

The track was upgraded to a Heavy 8 following the running of this event.

Connections of SHARMA (D. Tanti) which led last start, advised it was their intention to ride the gelding just off the pace today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

MAJESTIC EXPRESS was inspected by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers after being kicked by another runner whilst parading. The horse was cleared to start.

NOT A GREAT LOOK (M. Paget) and MAJESTIC EXPRESS were both checked at the start when racing between HEART THROB (App K. Matheson) and SHOW OF HEAVEN (L. Cheshire), both of which shifted ground.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HEART THROB App K. Matheson stated that the horse overraced in the early stages of the event and failed to settle. App Matheson further added that the gelding failed to respond when placed under pressure leaving the 500m and proved most disappointing. Stewards will interview trainer L. Kelly at a later date regarding the post race recovery and future program of the horse.

D. Griffin the rider of the fifth placegetter COUNTACH was reprimanded for failing to weigh in.

BRASCAN (App A. Badger) raced extremely wide for the majority of the event.

ALEXTHEASTRONOMER (App R. Jamieson) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned M. Paget regarding the disappointing performance of FIERCE RIVAL. M. Paget stated that the horse as a result of being fractious in the barriers lost some ground at the start and as a result settled in a position towards the inside which he felt was unsuitable due to the track conditions. He further added that near the 600m he was able to manoeuvre FIERCE RIVAL wider on the track however, the horse failed to respond and proved most disappointing. Stewards will interview trainer L. Kelly regarding the post race recovery and future program of the horse.

Stewards questioned trainer M. Maunder regarding the seemingly improved performance of BRASCAN today compared to its performance at Ipswich on 9 March 2012 where on a slow track it finished second last beaten over 7 lengths. Mr Maunder stated that it had been approximately 4 weeks since the horse’s last start leading up to the Ipswich run and may have been underdone for that event as a result of wet weather during that period. He further stated that BRASCAN was better suited to races of 1800m or longer and is of the view that the event at Ipswich on 9 March which was over 1500m was unsuitable however, at the time he was of the view the horse would be competitive due to being freshened up for that race. He further added it would be his intention to restrict the racing program of BRASCAN to races of 1800m or longer. Stewards noted his comments.

E. Kehoe the rider of TOY RULER was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that she allowed her mount to shift in approaching the 1100m when insufficiently clear of DOBROS, which resulted in DOBROS being checked and shifting in crowding AMERICAN GANGSTER and DUBAI PROSPECT (D. Griffin). E. Kehoe’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of six (6) meetings to commence midnight 1st April 2012 and expire midnight 12th April 2012.
