SUPPLEMENTARY:
As App M McGuren was indisposed due to personal reasons stewards permitted rider changes as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: Zircus – An Entertainment Spectacular Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 2 WR 1.5kg H’Cap – 1200m
1st – I Smarticus 2nd – Bearded Dragon 3rd – Laserjack 4th – Yo Ferdinand
TRAPUNTO (App J.K. Johnson) was slow to begin.
YO FERDINAND (App C. Schmidt) began awkwardly.
M. Speers the rider of I SMARTICUS pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 900m when insufficiently clear of RUN FOR EVER (App M. McKenzie), causing that runner to clip the heels of I SMARTICUS and blunder. M. Speers was suspended from riding in races for a period of eight (8) meetings to commence midnight 19 January 2014 and to expire midnight 31 January 2014. Following this incident a veterinary examination of I SMARTICUS revealed the gelding to have sustained a severe laceration to its near hind leg consistent with being galloped on.
Race 2: Commercial Kitchen Company Maiden H’Cap – 900m
1st – Kasey Chelsea 2nd – Eagle’s Nest 3rd – Baroness 4th – Flamingo Lake
VIXEN BELLE (B. Stewart) was slow to begin.
BARONESS (App S. Fawkes) began awkwardly.
MANNER LASSIE (A. Merritt) laid out in the early stages of the event.
MR PERSISTENT (M. Speers) hung out in the middle stages and leaving the 500m bumped ETCHES (K. Forrester).
ETCHES was held up in the early stages of the home straight.
LEPRECHAUN LAD (N. Yamada) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.
EAGLE’S NEST (App C. Schmidt) and BARONESS both raced wide throughout the event.
KERRICAIT (M. Hellyer) raced very wide throughout the event.
A post race veterinary examination of VIXEN BELLE, which raced uncompetitively throughout, failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination. When questioned as to the uncompetitive performance of VIXEN BELLE trainer L. Kelly was unable to offer any tangible explanation. Mr Kelly indicated the mare had trialled well leading into today’s race, on the basis of which he had expected a forward showing. Mr Kelly undertook to advise stewards if any abnormalities come to light in the days subsequent to the race. Stewards advised Mr Kelly that VIXEN BELLE would be required to trial prior to its next start in the event that there was no veterinary explanation for the poor performance
Race 3: Dillon Legal Maiden SW Plate – 1100m
1st – Lady De Retz 2nd – Hark Angel 3rd – Love Stories 4th – Famous Grouse
As M. Speers was overweight stewards permitted B. Stewart to be substituted as the rider of LADY DE RETZ. M. Speers was subsequently fined the sum of $100.00.
App S. Payne who initially replaced the indisposed App M. McGuren was then unable to fulfil the engagement due to transport difficulties and was replaced by App B. Newport as the rider of HEARTBREAK HARRY.
The start was delayed when HEARTBREAK HARRY (App B. Newport) proved difficult to load.
MISS CANNYBLU (App S. Fawkes) refused to jump. Trainer M. Lakey was advised that MISS CANNYBLU must compete in two (2) official barrier trials to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. Mr Lakey reported the horse will now be retired from racing.
HEARTBREAK HARRY and AGUILERA LASS (App J.K. Johnson) both began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start LOVE STORIES (App C. Schmidt) and HARK ANGEL (Matthew Palmer) bumped.
Shortly after the start IVAN ATTITUDE (A. Pattillo) had to be eased when tightened for room between SON OF EDEN (M. Hellyer) and FAMOUS GROUSE (App N. Masuda), which shifted in.
Passing the 900m FAMOUS GROUSE shifted in and bumped SON OF EDEN.
FAMOUS GROUSE hung out leaving the 500m.
LOVE STORIES was held up rounding the home turn.
Approaching the 400m SON OF EDEN shifted in and bumped DINKY DESTINY (App C. Jokic).
A post race veterinary examination of SON OF EDEN, which compounded over the final 400m, revealed no significant findings.
A. Pattillo the rider of IVAN ATTITUDE was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
App B. Newport the rider of HEARTBREAK HARRY reported at scales that his saddle shifted back placing him at a disadvantage throughout the event.
App M. McKenzie reported that COLD BLOODED raced very greenly throughout proving difficult to ride. Trainer B. Smith was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners.
