Race 1: Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation Open H’Cap – 2200m
1st – Shamardashing 2nd – Fruehling 3rd – Streets Away 4th – Winmara
The start of this race was delayed when GALIZANI (G. Schofield) required the attention of the farrier to refit the off fore plate, which it lost during the preliminary.
STREETS AWAY (G. Colless) reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
FRUEHLING (D. Moor) was slow to begin.
Rounding the turn out of the home straight FRUEHLING shifted in of its own accord and made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.
Near the 1100m BELL ACADEMY (App J. Adams), which had been overracing at the heels of FRUEHLING (D. Moor), shifted out around the heels of VIKING HERO (J. Byrne) and made heavy contact with STREETS AWAY (G. Colless) forcing that runner wider on the track. STREETS AWAY then raced 3 wide for the remainder of the race. App J. Adams was issued with a reprimand and advised to show greater care when shifting ground in future.
Jockey D. Moor the rider of FRUEHLING reported that when the pace increased he was held up and unable to improve between the 700m and 550m when awkwardly placed to the inside of SHAMARDASHING (C. Munce) and at the heels of WARRIOR WITHIN (P. Hammersley). He was also of the view that FRUEHLING did not appreciate the soft conditions today.
Stewards sought an explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance of WARRIOR WITHIN. P. Hammersley stated that the horse began well but travelled only fairly outside the leader ZA MAGIC (E. Wilkinson) and was unable to accelerate in the conditions when the tempo of the race increased near the 800m and compounded over the concluding stages proving disappointing.
Rider E. Wilkinson was afforded the opportunity to explain the disappointing performance of ZA MAGIC. E. Wilkinson stated the horse enjoyed an easy lead unchallenged however, when BELL ACADEMY progressed to his outside passing the 800m ZA MAGIC did not respond to his urgings and proved disappointing. E. Wilkinson added that the horse may have come to the end of its preparation.
BREAK THE ICE lost a near fore plate in running.
Race 2: Green Guide Class 6 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Boys On Tour 2nd – Side To Side 3rd – They Won’t Last 4th – Kiss Me Deadly
THEY WON’T LAST (G. Schofield) jumped away awkwardly and had to be steadied shortly after the start from the heels of THEFIFTHHOLE (L. Cassidy), which shifted in.
Leaving the 1000m EASTLINE (App J. Hull) laid in and away from SAVAGE RIVER (K. Wharton) and had to be steadied from the heels of SIDE TO SIDE (C. Munce).
For some distance approaching and passing the 900m TRISKELE (P. Hammersley) was forced to race in restricted room to the inside of MACHINATION (App P. Keane), which after initially shifting in was taken in by KISS ME DEADLY (E. Wilkinson).
Approaching the 300m SHOW ME AN ACE (B. Stewart) became awkwardly placed at the heels of the tiring THEFIFTHHOLE and had to be steadied.
SAVAGE RIVER raced wide throughout the event.
L. Cassidy reported that THEFIFTHHOLE never travelled well and was not at any stage comfortable on today’s heavy track. A post race veterinary examination of THEFIFTHHOLE revealed no abnormalities.
P. Hammersley reported that TRISKELE travelled comfortably until the pace quickened after passing the 600m and although he would have liked to have shifted wider on the track to improve TRISKELE was not travelling well enough and commenced to weaken shortly after this point.
Race 3: Surfers Paradise RSL Benchmark 90 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Hour Of Peril 2nd – Demanding Miss 3rd – Ruapehu Boy 4th – Patties Mate
As P. Hammersley was overweight stewards permitted K. Wharton to be replaced as the rider of BLUE JUPITER. P. Hammersley was subsequently fined the sum of $200.00.
As G. Schofield was overweight stewards permitted J. Cassidy to be replaced as the rider of HOUR OF PERIL. G. Schofield was subsequently fined the sum of $200.00.
For some distance approaching the 200m ROSAGAZE (B. Stewart) and HANGOVER HENRY (J. Byrne) made contact on several occasions.
MR ORIENT (L. Cassidy) raced wide throughout the event.
G. Colless the rider of ROCKER reported that ROCKER travelled only fairly through the ground apart for a short period of the race leaving the 750m when the horse travelled well into the race however, G. Colless stated that once he placed ROCKER under pressure it did not show its customary acceleration in the soft conditions. A post race veterinary examination of ROCKER revealed no significant findings.
When asked to explain the performance of GENERAL PURPLE rider S. Galloway stated that the gelding travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages however when placed under pressure approaching the home turn GENERAL PURPLE was inclined to hang in and proved difficult to ride in the home straight. S. Galloway added that in his view GENERAL PURPLE would now appreciate racing over further distances than today’s race.
Trainer B. Smith was fined the sum of $100.00 for presenting GENERAL PURPLE in the incorrect gear.
Race 4: Moreton Hire Ken Russell Memorial 2YO SW Listed Classic – 1200m
1st – Sizzling 2nd – Dances On Stars 3rd – Dansonate 4th – Dansal
Approaching the 800m HERE’S TO YA (D. Griffin) commenced to overrace and had to be checked when it improved onto the heels of YOU’RE MINE (L. Nolen).
Near the 300m DANSAL (L. Cassidy) was disappointed for a run between UTILISM (G. Colless) and CHARGE A FORTUNE (E. Wilkinson), which shifted out slightly. DANSAL was then obliged to alter course to the inside in order to improve.
G. Schofield reported that DANCES ON STARS was reluctant to improve into a run between SALUTER (J. Byrne) and BURLEIGH HEADS (G. Cooksley) at the top of the straight and he therefore chose to alter course to the outside at which stage DANCES ON STARS finished the race off well.
