CHIPP’N AWAY (J. Morris) began awkwardly resulting in the horse losing valuable ground.
HEART OF MELBOURNE (C. Whiteley) was slow to begin.
FLORIDA FELLOW (App J.K. Johnson) and ERVBEFEL (Michael Palmer) both raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: Prime Minister’s Cup Dining – Book Now Maiden SW Plate – 2200m
1st – Prize 2nd – Sir Scissors 3rd – King Of Florence 4th – Maximum Cash
KING OF FLORENCE (D. Missen) was slow to begin.
XENA EXPRESS (K. Wharton) and MAXIMUM CASH (C. Small) both overraced during the early stages of the event.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BADBOYCURTIS jockey A. Pattillo stated that the horse did not travel well and failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities. Trainer B. Mahon confirmed his disappointment with the horse’s performance and undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality that comes to light that may have affected the performance of BADBOYCURTIS.
Race 3: Ken Russell Memorial Golf Day 5 June Class 2 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Mansfield Park 2nd – General Explorer 3rd – Hebron Road 4th – Here’s Roger
CASHGAH (A. Pattillo) jumped out at the start making contact with HEBRON ROAD (T. Treichel), forcing that horse out onto GENERAL EXPLORER (App C. Schmidt), which in turn made contact with HUSH POWER (L. Rolls), which was initially slow to begin.
MANSFIELD PARK (J. Morris) and SHARMA (K. Wharton) were both inclined to overrace in the early stages of the event.
Race 4: Troy O’Keefe Accounting Maiden H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Dazzling Display 2nd – Nordic Jet 3rd – Gangsta George 4th – Enchantee
Trainer M. Eggleston was fined the sum of $200.00 for the late declaration of App B. Appo as the rider of NORDIC JET. In deciding penalty stewards took into account Mr Eggleston’s poor record of late in relation to this offence.
SO SHARPLY (B. Looker) was slow to begin.
HI CODY (C. Whiteley) and MISS CAPE CROSS (K. Wharton) came together and bumped on a number of occasions for some distance after the start.
NORDIC JET (App B. Appo) raced ungenerously for a short distance leaving the 800m and as a result near the 700m shifted out across the heels of ENCHANTEE (C. Small) resulting in the horse racing wide for the remainder of the event.
ENCHANTEE was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
SHARP BLADE (App J.K. Johnson) was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the straight.
SAVONYX (L. Rolls) raced wide before yielding ground from the 600m. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from heart arrhythmia. Trainer J. Morrisey was advised that he must produce the results of an ECG and SAVONYX must compete in an official barrier trial before again racing.
Race 5: Battle Of The Coral Sea Cup QTIS 3YO WR 2KG H’Cap – 1100m
1st – Star Sammy 2nd – Eye Winsome 3rd – Perfect Glory 4th – Robert’s Command
BRILLIANT ROSE was declared a late scratching at 8.05 a.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice.
ROCCO IN THE HOUSE was declared a late scratching at 8.28 a.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice.
Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey S. Sheargold (HERE’S TO YA) the opportunity to view the start of the race for consideration as to whether he was denied a fair start. After reviewing the official film and being advised of the requirements of the Rules in relation to being denied a fair start S. Sheargold advised he did not wish to proceed with the matter and correct weight was given on the numbers as semaphored.
HERE’S TO YA (S. Sheargold) which was fractious in the barriers was slow to begin.
EYE WINSOME (D. Missen) which was initially slow to begin was then crowded for room between PERFECT GLORY (A. Pattillo) and MAFIA PRINCESS (K. Wharton), which shifted in.
STAR SAMMY (App S. Payne) began awkwardly.
Near the 500m PERFECT GLORY was crowded for room and had to be steadied when racing between ROBERT’S COMMAND (Michael Palmer) and AGENT AL (App C. Schmidt), which shifted in.
AGENT AL and STAR SAMMY both raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 6: Fred And Swift Treweeke Memorial Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Stolen Kisses 2nd – Spontaneity 3rd – Miss Smoke 4th – One Tough Babe
Correct weight was delayed to enable K. Wharton the rider of SPONTANEITY which finished second to view the official film to see whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner STOLEN KISSES (App J.K. Johnson) over an incident at the 900m. After viewing the film K. Wharton did not wish to proceed and correct weight was given.
The start of this race was delayed as a result of ALL MISTY (M. Speers) proving difficult to load.
MODERN ROSE (L. Rolls) began awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with MINONDER (App A. Taylor), which in turn shifted out and bumped ALL MISTY. As a result MINONDER was then slow into stride.
ONE TOUGH BABE (App B. Appo) was slow to begin.
Near the 900m SPONTANEITY (K. Wharton) was crowded for room by STOLEN KISSES, which shifted in.
MODERN ROSE was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until near the 200m.
App S. Payne the rider of MISS SMOKE was fined the sum of $100.00 for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.
MISS SMOKE raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 7: Maree Fitz 60th Invitational Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Final Impression 2nd – True Red 3rd – Tigerprint 4th –Destars
The start of this race was delayed as a result of POLAR BLITZ (Michael Palmer) proving difficult to load.
FINE GOLD (App J.K. Johnson) was slow to begin.
Rounding the home turn IN MEMORIAM (B. Looker) was held up on the heels of TIGERPRINT (D. Green) and as a result had to alter course.
TRUE RED (L. Rolls) hung in under pressure in the straight resulting in its rider being unable to fully test the gelding.
Approaching the 200m IN MEMORIAM was crowded for room when racing between FINE GOLD and FINAL IMPRESSION (App B. Appo), which shifted out to improve.
FINE GOLD raced wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding of DESTARS (D. Missen) over the final 600m. After taking some evidence from D. Missen the inquiry was adjourned until a date and time to be fixed.
Race 8: Happy Punting Class 3 H’Cap – 1300m
1st – Baton Twirler 2nd – Purringa 3rd – My Shabella 4th – Like A Gee Six
As M. Speers was overweight stewards permitted S. Sheargold to be substituted as the rider of I AM BUT A FOOL. M. Speers was subsequently fined the sum of $100.00.
BILLY JAY (L. Rolls) and LA BELLA MERMAID (App J.K. Johnson) were both crowded for room on jumping away between LIKE A GEE SIX (App B. Appo) and MY SHABELLA (T. Treichel), which shifted in.
Near the 1100m ROYAL CONSORT (App S. Payne) and BATON TWIRLER (Michael Palmer) were both crowded for room when racing to the inside ALBERT’S CHOICE (J. Morris), which shifted in. J. Morris the rider of ALBERT’S CHOICE was advised to exercise more care in similar situations. J. Morris was also cautioned for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
ROYAL CONSORT shifted out under pressure in the straight.
