Race 1: Healthy Lifestyle Clinic Maiden H’cap – 900m
1st – The Black Superman 2nd – Wehrman 3rd – Zalated 4th – Awesome Sight

THE BLACK SUPERMAN (M Speers), HARADA MOON (B Appo), GODS GIFT TO WOMEN (T Treichel) and CHOISIR BREEZE (T Wolfgram) were slow to begin.

CHOISIR BREEZE hung out rounding the home turn forcing LUSHAROONIE (C Small) and JUSTMYIMAGINATION (M Palmer) to make the home turn extremely wide.

JACKY LEGS (S Sheargold) hung out rounding the home turn which enabled THE BLACK SUPERMAN to improve to its inside at that point of the race.

App. Richardson’s (WEHRMAN) whip broke in half leaving the 200m which prevented her from using her whip over the concluding stages.

Approaching the 200m HARADA MOON shifted out under pressure and inconvenienced GODS GIFT TO WOMEN.

App. B Appo (HARADA MOON) dropped his whip near the 100m.

Race 2: Anthony Delaney Lawyers Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – Rocking Empire 2nd – Our Editor 3rd – Sequajake 4th – Irresistible Me

The start was delayed when DUSTAL (A Pattillo) which was fractious in the barriers had to be removed and examined by the veterinary surgeon. The mare was subsequently cleared to take its place in the race.

DUSTAL was bumped on jumping away between RHODRY (J Orman) and SEQUAJAKE (B Appo) both of which shifted ground.

OUR EDITOR (T Jeffries) began awkwardly and shifted in and bumped SAINT WAYNE (T Treichel) which in turn bumped ALL HOST (T Wolfgram).

SAINT WAYNE was hampered for some distance passing the 800m when forced to race in restricted room between ALL HOST and OUR EDITOR.

EXCEPTIONAL HONOUR (P Timbery) blundered of its own accord near the 300m.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on ROCKING EMPIRE, Jockey J Morris stated that he was instructed to take up a position behind the speed. He added that in order to comply with these instructions he was required to pressure ROCKING EMPIRE in the early stages to cross the runners to his inside at which point he found himself in a leading position where he was content to allow the gelding to travel. Stewards noted his explanation.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on SEQUAJAKE particularly in the early stages of the event where there appeared to be an opportunity to maintain a position racing to the outside of IRRESISTIBLE ME, App. B Appo stated that he was instructed to take up a mid-field position and was of the view that he was going to be caught wide in the early stages so elected to restrain the gelding to take up a position close to the rail. App. Appo added that despite this he was unable to obtain cover and raced wide for the majority of the race. App. Appo agreed with stewards that in hindsight he would have been better off maintaining his position to the outside of IRRESISTIBLE ME which would have enabled him to obtain a handy position one off the fence in the middle stages of the event.

App. B Richardson (IRRESISTIBLE ME) was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts to the finish of the race.

It was reported that IRRESISTIBLE ME lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 3: Men of Business Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – Duke’s Charm 2nd – Real Dynamite 3rd – Eliazar 4th – Onlines

KENTUCKY BOMBER (T Wolfgram) was slow to begin.

ELIAZAR (B Richardson) began awkwardly.

LAKI LAKI (S Fawke) was inclined to lay in across the heels of ONLINES (T Treichel) in the early stages of the event.

Near the 700m REAL DYNAMITE (K Yoshida) was tightened for room between FRED’S GIRL (M Palmer) and ELIAZAR (B Richardson) which shifted in. App. B Richardson was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances in future.

WORLD SERIES (B Abbey) raced wide throughout the event.

Rounding the home turn KENTUCKY BOMBER was steadied from the heels of LAKI LAKI.

App. B Richardson reported that ELIAZAR raced greenly in the middle stages of the event and as a result had difficulty holding its position at that point of the race. App. Richardson added that once balanced upon straightening the gelding finished the race off well and in her opinion would benefit racing over further distance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of DUKE’S CHARM, Trainer S Morrisey’s stable representative stated that instructions at its previous starts were to take up a forward position however after being slow to begin on those occasions raced further back than anticipated. The stable added that DUKE’S CHARM had worked well leading into its first up start and again leading in to today and expressed their disappointment in its previous start where it failed to muster any speed despite the efforts of the apprentice rider on that occasion. The stable was of the view that with the addition of blinkers and a senior rider, the gelding began well and therefore was able to take up its intended position in running, factors which they felt contributed to the improved performance today. Stewards noted the explanation however advised the stable that they would expect performances consistent with today in future.

When questioned regarding the performance of MISS CANNYBLU which raced below market expectations, App. B Appo stated that the mare races best when able to lead. He added that from the wide alley today he was required to pressure the mare to take up a handy position, however it commenced to weaken at a point leaving the 400m and proved disappointing. Trainer M Lakey reported that MISS CANNYBLU had bled from the near side nostril. Stewards advised Mr Lakey that the mare will be required to gallop 1000m to Stewards’ satisfaction prior to its next race start.

Race 4: Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation 3YO Maiden H’cap – 1300m
1st – Heart Stealer 2nd – Evocative 3rd – Marginalize 4th – Easy to Smile

MARGINALIZE (B Appo) was slow to begin.

