SUPPLEMENTARY:
From Sunshine Coast Turf Club 9 May 2012 – Race 6
Stewards today interviewed trainer T. Edmonds together with App J. Hull regarding the tactics adopted on ROCKING EASY during the early stages when settling towards the rear of the field, which is in contrast to its previous start. App Hull advised that he was advised to ride the horse where comfortable in order to obtain cover. Trainer T. Edmonds indicated that ROCKING EASY is best suited when ridden with cover and expressed some disappointment with the tactics that were adopted at is most recent start when ridden vigorously in the early stages to the lead at the Gold Coast Turf Club on 21 April 2012. Stewards noted Mr Edmonds’ explanation however advised him of his obligations to ensure he notifies stewards of any change of tactics in future. Mr Edmonds also reported that ROCKING EASY would now be sent for an immediate spell.
GENERAL:
Trainer T. Edmonds was fined the sum of $200.00 under the provisions of LR43 for employing Miss E. MacDonald as a stablehand when she was not properly licensed.
Trainer T. Edmonds was further fined the sum of $100.00 for failing to ensure a stablehand employed by him was wearing a reflective vest whilst carrying out her duties at trackwork on 1 May 2012 under the provisions of AR80(d).

Race 1: Black Caviar Turns 21 Promotion Maiden 4YO & Up H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Rattler’s Lad 2nd – Harmonies 3rd – Ready To Launch 4th – Johanne’s Diamond
Correct weight was delayed to allow R. Wiggins to view the start to ascertain whether he had grounds for READY TO LAUNCH to be declared a non-runner as the horse was standing awkwardly in the barrier stalls and had its near hind leg up on the barrier partition when the start was effected. R. Wiggins was advised that acting under the provisions of AR134A he did not have grounds for READY TO LAUNCH to be declared a non-runner as the horse had been placed third. As a consequence of READY TO LAUNCH being fractious in the barriers it missed the start by a considerable distance.
Approaching the 200m READY TO LAUNCH was inclined to lay in under pressure and as a result its rider R. Wiggins changed the whip to his right hand.
L. Williams the rider of HITMAN HARRY was reminded of his obligations to at all times ride his mounts out to the end of the race.
A post race veterinary examination of I’M OFF TA TA revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of shin soreness. Trainer D. Pendergast was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to I’M OFF TA TA again racing.
Race 2: May 23 Retired Living Raceday Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 2 HCP – 1400m

Upon arrival at the barriers EMPEROR was examined by the veterinary surgeon and found to have a small amount of blood in its mouth but was cleared to race.
BOLD AND AWAY (C. Whiteley) was slow to begin.
FIVE O’CLOCK (G. Colless) jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of RITZY’S BOY (J. Byrne). G. Colless reported that FIVE O’CLOCK hung out for a major part of the race and this in his opinion was due to the horse racing wide without cover. Trainer A. Bailey agreed with jockey Colless' assessment and indicated that he would be experimenting with the gear worn by the gelding in an endeavour to get him to race more tractably. Mr Bailey was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of FIVE O'CLOCK.
For some distance approaching and passing the 1000m COUSINE ISLAND (App T. Harrison) when overracing improved up onto the heels of RED HOT HUSSLER (M. Palmer) and had to be eased.
RITZY’S BOY raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.
Stewards sought an explanation from B. Stewart regarding the performance of VESTING. B. Stewart advised that he was instructed to ride the gelding in a forward position but after beginning only fairly VESTING was unable to muster any early speed and as a result settled towards the rear of the field. B. Stewart added that the gelding began to travel comfortably during the middle section of the race but when placed under pressure upon straightening did not respond to his riding and was disappointing.
Stewards sought an explanation from J. Byrne regarding the performance of RITZY’S BOY. J. Byrne advised that he was instructed to ride the gelding in a midfield position. J. Byrne added that after beginning well he endeavoured to ride RITZY’S BOY forward in an endeavour to find cover closer to the rail behind the leaders however, at a point near the 1000m when endeavouring to shift closer to the rail ALKIORI (D. Griffin) had improved quickly to his inside and as a result RITZY’S BOY was obliged to race in a 3 wide position for the remainder of the event.