App J. Noonan reported that whilst WOLFSBURG was not comfortable on the heavy track he was not satisfied with the horse’s action. A post race veterinary examination of WOLFSBURG revealed the filly to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer J.P. Thompson was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to WOLFSBURG again racing.
A post race veterinary examination of NOOGOORA BURR, which compounded badly in the home straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
C. Munce the rider of SIZZLING was fined the sum of $200.00 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
SALUTER lost a near front plate in running.
Race 5: Attwood Marshall Lawyers Silk Stocking Fillies & Mares Quality Listed WR 0.5kg – 1200m
1st – Mascareri 2nd – Just Been Lucky 3rd – Beethog 4th – Mossriver
ALLTHERIGHTMOVES (B. Stewart) was fractious in the barrier stalls and faltered when the start was effected resulting in the horse losing some ground.
Near the 1000m JUST BEEN LUCKY (J. Cassidy) was momentarily tightened for room between DUAL CHAMBER (E. Wilkinson) and FUNTANTES (G. Colless). After being restrained JUST BEEN LUCKY got its head in the air and lost ground.
App M. Vance pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that after passing the 100m she failed to make sufficient effort to prevent MISS IMAGICA from shifting in resulting in ALLTHERIGHTMOVES (B. Stewart) having to be checked to avoid the heels of MISS IMAGICA. App Vance’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence midnight 12 May 2012 and expire midnight 23 May 2012.
Stewards sought an explanation from B. Stewart regarding the performance of ALLTHERIGHTMOVES. B. Stewart stated that the mare travelled comfortably and near the 500m he would have like to have shifted wider on the track but was unable to do this as MISS IMAGICA was racing to his outside. B. Stewart added that in the early part of the straight he was disappointed for a run between MONTANA FLYER (L. Cassidy) and FEMINA FASHION (B. Avdulla), which shifted out. B. Stewart further added that ALLTHERIGHTMOVES began to make ground after passing the 200m until he had to check the mare near the 100m. A post race veterinary examination of ALLTHERIGHTMOVES failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless regarding the tactics adopted on FUNTANTES whereby the horse settled in a rearward position which is in contrast to its recent racing pattern. G. Colless stated that from a wide barrier the mare did not show her customary early speed and rather than having to race extremely wide he elected to restrain FUNTANTES and obtain cover.
SARAJI lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 6: H Harvey Prestige Gold Coast Bracelet 3YO Fillies SW Listed – 1800m
1st – Scorpio Queen 2nd – Secret Garden 3rd – Anagold 4th – Miss Artistic
L. Cassidy the rider of URBAN ROCKER was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in leaving the 1000m tightening the running of MISS ARTISTIC (C. Munce), which had to be steadied. At the same stage PRETTY PINS (M. Cahill) made contact with the running rail and shifted outwards which further tightened the running of MISS ARTISTIC.
Stewards sought an explanation from D. Browne in respect to the performance of ANGELUS. D. Browne stated that ANGELUS travelled well in the early stages however, when the pace increased from the 1000m the filly was immediately under pressure and compounded from that point. Trainer’s representative Mr P. Snowden informed stewards that the filly’s tongue was positioned back in its throat on returning to the enclosure which led him to believe that the horse may have got its tongue over the bit during running. Mr Snowden undertook to advise stewards in the coming days anything which may have had a bearing on today’s performance.
A post race of PRETTY PINS revealed the filly to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer J.P. Thompson was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be require to be produced prior to PRETTY PINS again racing.
App J. Adams reported that MEGHALAYA travelled well in the lead until such time as he placed the filly under pressure rounding the home turn and MEGHALAYA weakened from that point. He added that the filly was not entirely comfortable on today’s heavy track. A post race veterinary examination of MEGHALAYA revealed no significant abnormalities.

TOP DROP (App J. Adams) was slow to begin.
WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (L. Cassidy) jumped out at the start and bumped DALZAR (A. Spinks), which in turn shifted out and bumped DURHAM TOWN (D. Browne).
Near the 300m DALZAR had to be eased when tightened for room between FILLYDELPHIA (J. Byrne), which shifted in slightly and WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY, which shifted out when weakening . L. Cassidy the rider of WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY was advised to at all times make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground when under pressure.
MEET GEORGE (E. Wilkinson) raced wide throughout the event.
TOP DROP bled from both nostrils during the running of this event. Trainer G. Ryan was advised that TOP DROP would now incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A.

WITCHES WONDER (D. Griffin) faltered in the going on several occasions in the home straight.
LUCKY MORNA laid in when tiring in the home straight.
Trainer B. Smith was fined the sum of $200.00 under the provisions of AR135A for failing to report to stewards that STATE OF WEALTH would be ridden in a forward position today which is in contrast to the gelding’s most recent start where it settled at the rear of the field.
Trainer D. Payne was fined the sum of $300.00 under AR140(c) for failing to inform stewards that FLORENTINA had undergone corrective throat surgery since its last start. In assessing penalty stewards acknowledged that Mr Payne had reported this occurrence through the media.
Trainer G. Ryan was fined the sum of $100.00 for presenting EXTRACEED in the incorrect gear.
Rider D. Browne and trainer D. Forster were afforded the opportunity to explain the seemingly poor performance of EASY RUNNING. D. Browne stated that he was obliged to position EASY RUNNING in the inferior part of the track during running and believed the horse did not appreciate the soft going and as a result did not quicken when asked for an effort in the straight. Trainer D. Forster attributed the horse’s poor performance to the track conditions and informed stewards that the horse had worked very well leading into the event and the stable expected a forward showing. A post race veterinary examination of EASY RUNNING revealed no significant abnormalities.