Race 4: Firstupracing.com.au QTIS 3YO Maiden SW Plate – 1300m
1st – Peta Pumpkineater 2nd – Racing In The Wind 3rd – Dragon Tale 4th – Master Cat
Trainer L. Wheeler was fined the sum of $100.00 for the late declaration of K. Forrester as the rider of ROL’N ROBI.
The start was delayed when LANIKAI MISS dislodged jockey A. Pattillo in the mounting yard and escaped from its handler for a short time. Jockey Pattillo was injured in this incident and unable to fulfil his engagement and as a result given the limited time this incident occurred before the advertised start time stewards permitted App S. Payne to replace A. Pattillo. After arriving at the barriers LANIKAI MISS was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the race.
ROL’N ROBI began awkwardly and lost ground.
LANIKAI MISS (App S. Payne) and OUTSTRIP (M. Speers) were both slow to begin.
ROL’N ROBI overraced in the early and middle stages and leaving the 800m shifted out forcing SCHUSTER (App N. Masuda) wider on the track.
Near the 900m MARLEE’S LUCK (Matthew Palmer) had to be eased when tightened for room by MASTER CAT (B. Stewart), which shifted in. B. Stewart the rider of MASTER CAT was reprimanded for this incident.
ROL’N ROBI hung out leaving the 600m.
LANIKAI MISS was held up rounding the home turn.
DRAGON TALE (App C. Schmidt) shifted out under pressure over the final 300m and near the 50m inconvenienced AIN’T GOING DOWN (App B. Newport). App C. Schmidt the rider of DRAGON TALE was reprimanded for this incident.
AIN’T GOING DOWN raced wide throughout the event.
M. Speers was afforded the opportunity to explain the performance of OUTSTRIP. M. Speers stated that the horse settled back in the field as is its normal racing pattern but when placed under pressure from the 400m the horse ran on only fairly to the line. Jockey Speers further added that his recommendation to the connections were for the colt to be gelded. When questioned as to the poor performance of OUTSTRIP trainer B. Herne reported that he was very disappointed with the horse’s performance as it had worked well leading into today’s event. Mr Herne added that in view of the horse’s performance today he would be advising connections that the horse may benefit from a gelding operation and a short spell.
B. Stewart reported after the race that it was not his intention to lead today on MASTER CAT however, after beginning well he found himself in a leading position outside of MARLEE’S LUCK without unduly pressuring the gelding in the early stages of the race. His explanation was noted.
When questioned as to the performance of MARLEE’S LUCK, which weakened noticeably over the final 200m, jockey Matthew Palmer was unable to explain the filly’s performance except to say that it may have jarred up on today’s firm surface. Trainer K. Doughty agreed with the comments of jockey Palmer and undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality that may come to light in the days subsequent to the event. A post race veterinary examination of MARLEE’S LUCK revealed no significant findings.
Race 5: Jamie Evans Memorial Cup Benchmark 75 H’Cap – 2200m
1st – Noble Jester 2nd – Nature Bites 3rd – Analie’s Daughter 4th – Storm Fabulador
Passing the 900m NATURE BITES (K. Forrester) improved onto the heels of TAYSTAR (App S. Fawkes), which was under pressure. As a result NATURE BITES shifted wider forcing DECKED OUT (App S. Payne) to race 3 wide from that point onwards.
Leaving the 500m ANALIE’S DAUGHTER (App C. Van Der Werf) was awkwardly placed on the heels of the tiring DECKED OUT and as a result shifted out making contact with STORM FABULADOR (Matthew Palmer) on several occasions. As a consequence ANALIE’S DAUGHTER was held up rounding the home turn until a point near the 300m.
Approaching the 300m NOBLE JESTER (M. Hellyer) shifted in and bumped NATURE BITES.
App S. Payne the rider of DECKED OUT reported that his horse felt awkward in its action in the home straight and for this reason he did not ride it out to the end of the race. A post race veterinary examination of DECKED OUT revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor race recovery. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith reported to stewards that in light of today’s performance he would now be recommending to the connections to retire the gelding.
Race 6: Zircus – An Entertainment Spectacular Fillies & Mares Class 2 WR 0.5kg H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Haven Queen 2nd – Solvang Mist 3rd – Just A Rockstar 4th – Fire When Ready
As Matthew Palmer was overweight stewards permitted P. Timbery to be substituted as the rider of DIAPHYSIS. Jockey Palmer was subsequently fined the sum of $100.00.