DUKE CELESTE (M Speers) was tightened for room on jumping between HAVEN CANDY (K Yoshida) and GALLERY OF STARS (E Kehoe) both of which shifted ground.

HAVEN CANDY raced wide throughout the event.

Near the 400m EASY TO SMILE (T Treichel) improved onto the heels of HUSSASIN (Michael Palmer) which was weakening.

When questioned regarding the poor performance of HUSSASIN which yielded ground and finished at the rear of the field, Trainer C Tyrrell advised the horse raced more competitively today with the addition of blinkers but was still disappointing overall. Stewards advised the Trainer not to start HUSSASIN again until satisfied it would perform to the desired standard.

Race 5: East Coast Lawyers Class 2 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Quick Witted 2nd – Back to Abilene 3rd – Dazzle Me Red 4th – No More Bull

LUCKY WARDY (B Appo) and NATURAL VELOCITY (Michael Palmer) were slow to begin.

BACK TO ABILENE (K Yoshida) raced wide during the early stages of the event.

Near the 600m ROMEO LAD (Matthew Palmer) shifted out and bumped NO MORE BULL (S
Bogenhuber) forcing that horse wider on the track.

Jockey J Morris (OLD FEELING) reported that due to the early speed in the race he elected to take up a position with cover. He added that the gelding then failed to travel at any stage of the race.

App. Richardson quickly restrained BILBERRY STAR following the race and dismounted from the gelding as she was concerned with its action. A post-race veterinary examination of BILBERRY STAR (B Richardson) revealed the gelding to be lame behind. Trainer B Brown advised that BILBERRY STAR would be sent for an immediate spell. Nonetheless Stewards advised Mr Brown that a veterinary clearance would be required before its next race start.

Race 6: McLauchlan & Partners Class 2 H’cap – 1400m
1st – A Tad Apart 2nd – Crashing 3rd – Linville 4th – Righteous Miss

Shortly after the start RIGHTEOUS MISS (T Wolfgram) bumped DEFY ALL ODDS (B Appo).

CRASHING (A Pattillo) was held up for clear running from 400m to 200m.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on HARKAWAY GIRL which was ridden in a forward position which is in contrast to its normal pattern of racing, Jockey Michael Palmer stated that he was instructed to take up a rearward position from the wide barrier. He added that after beginning well he was obliged to race wide in the early stages at which point the mare was inclined to race strongly. Therefore instead of overly restraining HARKAWAY GIRL to comply with the instructions, he elected to allow the mare to stride forward to take up a position outside the leader closer to the rail. Jockey Palmer added that he was content with the tempo set in the middle stages of the race however HARKAWAY GIRL weakened over the final 150m of the race. After viewing the patrol footage Stewards noted the explanation of Jockey Palmer.

Race 7: Qld Marine Centre Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Gundy Gal 2nd – Like a Bird 3rd – Beebee’s Last 4th – Vain at Heart

HYDRAZINE (J Morris) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start LIKE A BIRD (S Bogenhuber) and SETH (E Kehoe) lost ground when tightened for room between GIANT CRUSHER (T Wolfgram) and PINK BRIETTA (T Treichel) which shifted out. At the same point MISS CAITLYN (N Thomas) shifted in and bumped OUTBACK DREAM (B Richardson) which was taken in on to BEEBEE’S LAST (Michael Palmer).

GIANT CRUSHER which was caught 4 wide outside the leader in the early stages was ridden forward from a point leaving the 800m in an effort to take up a leading position on the rail.

Approaching the 800m IT IS YOUR DESTINY (P Holmes) was hampered when racing in restricted room to the inside of ROCK LANE (B Appo).

PINK BRIETTA, OUTBACK DREAM and SETH raced wide throughout the event.

LIKE A BIRD was held up rounding the home turn.

Rounding the home turn ROCK LANE was bumped by PINK BRIETTA and GIANT GRUSHER when racing in restricted room between those runners.

Leaving the 200m LIKE A BIRD was disappointed for a run to the outside of GUNDY GAL (Matthew Palmer) and was obliged to shift to the inside of that runner to obtain clear running over the concluding stages.

Jockey J Morris reported that HYDRAZINE began awkwardly which resulted in him taking up a rearward position in running. He added that the gelding then over-raced in the early and middle stages and rounding the home turn when held up on the heels of IT IS YOUR DESTINY was disappointed for a run to the inside of that runner and as a result made heavy contact with the running rail and became unbalanced for a short distance. Jockey Morris further added that he then had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight before taking a run between ROCK LANE and GIANT CRUSHER leaving the 200m after which the gelding finished the race off well.

Stewards will interview Jockey Patrick Holmes as to his riding of IT IS YOUR DESTINY in the home straight at a later date.

Race 8: Commercial Kitchen Company Class 3 Plate – 1100m
1st – Caldetes 2nd – Zippity Jet 3rd – Special Lie 4th – Lady Guevara

Prior to the start, at the Jockey’s request, CALDETES (J Morris) was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

LADY GUEVARA (T Wolfgram) began awkwardly and lost ground.

MORRISON (J Orman) raced wide throughout the event.

LADY GUEVARA was momentarily held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight .
Near the 200m SILVAKINI (S Fawke) was steadied when tightened for room between ARKIBOUM (Matthew Palmer) which shifted in and away from SIMPLY SMART (Michael Palmer).
