Race 1: Stuart James Memorial QTIS 2YO H’Cap – 900m
1st – Tales Of Fashion 2nd – Another Whiskey 3rd – Gherardini 4th – Elle Lou

As C. Whiteley was indisposed due to illness stewards permitted A. Best to be substituted as the rider of FEELIN’ THE HEAT.

The explanation tendered by trainer S. Kendrick for the late declaration of R. Goltz as the rider of GHERARDINI was accepted.

The start was delayed when ELLE LOU kicked out and was removed from the barriers. After undergoing a veterinary examination ELLE LOU was cleared to take its place in the race.

ALL THE SAY (E. Kehoe) and GHERARDINI (R. Goltz) were both slow to begin and shortly thereafter were tightened for room between TWILIGHT PRINCESS (Michael Palmer) and ELLE LOU (K. Forrester), which began awkwardly and shifted in.

FEELIN’ THE HEAT (A. Best) began awkwardly and shifted in bumping the hind quarters of FIRST RAIN (App J.K. Johnson) and as a result lost ground.

Approaching the 800m TWILIGHT PRINCESS had to be eased when tightened for room between CHOC MOUNTAIN (Matthew Palmer) and ELLE LOU. TWILIGHT PRINCESS then shifted in and inconvenienced FIRST RAIN.

ALL THE SAY hung out leaving the 500m.

KHE SANH (N. Evans) raced greenly in the home straight.

Passing the 300m A. Best the rider of FEELIN’ THE HEAT was unable to use his whip for a short distance when it became entangled in the reins.

Approaching the finishing line ELLE LOU had to be eased when tightened for room by TALES OF FASHION (T. Treichel).

CHOC MOUNTAIN and KHE SANH both raced wide throughout the event.

A post race veterinary examination of KHE SANH failed to reveal any abnormalities.


Race 2: Commercial Kitchen Company 3YO Maiden H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Breeze On By 2nd – Jetting To London 3rd – Talon Lady 4th – Mecappuccino

Trainer J. Morrisey was fined the sum of $100.00 for negligence when he engaged App J.K. Johnson as the rider of BREEZE ON BY without confirming the engagement with App Johnson. As a consequence App Johnson was only able to claim a ½ kilo. A public announcement was made to this effect.

Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was fined the sum of $100.00 for the late declaration of A. Pattillo as the rider of ALBERTA.

MECAPPUCCINO (L. Rolls), AMITY BAY (App M. McGuren), JETTING TO LONDON (K. Yoshida) and STORMY SEA (R. Goltz) were all slow to begin.

Passing the 1200m GRAND RUBY (Matthew Palmer) overraced. At the same point MACMICKLE (App C. Schmidt) overraced at the heels of TALON LADY (T. Treichel).

Approaching the 1000m JETTING TO LONDON bumped the hind quarters of MECAPPUCCINO.

TALON LADY was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

Leaving the 400m BREEZE ON BY (App J.K. Johnson) shifted out to improve taking TALON LADY wider on the track.

When questioned as to the overall performance of GRAND RUBY jockey Matthew Palmer expressed his disappointment in the gelding’s performance however, was unable to offer any tangible explanation. Trainer L. Wheeler also expressed his disappointment in the performance of GRAND RUBY and undertook to have blood tests conducted, the results of which he would report back to stewards. Mr Wheeler did note that with the benefit of hindsight GRAND RUBY may perform better when ridden further back in the field with cover. A swab sample was taken from GRAND RUBY. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.


Race 3: Sewroo Products Maiden SW Plate – 1400m
1st – The Ippy Jet 2nd – Miss Fifi 3rd – Room Eight 4th – Enchantee

Correct weight was delayed whilst App J.K. Johnson the rider of 4th placegetter ENCHANTEE viewed the patrol footage to ascertain if she had grounds to lodge a protest against the 2nd placegetter MISS FIFI (L. Rolls) over the concluding stages. After viewing the patrol footage App Johnson declined to proceed with the objection.

Shortly after the start HOLIDAY (App M. McGuren) had to be eased when tightened for room between ROYAL ENCHANTRESS (Michael Palmer) and BOLTING BANDIT (K. Yoshida), both of which shifted ground.

Upon jumping away TEMUDGIN (App M. McKenzie) was hampered between STUCK FOR WORDS and MISS FIFI, both of which began very awkwardly.

Leaving the 900m STUCK FOR WORDS improved onto the heels of ENCHANTEE had to be steadied and shifted out.