Connections advised COOPER’S GIRL, which raced back in the field from a bad barrier at its previous start, would be ridden in a more forward position from the good draw today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
FIRE WHEN READY (C. McIver) proved difficult to load.
The start was further delayed when TABALI (App C. Schmidt) which was fractious in the barriers was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the race. Trainer D.J. Bougoure was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of TABALI.
TABALI began awkwardly and shifted out inconveniencing KALUANUI (App S. Payne).
FIRE WHEN READY began awkwardly.
App S. Payne the rider of KALUANUI was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
M. Hellyer the rider of HAVEN QUEEN was reprimanded for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
Upon return to scale C. McIver reported that FIRE WHEN READY raced greenly throughout the event.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of TABALI trainer Mr Bougoure advised he was at a loss to explain the performance and undertook to report anything that comes to light in the days subsequent to the event that may explain the performance and advised that he would also be having his veterinary surgeon conduct blood tests and would furnish those results if anything was amiss.
Race 7: Techset Billions Cup Class 1 H’Cap W 0.5kg – 1800m
1st – Maximum Cash 2nd – She’s Amazing 3rd – Castledale Lad 4th – Baltoro
S. Drake was fined the sum of $100.00 for failing to fulfil her engagement on RUTHLESS BABE. Stewards permitted C. McIver to be substituted as the rider of RUTHLESS BABE.
BALTORO was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the running of this race after abrasions were noticed to its off fore cannon. BALTORO was cleared to take its place in field .
SHE’S AMAZING (Matthew Palmer) and QUAD (App C. Jokic) were both slow to begin.
CASTLEDALE LAD (App J.K. Johnson) began awkwardly.
CASTLEDALE LAD overraced in the early and middle stages and near the 1500m shifted in and tightened the running of PERSIAN BOOK (C. Small), which had to be steadied.
Leaving the 1500m SHE’S AMAZING was steadied when tightened for room by WHISPERING TESS (App A. Hearn), which was taken in by BREEZE ON BY (App S. Payne). App Payne was reprimanded for this incident.
Approaching the 1200m CASTLEDALE LAD again shifted in and tightened the running of PERSIAN BOOK, which had to be steadied again.
FELINE GREIGHT (M. Hellyer), RUTHLESS BABE (C. McIver) and QUAD (App C. Jokic) all raced wide throughout the event.
When questioned as to the improved performance of MAXIMUM CASH trainer K. Loy attributed the improved performance to today’s tempo of the race, stepping the gelding up in distance and the quick back up from its previous start. Stewards noted her comments.
Race 8: CCS Insurance Solutions Class 3 SW Plate – 1400m
1st – Shtarker 2nd – Double Power 3rd – Popstar Pete 4th – Mr Honor
DOUBLE POWER (App C. Van Der Werf) began awkwardly.
GRANTLY MISS (App R. Johnston-Bell) and POPSTAR PETE (App A. Hearn) were both slow to begin.
TURIFF (Matthew Palmer) overraced in the early stages of the event.
Near the 1000m EMPEROR (App J.K. Johnson) shifted in taking SHTARKER (App C. Schmidt) in onto NEPTUNE PALACE (C. McIver), which had to be steadied. App Johnson the rider of EMPEROR was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Near the 600m GRANTLY MISS commenced to hang out and became awkward on the heels of NEPTUNE PALACE.
MR HONOR (App N. Masuda) raced wide throughout the event.
Trainer M. Maunder reported that I AM BUT A FOOL lost its near hind plate during the running of this event. A post race veterinary examination of I AM BUT A FOOL revealed a small laceration to its off hind leg.
C. McIver the rider of NEPTUNE PALACE was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of his runner. Jockey McIver stated his horse travelled well throughout the event however, when placed under pressure from the 400m failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing. Jockey McIver further added his recommendation to connections would be for the horse to be gelded as the horse was very bullish prior to the race. Trainer Mr Bougoure advised he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of NEPTUNE PALACE and undertook to report anything that comes to light in the days subsequent to the event that may explain the performance and advised that he would also be having his veterinary surgeon conduct blood tests and would furnish those results if anything was amiss.
