SUPPLEMENTARY:

Stewards enquired into an incident that occurred at track work at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Tuesday 27 March 2012. After hearing all submissions from Trainer T Edmonds and club employee Mr M Andrews, Trainer T Edmonds pleaded guilty to a charge of improper conduct and was fined the sum of $200. Stewards further advised Mr M Andrews that a report of this matter would be forwarded to the CEO of the Gold Coast Turf Club.

From Sunshine Coast – 4 March 2012 – App. A Smith (KEN AND KIM) was fined the sum of $100 for excessive whip use.

Monday 26 March 2012 – Stewards today inquired into the circumstances regarding another horse being brought to the racecourse instead of STRATUM FORCE which was to compete in Race 7 at the Gold Coast Turf Club meeting on March 24. That horse subsequently being identified as BE MY LOVE.

Evidence taken from STRATUM FORCE’s Trainer Norm Stephens and strapper Mick Ryan established that Mr Stevens had left for the race meeting prior to the horse departing with Mr Ryan in charge of the loading of the horse onto the float and escorting it to the track. Mr Ryan who works only on a part-time basis for Mr Stephens stated that as the horse transport arrived significantly late he quickly collected the gear outside the horse’s stall and led the horse which he believed was STRATUM FORCE to the float.

Photographic evidence produced to Stewards by Mr Stephens revealed that both STRATUM FORCE and BE MY LOVE have very similar facial markings.

Stewards after giving careful consideration to the matter were of the view that the incident resulted from a combination of factors that resulted in an inadvertent mistake being made. Stewards were satisfied that there was no ulterior motive to the actions and as such took the matter no further other than to advise Mr Stephens that ultimate responsibility for the presentation of his horse rests with him.
