Race 1: Broadwater Southport Rotary Club Class 3 Plate – 1800m
1st – Dane Princess 2nd – Skate on By 3rd – Like a Gee Six 4th – Willhaveahundred

Trainer B Currie was fined the sum of $100 for the late rider notification of A Holt on LIKE A GEE SIX. Mr Currie was further reprimanded for not providing a letter of authority for his stable representative.

LIKE A GEE SIX (A Holt) began awkwardly.

QUASISTAR (A Pattillo) was slow to begin.

LIKE A GEE SIX raced ungenerously during the middle stages of the event.

Approaching the 600m DANE PRICESS (D Tanti) and SKATE ON BY (T Treichel) came together and bumped.

Stewards questioned App. A Holt regarding his handling of LIKE A GEE SIX rounding the home turn where SKATE ON BY was able to obtain a run to the inside of LIKE A GEE SIX. App. Holt explained that his instructions were not to lead on LIKE A GEE SIX and in the early stages of the event the horse resented being restrained and raced ungenerously and shifted ground. He stated that the horse continued to have that tendency to lay out approaching the home turn. Stewards noted his explanation.

A post-race veterinary examination of QUASISTAR which was uncompetitive revealed a laceration to its off fore heel resulting in the mare being lame. Trainer R Todd was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness must be produced before QUASISTAR again races.

Race 2: The MBA Partnership Fillies and Mares Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Modern Rose 2nd – La Bella Mermaid 3rd – All Misty 4th – Miss Warrego

MISS MCLEAN (L Rolls) knuckled over on jumping away.

Leaving the 600m LA BELLA MERMAID (A Pattillo) was disappointed for a run, where doubtful racing room existed, between ENCHANTEE (M Palmer) and MISS WARREGO (D Tanti) and as a result had to be steadied.

ENCHANTEE had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the straight.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MISS MCLEAN, Jockey L Rolls could offer no tangible explanation as the filly never travelled well at any stage throughout the event. Trainer S Morrisey was of the view that MISS MCLEAN knuckling over at the start was a contributing factor of its overall performance, however, did advise that he felt the filly did not run out the 1400m of today’s event and would be looking to place MISS MCLEAN in races of a shorter distance. A veterinary examination of MISS MCLEAN revealed a laceration to its near fore heel.

Race 3: The MBA Business Advisers Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Romeo’s Kiss 2nd – As We Go By 3rd – Pace Egg 4th – Cheyenne

CHEYENNE (JP Stanley) and NICE RED (R Jamieson) made contact on jumping away.

DANA PRINCE (D Green) was slow to begin.

DANA PRINCE raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of ROMEO’S KISS (M Palmer) today compared to its previous starts, Trainer R Todd stated that the horse has been somewhat difficult to train and of recent times she has significantly increased the workload of the stallion. Ms Todd further added that the increase in distance to 1400m was more suitable to ROMEO’S KISS today than its previous starts. Stewards noted her comments.

Race 4: Kenchi Lifestyle Gardens 2YO Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Eliminator 2nd – Craiglea Seal 3rd – Cold Collect 4th – Craiglea Opal

Trainer T Miller was reprimanded for presenting CRAIGLEA ELTON (D Tanti) to the enclosure with incorrect gear.

The start of this race was delayed as a result of CRAIGLEA OPAL (D Green) being fractious in the barriers.

CRAIGLEA CELICA (A Badger) was slow to begin.

CRAIGLEA OPAL began awkwardly.

ELIMINATOR (M Palmer) and CRAIGLEA ELTON (D Tanti) made contact on jumping away.

NYANDA CROSSING (JP Stanley) which began awkwardly was then tightened for room between CRAIGLEA ELTON and CRAIGLEA SEAL (T Treichel) which shifted in.

ELIMINATOR had a tendency to hang out for the majority of the event.

Approaching the 800m WITCHES WHICH (D Griffin) shifted out and bumped CRAIGLEA RUMBA (D Missen).

Leaving the 600m CRAIGLEA CELICA over-raced at the heels of ELIMINATOR for a short distance.

CRAIGLEA OPAL was examined by the veterinary surgeon following the race after blood was detected in the near side nostril of the filly. After examination the veterinary surgeon was of the view that the injury was caused by external trauma and recommended that no further action be taken in the matter.

Race 5: Mercury IT Class 2 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Havasnip 2nd – Mac’s Addiction 3rd – Red hot Hussler 4th – Karisha

HAVASNIP (D Griffin) and CHEW THE FAT (Matthew Palmer) made contact on jumping away.

KARISHA (G Killen) began awkwardly.

HAVASNIP and MAC’S ADDICTION (D Tanti) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 6: Bioscapes Fillies and Mares Class 1 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Playsova 2nd – Let’s Party 3rd – Like a Bird 4th – When My Baby

As there was no other apprentice rider available, Jockey Matthew Palmer replaced App. J Johnson (VAMPIRELLA) who was unable to arrive on course by the prescribed time due to a delay whilst riding at an interstate event.

LET’S PARTY (D Tanti) was slow to begin.

DEPASSE (D Griffin) commenced to buck shortly after the start. Trainer D Schmidt was advised that DEPASSE must trial satisfactorily on two occasions prior to the horse again racing. In deciding penalty Stewards were mindful that DEPASSE had performed in a similar manner on a previous occasion.

Approaching the 800m GORGEOUS GOLDIE (R Jamieson) improved up on to the heels of LIKE A BIRD (A Holt) and as a result had to be steadied and shifted wider on the track. GORGEOUS GOLDIE then raced wide for the remainder of the event.

JAMAICAN DANCER (JP Stanley) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Leaving the 300m I’M A SINGLE LADY (L Rolls) shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped LIKE A BIRD.

TOBORAIGH STAR (Michael Palmer) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

Race 7: SMO 10 Years Class 5 H’cap – 1300m
1st – Show Me An Ace 2nd – Doyadeal 3rd – So So Sure 4th – Reassemble

SHOW ME AN ACE (A Pattillo) and SOCARADA (L Rolls) began awkwardly.

SHOW ME AN ACE raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event.

Leaving the 900m SO SO SURE (R Jamieson) improved up on to the heels of LITTLE WHITE HORSE (T Treichel) and had to be steadied.

Near the 800m DOYADEAL (Matthew Palmer) shifted wider on the track and in doing so forced SOCARADA to a three wide position.