HOLIDAY overraced for some distance leaving the 1000m and near the 900m made contact with the running rail becoming unbalanced.

MISS FIFI shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.


Race 4: Sunlover Pool Heating Benchmark 80 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Noisy Ocean 2nd – Trombone Alley 3rd – Dazzle Us 4th – Hush Power

THRILLERS (L. Cheshire) and RETUNE (A. Pattillo) were both slow to begin.

CABALLO RAPIDO (App B. Appo) laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

DAZZLE US (App M. McGuren) raced wide throughout the event.



Race 5: MCG Legal Class 2 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Rare Fragrance 2nd – Brigadoon Legend 3rd – Navelina 4th – Annario

Trainer M. Wilson was fined the sum of $100.00 for failing to enact the required gear change for SASSY MAHER, which was presented to race in race plates and not bar plates as advertised. Public announcements were made to this effect.

The start of this race was delayed due to the ambulance officers having to attend to an oncourse patron.

DON’TCRYARGENTINA (App M. McGuren) shifted out at the start hampering PURRFECTLYFEARLESS (M. Gray).

JADE MOUNTAIN (L. Rolls) overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.

Approaching the 1000m FIRST RELEASE (T. Treichel) had to be steadied and lost ground when tightened for room between NAVELINA (App M. McKenzie), which shifted out slightly and FORELOCK (Matthew Palmer), which was taken in by DON’TCRYARGENTINA, which shifted in. In this incident LIKE A BIRD (N. Evans) which was tiring clipped the heels of FIRST RELEASE and blundered. At a subsequent inquiry App M. McGuren the rider of DON’TCRYARGENTINA was reprimanded.

Leaving the 800m RARE FRAGRANCE (App B. Appo) commenced to overrace at the heels of NAVELINA and in doing so shifted wider forcing FIRST RELEASE wider on the track. FIRST RELEASE was forced to race 3 wide from that point onwards. RARE FRAGRANCE then continued to overrace and despite the efforts of its rider improved to the inside of FORELOCK where there was insufficient room and had to be checked.

Leaving the 600m ANNARIO (K. Forrester) improved up onto the heels of RARE FRAGRANCE and had to be steadied. JADE MOUNTAIN which was following had to be steadied as a consequence.

RARE FRAGRANCE was held up rounding the home turn.

T. Treichel the rider of FIRST RELEASE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 250m when insufficiently clear of FORELOCK which contributed to the interference suffered to FORELOCK. T. Treichel was suspended from riding in races for a period of five (5) meetings to commence at the expiration of a suspension incurred on Saturday 14 December 2013, being midnight 2 January 2014 and to expire midnight 11 January 2014.

Furthermore App B. Appo the rider of RARE FRAGRANCE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out near the 250m when being insufficiently clear of FORELOCK, which contributed to the interference suffered to FORELOCK. App Appo was suspended from riding in races for a period of 5 (five) meetings to commence midnight 26 December 2013 and to expire midnight 1 January 2014.

App B. Appo the rider of RARE FRAGRANCE was found guilty of a further charge of careless riding under the provisions AR137(a) for forcing a run to the inside of FIRST RELEASE near the 100m when being insufficiently clear of DON’TCRYARGENTINA, which contributed to the interference suffered to DON’TCRYARGENTINA. App Appo was suspended from riding in races for a period of 5 (five) meetings to commence midnight 1 January 2014 and to expire midnight 8 January 2014. Stewards ordered that this suspension be served cumulatively under the provisions of AR196(3) with the suspension incurred at the 250m.

Furthermore App M. McKenzie the rider of NAVELINA was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out near the 100m whilst riding it along when being insufficiently clear of DON’TCRYARGENTINA, which contributed to the interference suffered to DON’TCRYARGENTINA. App McKenzie was suspended from riding in races for a period of 5 (five) meetings to commence midnight 26 December 2013 and to expire midnight 1 January 2014.

Leaving the 200m LIKE A BIRD shifted out when compounding and inconvenienced JADE MOUNTAIN.

Over the concluding stages FIRST RELEASE had to be eased when tightened for room between ANNARIO and RARE FRAGRANCE, which shifted out. App Appo the rider of RARE FRAGRANCE was severely reprimanded.

ANNARIO and LIKE A BIRD both raced wide throughout the event.

A post race veterinary examination of FIRST RELEASE revealed the filly to have sustained a laceration to the near hind leg.

A post race veterinary examination of FORELOCK failed to reveal any abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of PURRFECTLYFEARLESS revealed the horse to be suffering from the thumps. Trainer T. Bita was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to PURRFECTLYFEARLESS racing again.


