SEQUALISCIOUS (A. Best) and JAVELENTIA (App T. Wolfgram) both began awkwardly.

HOT ICE (App G. Goold) was slow to begin.

MRS ASIA (I. Coombes) raced wide throughout the event.

When asked to comment on the performance of SEQUALISCIOUS jockey A. Best stated that the gelding was fractious in the barriers and as a result began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey Best added that he was then obliged to ride SEQUALISCIOUS along in order to obtain its customary forward position however, when placed under pressure on straightening the gelding failed to respond and proved disappointing. Jockey Best noted that SEQUALISCIOUS had performed well in the past when able to begin well and lead comfortably. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 2: Ashley Foster Class 5 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Cheval Du Feu 2nd – Simply Smart 3rd – Albert’s Choice 4th – Bingo Rose

Shortly after the start GET ON (T. Treichel) was checked and lost ground when tightened for room between SOLAR CHOICE (K. Yoshida), which was taken in by ALBERT’S CHOICE (R. McMahon) and BINGO ROSE (L. Cassidy), which was taken out by CHEVAL DU FEU (T. Bell). SOLAR CHOICE was also inconvenienced as a consequence.

CHEVAL DU FEU hung in in the home straight.

A post race veterinary examination of A GRADE STUDENT (M. Hellyer), which weakened considerably in the home straight, revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg and to have sustained a laceration to the near hind heel consistent with being galloped on. Trainer A. Willick was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to A GRADE STUDENT racing again.

Race 3: Emma Pitt Fillies & Mares Maiden H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Mrs Cranedriver 2nd – Isinbayeva 3rd – Olympic Queen 4th – Blu Axis

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by App C. Schmidt for being unable to fulfil her engagement on MISS PEACE KEEPER. App Schmidt was subsequently replaced by App S. Payne.

KALAHARI JEWEL which was kicked behind the barriers was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

Correct weight was delayed to allow D. Carrigg the rider of 3rd placegetter OLYMPIC QUEEN to view the photo finish. D. Carrigg was satisfied with the judge’s placings and correct weight was declared on the numbers as semaphored.

ISINBAYEVA (J.K. Johnson) and KALAHARI JEWEL (T. Bell) bumped on jumping away.

T. Treichel the rider of BLU AXIS pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that approaching the 300m when held up on the heels of COOL RUNNER (M. Hellyer) he elected to shift to the inside of that runner resulting in VIXEN BELLE (L. Cassidy) having to be severely checked and lose ground. BLU AXIS then clipped the heels of COOL RUNNER and shifted in abruptly resulting in MISS PEACE KEEPER (App S. Payne) having to be steadied when taken in onto SALUTE OUR DIGGERS (A. Butler), which became very awkward as a consequence. T. Triechel’s was suspended from riding in races for a period of eight (8) meetings to commence midnight 29 June 2014 and to expire midnight 11 July 2014.

FLINDERS LUCK (App G. Goold) hung out rounding the home turn.

ISINBAYEVA was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

J. Morris the rider of TROPICAL was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that leaving the 100m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SALUTE OUR DIGGERS, which resulted in SALUTE OUR DIGGERS having to be checked and lose ground at that point. J. Morris was suspended from riding in races for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence midnight 29 June 2014 and to expire midnight 9 July 2014.

OLYMPIC QUEEN and MRS CRANEDRIVER (M. McGuren) both raced wide throughout the event.

App M. McGuren the rider of MRS CRANEDRIVER was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

D. Carrigg the rider of OLYMPIC QUEEN was fined the sum of $200.00 for excessively using her whip in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.

D. Carrigg was further fined the sum of $200.00 for failing to ride OLYMPIC QUEEN right out to the end of the race. In assessing penalty stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that failing to ride her mount out to the end of the race had cost her 2nd place.

Jockey A. Butler reported that SALUTE OUR DIGGERS was inclined to hang out throughout the race.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of MRS CRANEDRIVER trainer B. Lockwood stated that its performance 2 starts ago had some merit as on that occasion the mare had been unable to muster the necessary speed to take up its intended forward position. Mr Lockwood added that MRS CRANEDRIVER then failed to improve into the race leaving the 600m but was doing its best work over the concluding stages of that race. Mr Lockwood further added at its last start MRS CRANEDRIVER, with the addition of winkers, had overraced in the early and middle stages resulting in it weakening over the concluding stages. As a result of its disappointing performance last start connections were of the view that the mare would be better suited over today’s distance of 1400m. His explanation was noted.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on TROPICAL jockey J. Morris stated that he rode the filly forward in the early stages to obtain the lead however with the addition of blinkers today it then raced strongly during the middle stages despite his efforts. Jockey Morris was of the view that the racing manners of TROPICAL had a detrimental affect on its finishing performance. His explanation was noted.

