As Jockey L Rolls was injured Stewards permitted rider replacements as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: Schneider Buildings Allstars Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Game Thief 2nd – Isla Poppy 3rd – Storm Fighter 4th – Perisha

Jockey J Morris (GAME THIEF) was fined the sum of $100 for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 2: the Schneider Energy Cup Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Persist 2nd – Fun 3rd – Fedson 4th – Sandon River

Approaching the 400m FEDSON (S Galloway) had to be steadied when tightened for room between GOLD SPUR (M Palmer) and SANDON RIVER (P Holmes) which shifted out to improve. Jockey Holmes was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Jockey S Galloway reported that FEDSON laid in under pressure over the final 200m which resulted in his saddle shifting thereby placing him at a disadvantage in riding FEDSON out over the concluding stages of the event.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on FUN, App. M McGuren stated that the gelding had failed to finish off the race at its last start when ridden in the lead and as such the jockey on that occasion recommended to connections that they should try and ride the gelding with cover today. App. McGuren added that when trying to obtain cover behind PROSPECTING (C Schmidt), FUN was inclined to over-race and as such he was content to remain outside of PROSPECTING until that runner crossed to the lead leaving the 700m. App. McGuren added that FUN would be better suited without blinkers at its next start. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 3: Schneider Electric H’cap – 1800m
1st – Perfect Punch 2nd – Anton En Avant 3rd – Courtz Boy 4th – Mightysui

The start of this race was delayed to hold for an interstate event.

Shortly after the start DUILIO (B El-Issa) shifted out and bumped MIGHTYSUI (J Morris) which in turn bumped ANTON EN AVANT (C Schmidt).

EASY LAGER (J Greacen) over-raced during the middle stages of the event.

When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of PERFECT PUNCH, Trainer M Brosnan noted that the gelding had not been suited to the shorter distance of 1300m at its last start. Ms Brosnan further noted that two starts ago PERFECT PUNCH had raced in a listed race and as such was dropping in class today. Ms Brosnan added that PERFECT PUNCH had also performed best when placed over distances similar to that of today and as such she had been confident of an improved performance. Stewards noted her explanation.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on MIGHTYSUI, Trainer T Crane stated that he instructed jockey Morris to obtain a position with cover behind the leaders as he was of the view that there was early speed in today’s race and furthermore, that MIGHTYSUI over-raced in the lead at its last start. Mr Crane added that as a result of the strong tempo in the early stages today MIGHTYSUI was obliged to race further back than anticipated. His explanation was noted.

MIGHTYSUI cast its off hind plate in running.

Race 4: Schneider Buildings 2YO Maiden Plated – 1400m
1st – Asthecourtcommands 2nd – Lost Thief 3rd – Torpedo 4th – Grappa Brandy

The start was delayed when GRAPPA BRANDY (M Hellyer) underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers after making contact with the running rail during the preliminary. GRAPPA BRANDY was subsequently cleared to start.

The start was further delayed when LIGHT ‘N’ SHADE (S Galloway) had to be re-saddled before being placed in the barriers.

FLINDERS DRAGON (P Holmes) reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer D Bougoure was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of FLINDERS DRAGON.

IN HER ELEMENT (B El-Issa) and TALE BLAZER (G Cooksley) were slow to begin.

FREDRIKSEN (C Small), TALE BLAZER and MISS BELLA ROSA (T Treichel) raced wide throughout the event.

Passing the 700m LOST THIEF (M Vance) had to be eased when placed in restricted room between ASTHECOURTCOMMANDS (C Schmidt) and FREDRIKSEN.

Jockey M Hellyer reported that GRAPPA BRANDY was inclined to race greenly and was placed in restricted room during the middle stages of the event. As a result GRAPPA BRANDY lost ground passing the 500m.

Jockey V Colgan reported that it was not his intention to lead on LAREBIL today however, the gelding raced strongly during the early stages of the event and as such he allowed LAREBIL to stride forward to obtain the lead.

Race 5: The Bluestar Cup Ratings Band H’cap – 1800m
1st – Goomah Gal 2nd – Life Patrol 3rd – All in Time 4th – Leprechaun Lad

LEPRECHAUN LAD (M Hellyer) over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event.

PEPSTEP (V Colgan) raced wide throughout the event.

LEPRECHAUN LAD was held up rounding the home turn and upon straightening had to be steadied when tightened for room between HABSBURG (G Cooksley) and HAKAKUNA (S Fawke) which shifted out. App. Fawke was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.

Approaching the 100m HAKAKUNA had to be steadied when tightened for room between LUCK AND FAME (B El-Issa) and ALL IN TIME (P Holmes) both of which shifted ground when under pressure.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of ANONYMISS KITTY, App. C Schmidt stated that from the wide barrier today, she was obliged to take up a position at the rear of the field. Nonetheless, she expressed her disappointment in the filly’s performance. Trainer K Schweida will be interviewed at a later date.

Jockey P Holmes (ALL IN TIME) was fined the sum of $300 for weighing back in, in excess of the permitted ½ kg.

Jockey J Morris (MAXIMUM CASH) was fined the sum of $100 for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than the number of permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 6: The Industry Class 2 H’cap – 2200m
1st – Billabong Bird 2nd – Iniquity 3rd – Strategic Shadow 4th – Lucky Day Kid

KEY LODGE (J Morris) and KAZAN (M Hellyer) were slow to begin.

ROYAL LAKE (B El-Issa) raced wide during the early stages of the event.

KEY LODGE which over-raced during the early and middle stages of the event improved onto the heels of ELEGANTLY (V Colgan) approaching the 1200m, shifted out and inconvenienced KAZAN.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on LUCKY DAY KID which settled towards the rear of the field today in contrast to its recent starts, App. C Schmidt stated that after beginning only fairly from the wide barrier she was concerned that she was going to be caught 3 wide so she elected to restrain LUCKY DAY KID to obtain cover. As a consequence LUCKY DAY KID was forced to race further back in the field than originally anticipated. Her explanation was noted.

Race 7: the Loan City Electrical Class 3 H’cap – 1300m
1st – Rainbow Magic 2nd – Cash In 3rd – Foxbat 4th – Turiff

Trainer T Edmonds advised that his instructions would be for DOLPHUS (J Morris) not to lead today as it had at its last start and instead would instruct the rider to obtain cover should circumstances permit. When attempting to obtain cover DOLPHUS was caught wide in the early stages when over-racing and as a result Jockey Morris was obliged to further restrain DOLPHUS near the 800m to obtain cover behind ROMAN WATERS (B Powell).

RAINBOW MAGIC (J Kokotajlo) and NEPTUNE PALACE (C Schmidt) were slow to begin.

I AM BUT A FOOL (M Hellyer) and NEPTUNE PALACE raced wide throughout the event.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on CASH IN, Jockey V Colgan stated that he rode the gelding in a similar position outside the leader at its last start. Jockey Colgan added that despite the slow tempo in the early stages he was content to sit off FOXBAT (B El-Issa) instead of allowing CASH IN to stride forward to the lead. His explanation was noted.

I AM BUT A FOOL (M Hellyer) lost both hind plates in running.
