Race 1: Protector Safety Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Queen of Georgia 2nd – Rickshawtoraffles 3rd – Casinomac 4th – Persist
The start was initially delayed to hold for an interstate event and then further delayed when MONSCHAPELLE (T Treichel) proved difficult to load. Trainer B Smith was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of MONSCHAPELLE.
PERSIST (S Fawke) was slow to begin.
MONSCHAPELLE raced wide throughout the event.
Approaching the 700m RICKSHAWTORAFFLES (C Schmidt) shifted out and bumped CASINOMAC (N Masuda) which in turn inconvenienced KESTERA STAR (L Cheshire).

After becoming cast in the tie-up stalls, TULLA TOUCH (T Wolfgram) was declared a late scratching at 12.13 pm on the advice of the veterinary surgeon. As betting had not commenced, no deductions were ordered. Trainer T Edmonds was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required before TULLA TOUCH races again.
Jockey J Morris reported that DO A DABL DOYA hung out rounding the home turn.
Upon straightening BARAKULA (B Looker) had to be steadied when disappointed for a run to the inside of MENACING (K Matheson).
FLAMBOYER (S Galloway) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination of MENACING which proved disappointing failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination. App K Matheson noted that the gelding’s recent performances had been on rain-affected tracks and therefore was of the view that MENACING may not have appreciated today’s firm surface.
Race 3: Scyon Linea Class 4 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Tricky Rocket 2nd – Vienne 3rd – Young Fun 4th – Blaisingjad
Approaching the 200m YOUNG FUN (T Wolfgram) was disappointed for a run to the outside of VIENNE (N Masuda) and was then held up to approaching the 100m.
Race 4: ARC Benchmark 85 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Noisy Ocean 2nd – Primary Colour 3rd – Mr Slick 4th – Carbon Taikun
The start was delayed to hold for an interstate event.
Upon return to scale, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey J Morris the rider of PRIMARY COLOUR which finished 2nd against NOISY OCEAN (C Schmidt) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference over the final 200m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the official patrol film Stewards established that near the 150m NOISY OCEAN shifted out under pressure and brushed PRIMARY COLOUR. Bearing in mind the way both horses finished off the race from that point onwards, Stewards could not be satisfied that the minimal interference had an effect on the placings and therefore dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.
CARBON TAIKUN (T Treichel) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start MR SLICK (L Rolls) shifted out and bumped NOISY OCEAN (C Schmidt).
Race 5: Methven Australia Maiden H’cap – 1100m

Near the 1000m CHOISIR BREEZE (T Treichel) shifted out taking FLORAL NOMAD (C Schmidt) out on to MY PARTY RULES (B Looker) which in turn shifted out inconveniencing GAYLIYAN.
MY PARTY RULES and GAYLIYAN raced wide throughout the event.
Approaching the 700m STATELY ELEMENT had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between GAYLIYAN and STAROCITY.
Leaving the 700m CHOISIR BREEZE improved onto the heels of SON OF A WARRIOR (G Cooksley) shifted out and inconvenienced FLORAL NOMAD.
Leaving the 600m STATELY ELEMENT shifted out to improve and bumped GAYLIYAN.
STAROCITY was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
Approaching the 300m CHOISIR BREEZE shifted out to improve and bumped MY PARTY RULES.
When questioned as to the tactics adopted on SEASHELLS, Jockey J Morris stated that the filly was having its first start today and he was content to position the filly where comfortable in the run. Jockey Morris stated that SEASHELLS began awkwardly resulting in him taking up a position at the rear of the field. He added that SEASHELLS raced greenly throughout the race and in doing so bumped the running rail near the 400m and became awkward for a short distance. Due to the filly’s racing manners Jockey Morris was reluctant to shift extremely wide rounding the home turn in order to improve and as such he elected to save ground to the inside of the field. Jockey Morris further added that when placed under pressure leaving the 400m SEASHELLS finished off the race well and in his opinion would benefit with the addition of blinkers for its next start. Stewards noted his explanation.
Race 6: Earthwool Glasswool Insulation Class 2 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Babur 2nd – Don’t Tell Cyril 3rd – Zizzeldo 4th – Speedy Sam
GUNFIRE POINT (B Looker) began very awkwardly and lost ground.
SPEEDY SAM (J Morris) reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
At the start ZIZZELDO (N Masuda) shifted in and bumped DON’T TELL CYRIL (S Galloway).
Shortly after the start SPEEDY SAM had to be eased when tightened for room between DON’T TELL CYRIL and BABUR (T Treichel) which shifted out.
Leaving the 400m SPEEDY SAM which was momentarily held up on the heels of DON’T TELL CYRIL, shifted out to improve and bumped BABUR. GUNFIRE POINT which was following had to be steadied and shift back to the inside of SPEEDY SAM.
ZIZZELDO laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 7: Karcher Class 3 Weights 1.5kg H’cap – 1800m
1st – Genghis 2nd – Connolly 3rd – Life Patrol 4th – Navelina
Connections advised that LUCKY WARDY (B Appo) would be ridden in a more forward position today. LUCKY WARDY blundered on jumping away before being ridden forward to take up a handy position.
NAVELINA (T Wolfgram) began awkwardly.
When asked to comment on the performance of NAVELINA, App. T Wolfgram stated that the filly travelled well in the early and middle stages of the event but failed to quicken as expected when placed under pressure leaving the 500m. App. Wolfgram noted that NAVELINA was having its first start in 6 weeks and in his opinion is better suited over further distances than that of today’s event. Trainer D Bell advised that NAVELINA would be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race sample was taken from NAVELINA.
Race 8: Scyon Matrix Class 1 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Abaddon 2nd – Telmemore 3rd – Scotty Be Gotti 4th – Duilio
At the start FEROCITY FAIR (M Vance) which began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped ABADDON (G Cooksley).
Stewards enquired into an incident near the 200m where NEOMAGIC (L Cheshire) attempted to improve to the inside of DRUM LINE (J Morris) which shifted in under pressure when weakening. Stewards could not be satisfied that NEOMAGIC had established a run to the inside of DRUM LINE prior to that gelding shifting in and as a result did not believe Jockey Morris’ actions were careless. As a consequence NEOMAGIC had to be checked when disappointed for that run.
When questioned as to the tactics adopted on DRUM LINE, particularly the margin by which the gelding led in the early and middle stages, Jockey J Morris stated that he was instructed to pressure DRUM LINE out of the barriers in an effort to lead and then allow the gelding to stride along. Mr M Downs, stable representative for J Morrisey, confirmed these instructions which were issued on the basis that DRUM LINE had resented being restrained in his previous races. Stewards noted the explanation however advised Mr Downs that should the tactics adopted today differ in future, the stable would be obliged to advise Stewards.