Race 6: Axle’s Earthmoving & Civil Works Class 3 SW Plate – 1800m
1st – Tertiary 2nd – Popstar Pete 3rd – Scarborough 4th – Kentaur

Trainer B. Guy was fined the sum of $100.00 for the late declaration of K. Yoshida as the rider of LULLABY LADY.

FOUR JAYS (A. Pattillo) shifted out at the start and bumped LULLABY LADY.

POPSTAR PETE (L. Rolls) began awkwardly.

ALBIZIA (Michael Palmer) was slow to begin.

HUXTABLE (App B. Appo) shifted in near the 1400m forcing SCARBOROUGH (Matthew Palmer) to be steadied. SCARBOROUGH then raced ungenerously for a considerable distance. App Appo was reprimanded.

FOUR JAYS and KENTAUR (S. Fawke) both raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to the lead near the 1200m.

Approaching the 500m DECKED OUT (App S. Payne) improved onto the heels of HUXTABLE and had to be steadied.

FOUR JAYS hung out rounding the home turn.

LULLABY LADY raced wide throughout the event.

A post race veterinary examination of HUXTABLE revealed the gelding to be suffering from a poor recovery rate. Trainer M. Nolan will be interviewed at a later date.


Race 7: Simon Says Landscaping Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Hidden Rose 2nd – Hidden Dancer 3rd – Feelin’ Fiesty 4th – Ninetynine Percent

HIDDEN ROSE (A. Pattillo) and HIDDEN DANCER (J. Letherby) were tightened for room at the start between IRISHLADY MILLIONS (L. Rolls) and WAR FLOWER (Matthew Palmer), both of which shifted ground. In this incident WAR FLOWER became unbalanced after making contact with HIDDEN DANCER.

Passing the 1000m WAR FLOWER shied at a discoloured section of the track and became very awkward. NORTHERN ZOOM (Michael Palmer) which was following was inconvenienced as a consequence. FEELIN’ FIESTY (M. Gray) which was racing to the outside of WAR FLOWER was taken wider causing NINETYNINE PERCENT (K. Yoshida) to be inconvenienced.

Near the 700m HIDDEN DANCER became awkward at the heels of NINETYNINE PERCENT for a short distance.

HIDDEN ROSE was held up for a short distance upon entering the home straight.

HIDDEN DANCER shifted out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight forcing FEELIN’ FIESTY wider on the track.

M. Gray will be interviewed as to his riding of FEELIN’ FIESTY over the concluding stages.

NINETYNINE PERCENT raced wide throughout the event.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of WAR FLOWER jockey Matthew Palmer stated that the filly did not travel comfortably after becoming awkward near the 1000m and as a result failed to respond to his riding over the final 100m and proved disappointing. Trainer T. Edmonds will be interviewed at a later date. A post race veterinary examination of WAR FLOWER failed to reveal any abnormality.


Race 8: Amalgamated Painting Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Flight King 2nd – Ten Gauge 3rd – Beezip 4th – Telmemore

A veterinary examination of NICE GUY EDDIE when it arrived behind the barriers revealed a laceration to the tongue. Acting on veterinary advice NICE GUY EDDIE was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 5.21 p.m. All monies invested on NICE GUY EDDIE were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and place-getters prior to 5.21 p.m.:

2 cents in the dollar for the win - # 6 (FLIGHT KING)
3 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #6 (FLIGHT KING)
3 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place - #1 (TEN GAUGE)
4 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place - # 9 (BEEZIP)

Trainer S. Hunter will be advised that a veterinary clearance for NICE GUY EDDIE would be required before it is permitted to race again.

L. Rolls reported that REGAL SHOW was fractious in the barriers and as a result was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start REGAL SHOW had to be eased when tightened for room between TELMEMORE (App M. McKenzie) and TEN GAUGE (App S. Fawke), which shifted out.

BABUR (R. Goltz) began awkwardly.

SHOW ME THE GEM (App C. Schmidt) began awkwardly and lost ground.

BULL SHARK (C. Small) stood flatfooted as the start was effected and lost ground.

Passing the 800m BULL SHARK improved onto the heels of REGAL SHOW and had to be restrained for a considerable distance.

App McKenzie reported that TELMEMORE overraced in the middle stages of the event.

Upon straightening TEN GAUGE shifted out and bumped BEEZIP (T. Treichel).

C. Small the rider of BULL SHARK dropped his whip near the 250m.
