POPSTAR PETE (T Harrison) was slow to begin.

App. A Hearn reported that ALLAMANDA LAD wanted to hang out for the majority of the event.

POPSTAR PETE over-raced during the middle stages of the event and near the 400m improved up onto the heels of RIVALISSA (A Pattillo) and had to be steadied.

Race 2: Lloyds Asset Services 2YO H’cap – 900m

FALONLEAH (A Pattillo) and PREFECT (J Letherby) made heavy contact on jumping away.

DELECTABLE DORA (D Tanti) jumped away awkwardly.

Race 3: Lloyds online 3YO Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Show Me The Gem 2nd – Hannibal Ad Portas 3rd – Slick Lago 4th – Mitessa

SHOW ME THE GEM (T Harrison) was tightened for room on jumping away between THAIDAY (L Rolls) and KEENINSKA (P Schmidt) which shifted out and as a result THAIDAY shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of HANNIBAL AD PORTAS (A Holt).

Near the 1300m SHOW ME THE GEM was tightened for room and had to be steadied when racing between SO SHARPLY (K Fujii) and THAIDAY which shifted in.

THAIDAY over-raced during the middle stages of the event.

SHOW ME THE GEM raced wide for the majority of the event and approaching the 700m was taken wider on the track when HANNIBAL AD PORTAS shifted out to improve.

KING OF FLORENCE (D Missen) raced wide for the majority of the event.

KEENINSKA had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn.

MESSNER (D Griffin) had difficulty obtaining clear running from a point rounding the home turn until leaving the 200m.

Jockey K Fujii (SO SHARPLY) dropped his whip leaving the 100m.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KEENINSKA, App. P Schmidt stated that her instructions were to obtain a sit with the horse in a handy position. However, after being caught wide in the early stages of the event, she elected to progress forward and obtain a position in the lead approaching the 1000m and when not challenged by other runners was left in the leading position. She further added that the filly commenced to hang out rounding the home turn and proved disappointing. Trainer K Fleming stated that he had instructed App. Schmidt to take up a position with cover just behind the speed as the filly had finished its races off well when racing in a similar position. Mr Fleming added that the inability to take up his intended position contributed to KEENINSKA’s failure to finish the race off as expected. Mr Fleming confirmed that he would issue similar instructions in the future.

Race 4: QLS Logistics Fillies and Mares Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Victoria Nile 2nd – Angry Apples 3rd – Harkaway Girl 4th – Recited

The start of this race was initially delayed as a result of DUCK’N’RUN (T Harrison) proving difficult to load. The start was further delayed when MUST BE THE ONE (D Tanti) and DUCK’N’RUN both became fractious in the barriers. Trainers M Thexton (MUST BE THE ONE) and H Page (DUCK’N’RUN) were advised that a warning would be placed on both horses regarding their barrier manners.

SPECIAL DIVOT (P Schmidt) was tightened on jumping away between DON’T CRY FOR ME (D Griffin) and DUCK’N’RUN which shifted out after beginning awkwardly.

VICTORIA NILE (D Robinson) shifted out at the start making contact with HARKAWAY GIRL (L Cheshire) which in turn made further contact with MUST BE THE ONE.

Approaching the 900m LOS ABRIGADOS (K Fujii) was crowded for room when racing to the inside of DON’T CRY FOR ME which shifted in and away from RECITED (D Green). As a result LOS ABRIGADOS then shifted out making contact with DON’T CRY FOR ME which in turn was forced out on to HARKAWAY GIRL.

CROSS THE STAR (R Jamieson) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TWENTY TWO RED which tired badly over the final 400m after leading, App. Harrison stated that it was the intentions to take a sit today with TWENTY TWO RED. However, after beginning well the horse over-raced when leading in the early and middle stages of the event and was under pressure approaching the 400m and proved most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer H Page expressed her disappointment in the gelding’s performance and advised that TWENTY TWO RED would now be retired. Nonetheless, Mrs Page was advised that should TWENTY TWO RED race again it would be required to complete in an official trial to Stewards’ satisfaction.

Stewards will interview trainer M Eggleston at a later date regarding the performance and future program for HERE COMES SAM.