Approaching the 700m LADY INNOCENT (App R. Jamieson) when overracing had to be steadied from the heels of WILD PROMISES and as a result shifted out and brushed the hind quarters of ATLANTIS GEM (App M. Vance) and became unbalanced.
Near the 600m WILD PROMISES hung in away from CATHAY LADY (D. Missen) resulting in STAND READY being hampered.
App J. Hull reported that WILD PROMISES travelled comfortably until near the 600m when CATHAY LADY improved to its outside and commenced to hang in from that point and proved difficult to ride in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination of WILD PROMISES revealed no abnormalities.

Near the 700m CEE OH TWO improved up onto the heels of MAGARI’S DREAM (P. Hammersley) and had to be restrained.

PRINCESS FORSE (App T. Harrison) was slow to begin.
COASTAL (J. Taylor) raced wide in the early stages before obtaining the lead near the 1100m.
CASHGAH (C. Whiteley) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 250m.
SNIPOFFTHEOLDBLOCK (M. Hellyer) raced 3 wide for a major part of the race.
D. Griffin the rider of SKATE ON BY was asked to explain the performance of the gelding. D. Griffin stated that he anticipated settling in a handy position and after beginning fairly SKATE ON BY was unable to muster the necessary speed in the early stages and as a result settled in a midfield position with cover. D. Griffin added that he had to apply pressure to SKATE ON BY throughout the middle stages to get the gelding to travel and when he applied pressure soon after entering the home straight SKATE ON BY did not sprint as he expected and in his opinion is looking for races over a further distance than today’s. Trainer H. Page indicated that SKATE ON BY would now be stepped up in distance in future starts.
A. Mundy the rider of SALE ALONG, which performed below expectation, could not offer any explanation for the colt’s disappointing performance.
Race 6: 25 August Gold Coast City Cup Raceday Class 3 SW Plate – 1100m
1st – Tabassi 2nd – Audacious Spirit 3rd – Forbidden Dragon 4th – Cryon
CRYON (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.
App J. Hull reported that VAARWEL overraced in the early and middle stages when pressured in the lead by AUDACIOUS SPIRIT (G. Colless). App Hull was of the opinion that this had contributed to the horse weakening over the final 200m. Trainer T. Edmonds later reported that he believed they went too hard in the early stages of the race and this took a toll on the horses ability to finish the race off. He added that given the circumstances he was not too disappointed with the effort of the gelding and would be continuing with its current preparation.
Race 7: Live Entertainment Every Saturday Benchmark 80 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Mr Slick 2nd – Newsnight 3rd – Catch The Light 4th – Go Kingpin
Approaching the 1000m STREETSON (D. Griffin) and FINN CLASS (J. Byrne) were placed in restricted room to the inside of CATCH THE LIGHT (G. Colless), which shifted in when not quite clear.
After passing the 1000m SHOW ME AN ACE (T. Treichel) became awkward at the heels of TROMBONE ALLEY (App T. Harrison) and shifted out. SHOW ME AN ACE then raced 3 wide from that point.
CATCH THE LIGHT was unable to secure clear running from the 400m until passing the 200m.
STREETSON hung in under pressure in the straight.
C. Whiteley reported that WHISPERING GAP was not suited by being pressured in the lead by TROMBONE ALLEY in the middle stages and failed to respond to his riding from the 300m. A post race veterinary examination of WHISPERING GAP revealed no significant findings.
Stewards sought an explanation from P. Hammersley regarding the performance of GO KINGPIN. P. Hammersley stated that GO KINGPIN was slow to begin and then was unable to muster any speed in the early stages despite it being hard ridden and as a result lost contact with the main body of the field. P. Hammersley added that GO KINGPIN was again ridden with vigour from the 600m and made steady ground in the home straight and in his opinion GO KINGPIN will be better suited in races over a further distance than today’s. Trainer L. Kelly advised stewards he will now be stepping up GO KINGPIN over longer distances than today’s event.
