SUPPLEMENTARY:
Stewards today inquired into the behaviour of App. J Grob under the terms of his apprenticeship. After hearing evidence from App. J Grob in the presence of his parents, his Master, Trainer D Kelly and Racing Queensland Training and Recruitment Officer, Mr L Maund, App. Grob pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(gg) in that he made misleading statements to the Training Department and Stewards as to his whereabouts between 20 May and 22 May 2013 during which time he was stood down from duties. In considering all of the circumstances Stewards directed App. Grob to return to his employment under Trainer D Kelly and further that his licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 calendar weeks effective immediately.
As App. A Holt was indisposed through illness, Stewards permitted rider replacements as per Stewards Race Day Summary.
As Jockey A Pattillo was stood down by the club doctor after the running of race 5, Stewards permitted rider replacements as per Stewards Race Day summary.
Race 1: Hygrain Feeds Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Who’s That Cat 2nd – Hollywood Bound 3rd – Naga Viper 4th – Cashorio
NAGA VIPER (T Treichel) jumped in at the start making heavy contact with CASHORIO (C Whiteley).
Leaving the 600m CASHORIO had to be steadied when tightened for room by WHO’S THAT CAT (B Appo) which shifted in. App. B Appo was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
Race 2: Barrier Reef Pools 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Regal Tier 2nd – Miss Fifi 3rd – Lovethenightlife 4th – The Ippy Jet
MISS FIFI (J Morris) began awkwardly and shifted out inconveniencing TYJAX (M Speers) which was forced wider on the track.
Leaving the 900m THE IPPY JET (A Pattillo) had to be steadied when tightened for room when racing between LOVETHENIGHTLIFE (B Appo) and REGAL TIER (D Missen) which shifted in. TYJAX which was following was also steadied in this incident. Jockey D Missen the rider of REGAL TIER was advised to show greater care when shifting ground in future.
Approaching the 850m LOVETHENIGHTLIFE had to be steadied off the heels of REGAL TIER when the pace steadied at that point.
Rounding the home turn MISS FIFI shifted out forcing TYJAX wider on the track.
Jockey M Speers the rider of TYJAX reported that the gelding raced greenly for the majority of the race.
Race 3: LJ Hooker Nerang 2yo Maiden H’cap – 900m
1st – Titanomagnetite 2nd – Hysterical Miss 3rd – I Doubt I Can 4th – That’s Pops
MYBOYMAURIE (L Rolls), I DOUBT I CAN (P Schmidt) and JITTERBUG (T Treichel) were slow to begin.
TITANOMAGNETITE (A Pattillo) shifted out at the start forcing HYSTERICAL MISS (C Whiteley) wider on the track.
Leaving the 800m MYBOYMAURIE shifted out bumping JITTERBUG.
Approaching the 100m THREESCOREANDTEN shifted in under pressure making contact with the running rail.
Race 4: Daniel Meers 10 Year Member Maiden Plate – 2200m
1st – Leica Pegasus 2nd – Gangsta George 3rd – Al Jaamih 4th – Hot Bickies
LIFEGUARD (B Appo) was slow to begin.
GANGSTA GEORGE (B Wallace) which began awkwardly, jumped in at the start making contact with CRUSADER RABBIT (Michael Palmer).
Near the 200m LEICA PEGASUS (T Wolfgram) had to be momentarily steadied when crowded for room by GANGSTA GEORGE which shifted in. App. B Wallace rider of GANGSTA GEORGE was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
Race 5: Midway Metals Class 2 H’cap – 1800m
1st – All Coin 2nd – Big Wheels 3rd – Irishlady Millions 4th – Veralini
LA BELLA MERMAID (Michael Palmer) and VERALINI (D Missen) were slow to begin.
TALENT CODE (T Treichel) commenced to over-race approaching the 1600m and shifted out a short distance later becoming awkward on the heels of THE CAPTAIN’S WIFE (P Schmidt) clipping that runner’s heels and blundering. TALENT CODE then continued to over-race for the majority of the race.
UNTOWARD (R Jamieson) made the 1600m crossing awkwardly.
Race 6: McGrath Realty Broadbeach Class 4 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Pretty Gully 2nd – Witches wonder 3rd – Little White Horse 4th – Shamrock Slipper
When questioned as to the seemingly disappointing performance of SHAMROCK SLIPPER, App. K Matheson stated that in his opinion the horse was not comfortable in today’s heavy track conditions and noting that it was the filly’s first start over 1200m together with today’s weight imposed was a telling factor with the filly’s performance. Stewards noted his explanation.
Rider J Morris reported that TOYHERO was not entirely comfortable in today’s heavy conditions and as a result he did not place the horse under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.
Race 7: Lend Lease Benchmark 85 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Mr Slick 2nd – Crazy Mamma 3rd – Whispering Gap 4th – Horoscopes
As there was no senior rider available, Stewards permitted App. T Wolfgram to replace Jockey A Pattillo on WHISPERING GAP.
SHABANA (C Whiteley) was slow to begin.
BEEBY GEM (Michael Palmer) jumped out at the start making contact with WHISPERING GAP (T Wolfgram).
Approaching the 400m HOROSCOPES (L Rolls) improved on to the heels of CRAZY MAMMA (K Matheson) and had to be steadied.
When questioned regarding the performance of HOROSCOPES, Jockey L Rolls stated that after being restrained when improving onto heels near the 400m HOROSCOPES was unable to accelerate and take a run between CRAZY MAMMA and MR SLICK (T Treichel) leaving the 300m and again had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between those runners a short distance later when that run closed. He further explained that he had to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running where the horse worked to the line well. His explanation was noted.
When questioned regarding the performance of BEEBY GEM which compounded in the home straight, Jockey Michael Palmer was at a loss to explain the mare’s performance as he felt the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages however failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. Stable representative Mr J Page stated that he was very disappointed with the mare’s performance and was at a loss to explain the performance other than being its second run on a heavy track may have taken its toll. He gave a further undertaking to report to stewards should anything come to his attention in the near future that may have had a bearing on the mare’s performance today. A post-race veterinary examination of BEEBY GEM revealed the mare to be showing signs of having a hard run and a slow recovery rate.
Race 8: Nikki Dempster’s 24th Birthday Class 1 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Hard Ticker 2nd – Trees a Crowd 3rd – Classic Kitten 4th – Golden Touch
JUNDAH JACK (R Jamieson) was tightened for room at the start between TREES A CROWD (Michael Palmer) and OUR EDGE (T Treichel) both of which shifted ground.
A short distance after the start DAZZLING DISPLAY (M Speers) which was inclined to hang in had to be restrained from the heels of ISIS FLYER (M McKenzie) which shifted out slightly.
Jockey J Morris (CLASSIC KITTEN) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 950m when insufficiently clear of SWITCH ON (K Matheson) which had to be restrained and shift in to avoid that runner’s heels and in doing so tightened the running of GOLDEN TOUCH (T Jeffries) causing that horse to be checked and lose its position. Jockey J Morris was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 meetings to commence midnight 08/06/2013 and to expire midnight 19/06/2013. Jockey J Morris was severely admonished in regard to his conduct during this inquiry and advised that a repetition of his behaviour would lead to possible further action being taken by the Stewards.
TREES A CROWD and DAZZLING DISPLAY raced ungenerously in the middle stages of the event.
Rounding the home turn and for a short distance entering the straight SWITCH ON was held up for clear running.
JUNDAH JACK was inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight.
