ABSOLUTE MUSIC (M Palmer) which began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with HIDE THE ACE (S Drake).
JACKY LEGS (T Wolfgram) and BLACKWOOD AVENUE (D Green) bumped on jumping away and shortly after the start JACKY LEGS shifted in making contact with GOTTA CHANCE (M McGuren) which began awkwardly.
Approaching the 1000m ALMASEA (S Fawke) had to be steadied when tightened for room between OUR JUDICIARY (K Yoshida) and JACKY LEGS which shifted in. Jockey T Wolfgram (JACKY LEGS) was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances in future.

ABSOLUTE MAGIC which was following had to be steadied as a consequence. Jockey S Drake (HIDE THE ACE) was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances in future.
Jockey J Letherby (STUCK WITH A FINE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out in order to improve near the 450m resulting in GOTTA CHANCE having to be checked and lose ground when tightened for room between OUR JUDICIARY and STUCK WITH A FINE. Jockey Letherby was suspended from riding in races for a period of 5 meetings to commence midnight 17/08/2013 and to expire midnight 25/08/2013. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful of Jockey Letherby’s exceptional record with regard to careless riding incidents.
Jockey M McGuren (GOTTA CHANCE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 400m he directed his mount to the outside of OUR JUDICIARY resulting in ABSOLUTE MUSIC having to be checked when tightened for room between LIVINGSTON (D Green) and GOTTA CHANCE. As a consequence ABSOLUTE MUSIC clipped the heels of LIVINGSTON and became severely unbalanced and lost ground resulting in LIVINGSTON also becoming unbalanced at that point of the race. Jockey M McGuren was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 meetings to commence midnight 14/08/2013 and to expire midnight 27/08/2013.
Jockey T Treichel (HORA SEXTA) dropped his whip near the 400m.
Approaching the 100m ALMASEA shifted in under pressure and inconvenienced HIDE THE ACE.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on HORA SEXTA which led today in contrast to its recent starts, Jockey T Treichel stated that he was instructed to ride the gelding out of the barriers in an effort to take up a forward position. Trainer P Robbins confirmed the instructions and added that he had issued the same instructions at the gelding’s previous two starts, however, HORA SEXTA had been unable to muster the necessary speed on those occasions so as to comply with his instructions. Whilst noting the explanation, Stewards reminded Mr Robbins of his obligations to advise them of any intended change of tactics.
Jockey M McGuren reported that it was his intention to take up a handy position on GOTTA CHANCE, however, after beginning awkwardly and receiving interference shortly after the start he was obliged to race further back in the field than he anticipated. A post-race veterinary examination of GOTTA CHANCE failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.
A post-race veterinary examination of JACKY LEGS failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.
Race 2: Sky – Number 1 In Racing 3YO Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Fastnet Cove 2nd – Puff’s Girl 3rd – Screaming Jet 4th – Scrat
Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey A Pattillo the rider of SCREAMING JET which finished 3rd against PUFF’S GIRL (R Ride) being declared the 2nd placegetter on the grounds of interference over the final 400m. On the evidence it was established that PUFF’S GIRL was inclined to shift out under pressure in the home straight resulting in SCREAMING JET being inconvenienced near the 300m and then marginally inconvenienced near the 100m. However, bearing in mind the official margin of a long neck, Stewards could not be satisfied that the minor inconvenience suffered by SCREAMING JET warranted a reversal of the placings and subsequently dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.
ART OF PURFECTION (L Cheshire) and SIR MICK (K Yoshida) were slow to begin.
SCREAMING JET and LIGHTNING ARTIST (S Shield) raced wide throughout the event.
ROMAN SILVER (J Letherby) and PUFF’S GIRL hung out rounding the home turn.

Trainer C Cousins was advised that SIR MICK would now be retired from his stable.

Near the 200m SHEEDA GAL was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of WOLFSBURG.
When questioned as to the performance of WOLFSBURG, Jockey S Shield stated that he had expected a forward showing based upon the mare’s work leading into today’s race and as such was disappointed in its performance, despite racing three wide for the majority of the race. Jockey Shield added that WOLFSBURG raced greenly when under pressure in the home straight and shifted in abruptly near the 200m. Trainer C O’Neill agreed with the comments of Jockey Shield and was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of WOLFSBURG. Ms O’Neill undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in the coming days that may explain the mare’s disappointing performance.
When questioned as to the performance of PEZENAS, Trainer M Webb stated that he had instructed App. Richardson to settle the gelding in a handy position from the awkward barrier. Mr Webb added that after being slow to begin PEZENAS failed to muster the necessary speed so as to comply with his instructions. Mr Webb indicated that he would attempt to step PEZENAS up in distance at its next start where his intention will be to have the gelding ridden in a similar manner as today. His explanation was noted.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the tactics adopted on LUSKIN SKY, particularly the reason why Jockey K Forrester permitted LUSKIN SKY to shift back in behind HIDDEN ROCK (K Yoshida) near the 300m after obtaining clear running to the outside of that runner earlier in the home straight. After taking initial evidence from Jockey Forrester and Trainer L Kelly, the inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed so as to allow stewards to examine LUSKIN SKY’s previous races and the betting activities on the race. A post-race veterinary examination of LUSKIN SKY failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

Jockey T Treichel and Trainer B Hill stated that LASTING IMAGE was having its first start for his stable and had been advised that the gelding performs best when able to lead. Mr Hill stated that LASTING IMAGE was obliged to race wide for the majority of the race when unable to obtain the lead and was of the view that this contributed to the gelding’s disappointing performance. Mr Hill also stated that LASTING IMAGE had trialled well leading into today’s event and undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light over the coming days that may explain the gelding’s poor performance.