1st – Pop ‘N’ Scotch 2nd – Lucky Day Kid 3rd – Greenwood Echo 4th – Spinning Heart

POP ‘N’ SCOTCH (R. McMahon) began awkwardly.

RED ASSASSIN (T. Treichel) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 400m POP ‘N’ SCOTCH shifted out to improve and bumped SWITCH ON (App S. Payne), which in turn shifted out inconveniencing SPINNING HEART (T. Bell).

App J.K. Johnson the rider of LUCKY DAY KID was fined the sum of $500.00 for using her whip excessively in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.

A post race veterinary examination of SWITCH ON revealed no significant abnormalities.

VAN HOOLIGAN overraced in the early stages resulting in the saddle shifting forward which placed him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. As a consequence VAN HOOLIGAN shifted out rounding the turn near the 1400m taking WONDERFUL DIAMONDS wider. VAN HOOLIGAN then raced wide for the remainder of the race.

RED GAZE (T. Bell) raced wide in the early stages of the event, before being allowed to stride forward to take up a position outside the leader.

App G. Goold the rider of ARDROVA reported he was held up for clear running from leaving the 600m until approaching the 400m.

Approaching the 200m FULL HAMMER (J. Morris) was disappointed for a run between WONDERFUL DIAMONDS and KAZAN (R. McMahon), which shifted out under pressure. FULL HAMMER was then obliged to shift back to the inside of KAZAN to obtain clear running over the concluding stages.

R. McMahon the rider of KAZAN was reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.

1st – Front Fun 2nd – Little De Troy 3rd – Asthecourtcommands 4th – Wewonya

IL CAMPIONE (App T. Wolfgram) and LUCK AND FAME (T. Treichel) bumped on jumping away, resulting in IL CAMPIONE shifting back in making contact with HOTEL AFFAIR (D. Carrigg). A short distance later HOTEL AFFAIR had to be eased when tightened for room between IL CAMPIONE and ASTHECOURTCOMMANDS (L. Cassidy), which shifted out.

WEWONYA (App G. Goold) was slow to muster speed in the early stages of the race.

MR SEDUCTION (T. Bell) was obliged to race wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward to take up a position closer to the rail in the lead.

Leaving the 900m LUCK AND FAME had to be eased when tightened for room between ASTHECOURTCOMMANDS and MR SEDUCTION, which shifted in.

In the early stages of the home straight WEWONYA was disappointed for a run between LUCK AND FAME and ASTHECOURTCOMMANDS, resulting in it being held up until the 200m at which point WEWONYA was able to shift back to the inside of ASTHECOURTCOMMANDS.

LUCK AND FAME and HOTEL AFFAIR both raced wide throughout the event.

When questioned as to the overall performance of IL CAMPIONE App Wolfgram stated that the gelding raced very ungenerously throughout the race and was under pressure leaving the 600m. App Wolfgram noted that IL CAMPIONE had raced in a similar fashion at its first start at Murwillumbah and in his opinion would improve with further racing.

ROL’N ROBI began awkwardly and lost ground.

VI’S REIGN (App T. Wolfgram) began awkwardly and shifted out bumping SAGACIOUS FLAME (L. Cassidy), which then shifted out inconveniencing LA RANITA (K. Yoshida).

ROL’N ROBI raced very ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the race.

VI’S REIGN hung out approaching and rounding the home turn.

OH CANDY (App M. McGuren) shifted out under pressure leaving the 300m inconveniencing ATHANEA (A. Butler). App McGuren was obliged to stop riding and straighten OH CANDY at that point and again near the 100m when the filly again shifted out under pressure.

Race 8: Warwick (Putt) Puttick Memorial Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Foxbat 2nd – Credit Only 3rd – Beijing Dancer 4th – Neomagic

During the preliminary POLAR SHIFT dislodged App M. McGuren and was quickly restrained. POLAR SHIFT underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

FAMOUS GROUSE (K. Yoshida) blundered shortly after the start.

Shortly after the start COUNTY GOLD (App J. Orman) had to be steadied when tightened for room between NEOMAGIC (L. Cheshire) and CREDIT ONLY (App G. Goold), which was taken out by FAMOUS GROUSE. At the same point PRINCE OF BELAIRE (L. Cassidy) had to be steadied when tightened for room between SET AFIRE (T. Bell) and FOXBAT, both of which shifted ground.

FOXBAT raced wide for the majority of the event.

PRESENT GLOW and BONNAY FLYER (I. Coombes) raced wide throughout the event.

Near the 150m SET AFIRE shifted out and bumped NEOMAGIC.
