SUPPLEMENTARY:

As B. Shinn was indisposed stewards permitted rider replacements as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Stewards inquired into the circumstances surrounding the scratching of ASSAIL this morning on veterinary advice due to lameness in the near fore foot. The filly was inspected yesterday afternoon by the RQL Chief Veterinary Surgeon Mr Martin Lenz in the presence of Senior Steward Mr John Hackett and trainer Mr C Connors and found to be suitable to race. Trainer C. Connors informed stewards that when the filly was brought from its box this morning he noted that it was exhibiting soreness in the near fore foot and he sought veterinary advice from Dr Charlie McCormack. Dr McCormack informed stewards the horse was lame in the near fore foot which he attributed to the onset of an abscess. Their explanations were noted.

Race 1: Surfers Paradise Marriot Resort And Spa Magic Millions Maiden 3YO & Up SW Plate – 1200m
1st – Danrho 2nd – Gallinari 3rd – Night Chills 4th – Crashing

Prior to the start INSPURATIONAL was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.

ARTALO (D. Dunn) stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer R. Lipp was advised that ARTALO must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again.

BULL SHARK (M. Rodd) stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground. Trainer J. Morrisey was advised that a warning would be placed on BULL SHARK.

Soon after the start ROYAL JESTER commenced to buck dislodging its rider D. Browne. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that ROYAL JESTER must compete in an official barrier trial prior to racing again.

A short distance after the start NIGHT CHILLS (J. Byrne) shifted in making heavy contact with CRASHING (P. Hammersley).

Approaching the 300m GALLINARI (L. Cassidy) shifted out to improve taking ROSE OF CLARE (T. Berry) out onto CRASHING, which had to be momentarily tightened.

Approaching the 300m when placed under pressure TIGER JET (R. Wiggins) raced greenly, shifted out and had to be steadied from the heels of ROSE OF CLARE. TIGER JET continued to race greenly under pressure in the home straight.

Near the 250m the riderless ROYAL JESTER shifted in forcing GALLINARI in onto FLAME FIGHTER (Michael Palmer). ROYAL JESTER continued to shift in and approaching the 100m severely tightened the running of DANRHO (H. Bowman), resulting in that horse having to be checked. GIANT CRUSHER (J. McDonald) which was trailing DANRHO had to be steadied as a consequence.

FLAME FIGHTER, SUMMERS ON THE RUN (T. Bell) and INSPURATIONAL (Matthew Palmer) all raced wide throughout the event.

G. Colless reported that HIALEAH JET did not begin well however travelled comfortably in the middle stages but then failed to respond to his riding from rounding the home turn. G. Colless added that HIALEAH JET was making an abnormal respiratory noise. A post race veterinary examination of HIALEAH JET revealed no abnormality. Trainer A. Bailey undertook to have an endoscopic examination performed on the horse and to provide the results to stewards prior to its next race start.

A post race veterinary examination of INSPURATIONAL revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer L. Lawler will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be provided prior to INSPURATIONAL again racing.

1st – Kinnersley 2nd – Anagold 3rd – Bid Spotter 4th – What Happenedhenry

Approaching the first turn TAI TAI TESS (D. Dunn) shifted in and made contact with MASTER AVATAR (J. McDonald), which as a result shifted in and bumped EQUISSENTIAL (J. Byrne). Following this incident TAI TAI TESS made the turn at the 1400m awkwardly and shifted out and when corrected by its rider shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of D. Dunn resulting in PEPPERWOOD (L. Cassidy) being checked, clipping the heels of TAI TAI TESS and blundering. Stewards were satisfied that D. Dunn the rider of TAI TAI TESS had not exhibited any carelessness in his riding in this incident.

Approaching the 600m KINNERSLEY (T. Berry) when endeavouring to improve and shift PLAYACTION (J. Taylor) wider on the track, became awkward at the heels of WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (G. Colless) when PLAYACTION held its line of running.

A post race veterinary examination of PLAYACTION, which compounded badly in the home straight, revealed the gelding to have a slower than normal recovery rate.

Stewards sought an explanation from C. Newitt regarding the tactics adopted and the overall performance of NOISY OCEAN. C. Newitt stated that he was instructed to ride the horse positively and endeavour to obtain a position just behind the speed however, running to the first turn he was trapped wide on the track and was obliged to ride NOISY OCEAN forward and take a position outside the leader. He added that NOISY OCEAN settled well and travelled nicely however, when pressured only accelerated for a short distance before tiring. Trainer B. Guy confirmed the instructions and felt the need for C. Newitt to pressure NOISY OCEAN in the early stages in order to cross runners to his inside had an affect on the horse’s capacity to finish the race off. A post race veterinary examination of NOISY OCEAN revealed no abnormalities.

After passing the 100m MOSSE DIVA had to be steadied from the heels of PURE REALITY and was obliged to alter course.

LUCKY HUSSLER, PLATINUM STATE, HOSS AMOR (J. McDonald) and SIZZLING all raced wide throughout the event.

Trainer R. Hore-Lacy expressed his disappointment in the performance of CLEVADUDE advising stewards that the horse sweated up quite badly in the lead up to the event which is unusual for the gelding and added that at the horse’s two previous starts it has been able to lead and dictate terms.
