RACE ONE Maiden Handicap 1100 Metres 5 Starters
At the start HOY OI (App L.Buckingham) was slow into stride and then raced wide on the track from the 600mtr turn. GOLD METTLE (App T.Ono) jumped away awkwardly and shifted outwards abruptly at the 900mtr mark. CIRCUM PACIFIC (App D.Crossland) raced very ungenerously from the start until the home turn.


RACE TWO Open Handicap 1000 Metres 6 Starters
MANNDO (App D.Crossland) reared as the gates opened and hung inwards for the entire journey of the event.


RACE THREE Class 3 Plate 1100 Metres 6 Starters
As the gates opened COURT ANCHOR (App L.Buckingham) jumped outwards and made heavy contact with JUNKETS (F.Edwards). At the 800mtr mark MORRIE’S FINITO (App D.Crossland) hung inwards sharply.


RACE FOUR Weight For Age 1360 Metres 3 Starters
RED SAVAGE (App G.Porter) shifted outwards at the 200mtr mark to obtain a clear run and in doing so made contact with TATAURANGI (App D.Crossland).


RACE FIVE Class 3 Handicap 1700 Metres 11 Starters
Stewards ordered that announcements be made throughout the day advising of an error in Prizemoney which appeared in the racebook, in particular the Trophy for the winner which appeared as $180 trophy to the owner, but should have read $100 trophy to the owner and a $80 trophy to the winning Jockey. Jockey I.Toward replaced Jockey M.Campbell as the rider of JETBAT, when Jockey Campbell failed to attend the meeting. Stewards intent to interview Jockey Campbell in the near future as to the reason for his non attendance at the race meeting. As the gates opened NEONATURAL (App S.Morris) jumped outwards and made heavy contact with KOSICE (App D.Crossland). JETBAT (I.Toward) jumped away very awkwardly. Iruka (R.Ryan) jumped outwards and made contact with SING MY PRAISES (P.Crich) which dwelt marginally at the start. IRUKA (R.Ryan) raced wide on the track when rounding the home turn. At the 100mtr mark IRUKA (R.Ryan) was being steadied to avoid racing up onto the heels of MATINSK (G.Kliese), this caused IRUKA to over-react and shift outwards which inconvenienced SING MY PRAISES (P.Crich).


RACE SIX Open Handicap 1800 Metres 10 Starters
App S.Morris replaced Jockey M.Campbell as the rider of HAKIM. ALLEZ SLEW (F.Edwards) over-raced and was reluctant to settle soon after jumping. When leaving the straight for the first time HAKIM (App S.Morris) shifted inwards marginally, causing McPALATIAL (App D.Crossland) to be taken inwards which then placed PRETTY FOX (R.Ryan) into restricted racing room and was steadied. Both PROUD HARVEST (K.Rockett) and ALLEZ SLEW (F.Edwards) was travelling behind this incident and had to be steadied. Stewards issued Apprentice S.Morris with a severe reprimand in relation to this incident, and further advised him to show more care in the future. Apprentice S.Morris reported to the Stewards that he steadied his mount HAKIM when rounding the home turn.


GENERAL REPORT:
Stewards today concluded their inquiries into an incident which occurred during the running of race three at the Cairns Jockey Club’s race meeting on the 15th September 2001. After taking further evidence from Jockey M.Johnston, Stewards noted the evidence before them and took no further action.
