Race 1: Greg Gilbert Builders Benchmark 65 Handicap 1400m

Trainer J. Byrne was fined $50 for failing to enact a gear change to remove the blinkers off CYRANO.

After viewing the stewards' patrol footage, B. Stower, the rider of GENERAL SORRISO, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against SEAZA (L. Appo) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the film, stewards found that SEAZA shifted in marginally near the 150m placing GENERAL SORRISO in restricted room, SEAZA again shifted in slightly near the 50m resulting in GENERAL SORRISO shifting away from the runner and becoming unbalanced when brushing the running rail. In considering the interference suffered by GENERAL SORRISO at the relevant points, stewards could not be satisfied that the amount of ground lost at that point exceeded the margin between both horses at the finish, therefore the protest was dismissed and correct weight semaphored on the Judge's placing’s.

WEEDREAMED (S. Apthorpe) was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.

CYRANO (A. Taylor) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Race 2: Lynch Insurance Services Maiden Handicap 1400m

The start of this race was delayed when TOM’S BREAK (L. Appo) proved difficult to load. Trainer S. McEwan will be advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of TOM’S BREAK.

TOM’S BREAK began awkwardly.

Near the 800m TOM’S BREAK hung out resulting in LE BONX CHONX (A. Taylor) shifting out to avoid that runner’s heels and in doing so was steadied from the heels of TOYHERO, OZICROWN which was racing to the outside was also inconvenienced as a result.

LE BONX CHONX raced wide from the 800m.

SELDEEN raced wide throughout.

Near the 600m OZICROWN raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of TOM’S BREAK which had commenced to weaken and shifted in slightly.

FIERY GIRL (J. Letherby) hung out rounding the home turn and in the home straight resulting in the rider being unable to fully test his mount.

Race 3: XXXX Gold Goondiwindi Gold Cup Open Handicap 1400m

After viewing the stewards' patrol footage, B. Stower, the rider of SELL THE SILVER, placed 3rd by the Judge, lodged an objection against MIMICS (J. Hoopert) being declared 2nd by the judge, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the film, stewards found that MIMICS had gradually shifted in under pressure in the straight and near the 50m placed SELL THE SILVER in restricted room which was eased as a result. In considering the interference suffered by SELLTHE SILVER at the relevant point, stewards could not be satisfied that the amount of ground lost at that point exceeded the margin between both horses at the finish, therefore the protest was dismissed and correct weight semaphored on the Judge's placing’s. At a subsequent inquiry, J. Hoopert was reprimanded and advised to make greater effort to straighten his mounts when they shift ground.

SELL THE SILVER began awkwardly.

SEZWHO (N. Tomizawa) raced wide throughout.

Race 4: Deans Panel Works Class B Handicap 1200m

CARRY THE PRESENT (D. McIntosh) jumped in at the start and bumped LIKE A BIRD (N. Tomizawa).

SYRUS (A. Merritt) began awkwardly and lost ground.

ARE TEE ESS (J. Letherby) was slow to begin.

Near the 800m CARRY THE PRESENT (D. McIntosh) which had commenced to overrace, improved onto the heels of LIKE A BIRD (N. Tomizawa) and was steadied, CARRY THE PRESENT then got its head up and shifted in and crowded MISS CARTER (G. Snowden) which was eased.

Near the 700m SYRUS shifted out and away from HEART’N SOUL (J. Hoopert) which forced RAISE THE BID (A. Taylor) wider on the track, RAISE THE BID then raced wide for the remainder of the event.

HEART’N SOUL raced wide throughout.

Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the home turn where CARRY THE PRESENT (D. McIntosh) was checked and lost ground when racing between HEART’N SOUL (J. Hoopert) and MISS CARTER (G. Snowden). After taking evidence from all riders involved, and viewing the official patrol footage, stewards could not apportion blame against any rider due to conflicting evidence and inconclusive race patrol footage. All riders were advised however to afford sufficient racing room to their fellow riders. CHROMED (B. Stower) which was following CARRY THE PRESENT was inconvenienced in this incident.

HEART’N SOUL was eased from the heels of CHROMED which shifted in approaching the winning post. Apprentice B. Stower was reprimanded and advised to stop riding and straighten her mounts in similar circumstances.

Race 5: Ascot Lodge Motor Inn Group Maiden Plate 1000m

A pre-race veterinary inspection of WRITTENINTHERAIN cleared that gelding to race.

BIAMINARDI (J. Hoopert) which shifted in at the start and bumped AUTUMN CHILL (J.Letherby) then shifted out and tightened the running of TEMPER TRAP (L. Appo) which lost ground.

TEMPER TRAP was continually restrained from the 850m until leaving the 600m after improving quickly up in between runners and being awkwardly placed of heels.

WRITTENINTHERAIN (S. Apthorpe) shifted out rounding the home turn resulting in TEMPER TRAP having to shift back to the inside of that runner’s heels. S. Apthorpe was advised to exercise care

BIA MINARDI raced wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of TEMPER TRAP revealed the gelding to have sustained lacerations to its near fore leg which required veterinary attention. Trainer R. Smith will be advised that she must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding being permitted racing again.
