29th November 2003
Stewards Panel: D Macklyn ( chairman) R Doyle
Weather: Fine Track: Sand Rail: True
Race1: Class 3 hcp 1194 mtrs (5 starters)
No racing incidents to report.
Race 2:Open hcp 1194 mtrs (5 starters)
Trainer of Athene's Star, Angela Stephens reported that the mare had returned to scale with a small laceration to the off side front fetlock joint.
Race 3: Class B hcp 1000 mtrs (8 starters)
Gillette (C Beets) slipped as the start was affected and as a result was slow away.
On returning to scale app. jockey Tracey Matherson rider of second placed Rerun lodged a protest against Valhulla (J Stephens) being declared the winner alleging interference at about the 900 mtrs. It was established that Valhulla (J Stephens) had shifted inwards abruptly, forcing Belltang (B Appo) inwards which in turn caused Rerun (T Mathieson) having to steady off heels. After taking evidence from jockey's, connections, and after viewing the patrol film, stewards dismissed the protest. In reaching their decision stewards agreed that Valhulla had indeed shifted but the interference suffered to Rerun did not warrant the reversal of placings.
Shortly after the race Gillette bled from both nostrils and subsequently has been barred from racing for the mandatory 3 month period.
Race 4: Maiden hcp 1000 mtrs (10 starters)
No racing incidents to report.
Race 5: Class 6 hcp 1517 mtrs (5 starters)
No racing incidents to report.
All winners were sent to be swabbed with samples obtained forwarded to the racing science centre for analysis.
