Race 6 @ 4.27 p.m.
Race 7 @ 5.03 p.m.
Race 8 @ 5.37 p.m.
Race 1: Civil Contractors Federation QTIS 2YO Maiden SW Plate – 900m
1st – Solo Saga 2nd – Threescoreandten 3rd – Dragon Street 4th – Talk Tough
Due to a clerical error blinkers did not appear in the race book for SOLO SAGA. Stewards confirmed that trainer B. Laming had put in the appropriate gear application by the required time.
The start of race was delayed when COUNTESS SURPRISE reared in the mounting yard dislodging its rider D. Tanti. D. Tanti was examined by the ambulance officers and deemed unfit to fulfil his engagement on COUNTESS SURPRISE. As a result stewards approved L. Rolls as the replacement rider. Trainer R. Maund was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly regarding its pre race behaviour.
CHARLIE’S LASS (A. Pattillo) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 500m DRAGON STREET (S. Bogenhuber) had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by THREESCOREANDTEN (J.P. Stanley), which shifted in when not quite clear. A short distance later DRAGON STREET shifted out when racing greenly when insufficiently clear of SOLO SAGA (D. Missen), which resulted in SOLO SAGA having to be eased to avoid that runner’s heels. J.P. Stanley the rider of THREESCOREANDTEN was advised to provide greater clearance to his fellow riders when shifting ground in future. S. Bogenhuber the rider of DRAGON STREET was issued with a reprimand and advised to make a greater effort to prevent her mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Jan Pritchard trainer of CHARLIE'S LASS reported in days following the event that the filly was showing signs of being shin shore.
Race 2: Civil Train Fillies & Mares Maiden SW Plate – 1400m
1st – All Misty 2nd – Miss McLean 3rd – La Bella Mermaid 4th – Almasea
ALL MISTY (D. Missen) was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Connections were advised that an official warning would be placed on the mare’s pre race behaviour.
MISS MCLEAN (App B. Hodder) began very awkwardly and lost ground.
ALMASEA (D. Tanti) began awkwardly, shifted out and had to be steadied from the heels of LA BELLA MERMAID (D. Griffin).
ALMASEA overraced during the middle stages of the event.
Near the 400m JUGGLES (App R. Jamieson) made the turn awkwardly and shifted out slightly resulting in RAFAELA’S AIM (L. Rolls), which was weakening being taken out and making contact with the hind quarters of ALL MISTY. As a result of this incident ALL MISTY was turned in further tightening RAFAELA’S AIM, which as a result had to be checked.
Passing the 300m JUGGLES which was weakening shifted in making contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.
ALL MISTY raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.
Race 3: Coates Hire Class 5 H’Cap – 1100m
1st – Thefifthhole 2nd – Power Of Ed 3rd – Chipp’n Away 4th – Daneomite
DANEOMITE (L. Rolls) was inclined to lay out under pressure rounding the home turn.
Race 4: Oamps Insurance Brokers Benchmark 80 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Anagold 2nd – Santo De Lago 3rd – Strumming 4th – The Clandy Man Can
SANTO DE LAGO (A. Pattillo) was fractious in the barriers and jumped away awkwardly losing ground.
When the pace slowed after passing the 1300m SANTO DE LAGO commenced to overrace. This resulted in its rider shifting out to a 3 wide position from the rear of the field and improving forward to obtain the lead near the 1000m. As a result of SANTO DE LAGO shifting out near the 1200m SON OF BENNY (D. Tanti) was taken wider on the track for a short distance.
Rounding the home turn and under pressure in the home straight SANTO DE LAGO was inclined to lay out.
Race 5: Buss (Q) Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden SW Plate – 1400m
1st – Pace Egg 2nd – Winnaspinna 3rd – Riccoso 4th – You’re Serious
Acting on a report from the farrier that DANA PRINCE was presented on course with plates that were unsatisfactory on both hind legs stewards interviewed trainer W. King prior to Race 4 together with Mr Langdon the Club’s farrier. On the evidence it was established that DANA PRINCE was unable to be reshod due to its fractious behaviour in the horse stall area. After taking advice from the Club’s farrier and in consultation with App A. Holt the rider of the gelding acting under the provisions of AR141A(1) stewards permitted the horse to start bare foot behind. Subsequently trainer W. King was fined the sum of $500.00.
DANA PRINCE (App A. Holt) was slow to begin.
RICCOSO (Michael Palmer) began awkwardly.
PACE EGG (A. Pattillo) overraced during the early stages of the event.
DANA PRINCE commenced to hang in from a point near the 800m.
Near the 800m BALTORO (App R. Jamieson) shifted in making contact with AS WE GO BY (L. Rolls).
Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for L. Rolls (AS WE GO BY), D. Griffin (ELKALATO) and D. Tanti (ROMEO LAD) all being dislodged near the 600m. Evidence was taken from App A. Holt (DANA PRINCE), A. Spinks (REIGNING MAGIC), Michael Palmer (RICCOSO), App B. Hodder (WINNASPINNA), C. Whiteley (YOU’RE SERIOUS) and App R. Jamieson (BALTORO). This inquiry was adjourned until a date and time to be fixed to allow the fallen riders to be present. In this incident WINNASPINNA, YOU’RE SERIOUS, BALTORO and REIGNING MAGIC were all checked to varying degrees to avoid the fallen horses and riders. Riders D. Griffin, D. Tanti and L. Rolls were transported to the Gold Coast Hospital and Pindara Hospital for further observations and medical treatment.
App A. Holt the rider of DANA PRINCE reported at scale that his horse did not feel comfortable in its action throughout the race. A post race veterinary examination of DANA PRINCE revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer W. King was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be provided prior to DANA PRINCE again racing.
Post race veterinary examinations of ROMEO LAD and ELKALATO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities other than both runners sustaining superficial lacerations.
Trainer J. Wallace advised stewards that AS WE GO BY had sustained a small laceration to the gelding’s mouth.
Race 6: Dial Before You Dig Fillies & Mares Class 1 WR 0.5kg H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Write Cheek 2nd – Indecision 3rd – Dame Judarius 4th – Deva Denz
Trainer B. Ahrens advised GYPSY’S REVENGE would be ridden in a position worse than midfield with cover today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
GYPSY’S REVENGE (J.P. Stanley) jumped away awkwardly and soon after the start when being restrained shifted in and became awkward at the heels of DEVA DENZ (App M. McKenzie).
Approaching the 800m COUGAR FISH (Michael Palmer) when overracing had to shift out to avoid the heels of DIAPHYSIS (A. Spinks).
Near the 800m DEVA DENZ shifted out slightly resulting in AUSSIE GAL (App R. Jamieson) being taken out onto ALWAYS DREAMIN’ (E. Kehoe).
GYPSY’S REVENGE was unable to secure clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m.
COUGAR FISH had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight until approaching the 100m.
A post race veterinary examination of PERFECT CUBE revealed no significant findings.
On returning to scale when dismounting AUSSIE GAL in the saddling enclosure, App R. Jamieson was kicked by another runner and was examined by the ambulance officers and was subsequently passed fit to fulfil her remaining engagements.
Race 7: Boral Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Cheval Du Feu 2nd – Uppland 3rd – Popstar Pete 4th – Soul Crusade
MORE THAN WILLING (E. Kehoe) was slow to begin.
CEE THE DRAGON (J.P. Stanley) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
POPSTAR PETE (App B. Hodder) raced ungenerously when being restrained in the early stages of the event.
Near the 1000m GENERAL BAXTER (App J.K. Johnson) and CHEVAL DU FEU (A. Pattillo) were both steadied when tightened for room when racing to the inside of TORERO (T. Treichel), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. T. Treichel the rider of TORERO was severely reprimanded for careless riding and advised that in future he must ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
MCNEICE (Michael Palmer) overraced and was continually steadied off the heels of TORERO (T. Treichel) between the 800m and 600m.
Near the 450m TORERO was eased when tightened for room by UPPLAND (App C. Schmidt), which shifted in. MCNEICE and SOUL CRUSADE (App A. Holt) which were following TORERO were both steadied as a consequence.
POPSTAR PETE raced wide throughout the event.
Race 8: Led Super Screens Class 2 WR 1.5kg H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Default 2nd – Kistamon 3rd – Go The Blaze 4th – Ellythea
As P. Holmes was indisposed due to illness stewards permitted T. Treichel to be substituted as the rider of ELLYTHEA.
Prior to correct weight being declared trainer B. Guy made application for his runner LASSILA to be declared a non-runner on the grounds of being denied a fair start in that the barrier attendant still had hold of its head as the start was effected. After taking evidence and viewing the patrol films it was established that LASSILA was fractious in the barriers and a barrier attendant had hold of its head to assist and when the start was effected LASSILA reared of its own accord and lost considerable ground. Acting under the provisions of AR134A stewards were not comfortably satisfied that the barrier attendant assisting LASSILA had materially prejudiced the chances of the horse and therefore denied Mr Guy’s application and declared LASSILA a runner.
NEW RANGER (E. Kehoe) was slow to begin.
After passing the 1000m BRIGADOON EXPRESS (Michael Palmer) commenced to overrace and had to be steadied from the heels of WITCHES LIPS (C. Whiteley) near the 900m.
Near the 900m NEW RANGER when overracing shifted out slightly which resulted in COCO DUBAWI (J.P. Stanley) being tightened for room.
Near the 500m DELMONICO (A. Spinks) had to be eased when tightened for room between LASSILA, which was inclined to hang in and GO THE BLAZE (Matthew Palmer), which shifted out slightly to improve.
Near the 100m FLINDERS ROCK (A. Pattillo) was inconvenienced when KISTAMON (App M. McKenzie) shifted out. App M. McKenzie the rider of KISTAMON was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
LASSILA raced 3 wide throughout the event.
