TRACK: SAND
STEWARDS: C. CLIFFORD (CHAIRMAN), J. HACKETT,
G. IRELAND, W. FLYNN

RACE 1 NORTH COAST FROZEN FOODS MAIDEN HCP – 850M

SQUIRTIE BOY jumped outwards at the start. A short distance after the start, SO HAPPY shifted in, tightening KWILA GORILLA onto DOOLIN which was a little slow to jump. PARAGINI was slow to jump.

SQUIRTIE BOY was obliged to race wide for the majority of the race.

Shortly after entering the straight, DOOLIN was momentarily tightened by TRANQUIL LAD which shifted in.

RACE 2 CONNOLLY NEWS CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 850M

DRUM COUNTY was a late scratching at approximately 12.58pm when the horse failed to arrive on course due to a transport breakdown.

PHOTISM and COUNT IZON broke through the barriers and both horses were examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race. COUNT IZON was a little slow to jump.

RACE 3 CRAIGLEA STUD SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1150M

CAWDOR CROW and MISS IMPRESSION were both late scratchings at 1.35pm due to transport breakdown.

A. Merritt was replaced by A. Morrison on SIR TO YOU as Merritt was indisposed.

SIR TO YOU was slow to jump and raced wide throughout. A veterinary examination following the race revealed no abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from SIR TO YOU.

A protest was lodged by C. Eaton, the rider of OSHAWA placed 5th, against SIR TO YOU, A. Morrison 4th past the post, on the grounds of alleged interference on the home turn. After hearing evidence from the riders and viewing the film, Stewards were of the opinion that the ground lost by OSHAWA in this incident exceeded the margin between both horses at the finish and therefore UPHELD the objection and the judges placings were amended to:

1st CROWN HEIR
2nd MISTER NEWS
3rd RON’S XENA
4th OSHAWA
5th SIR TO YOU
RACE 3 (Continued)

TATIANA’S TOUCH, which was inclined to race ungenerously when in restricted room inside SIR TO YOU and CROWN HEIR, became unbalanced and lost ground near the 600 metres.

RON’S XENA, which was tiring over the concluding stages, had a tendency to shift inwards despite the efforts of its rider.

Jockey D. Griffin reported that CROWN HEIR wanted to lay in throughout the race.

RACE 4 JIGSAW PERSONNEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1150M

The start of this race was delayed due to LADY BE COOL rearing and falling behind the barriers. As a consequence of falling, the horse sustained head injuries and following advice from the veterinary surgeon, the horse was withdrawn at 2.37pm. All monies invested on LADY BE COOL were ordered to be refunded in full and the deductions were made in accordance with the Racing and Betting Act, 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket, 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of the place ticket.

GOLD RESERVE was tightened between CANNY DESIGN and BIANCO’S IMAGE which jumped inwards at the start. O’SAVANA blundered badly and lost ground on jumping.

FULL BROTHER, which was slow to jump, failed to travel well in the early stages and commenced to yield ground near the 800 metres and finished a distant last. The connections of FULL BROTHER were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse and that as a result of its failure to handle the sand surface, they should consider restricting its racing to grass tracks.

Shortly after straightening, CANNY DESIGN shifted in abruptly and made contact with SON A BOW forcing that horse inwards.

RACE 5 EMPLOYMENT NATIONAL CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1150M

J. Fleming was severely reprimanded for failing to claim his full allowance of FIRES OF IRELAND.

FIRES OF IRELAND and OZZEL were slow to begin.

C. Clarke was severely reprimanded for permitting PARIS RUN to shift in approaching the first turn, causing HARD BID and WE’RE LAUGHING to be tightened for room. In this incident HARD BID lost its position when racing inside PARIS RUN.

When under pressure rounding the home turn, FLYING CARD became unbalanced and lost ground when it shifted in and struck the running rail of its own accord.

RACE 6 COOLOOLA SHIRE HANDICAP – 1150M

Shortly after the start, CAPTAIN IVOR which was a little slow to begin, was hampered when TIME TABLE shifted out.
RACE 6 (Continued)

Near the 850 metres, TIME TABLE, which had a tendency to shift out, had to be steadied off the heels of TRULY MISS TRULY and lost ground.

GEM’S HOOD, which compounded and retired from the race, was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon who confirmed that the horse had haemorrhaged from both nostrils. GEM’S HOOD was declared ineligible to race for a period of three months and a swab sample was taken.

RACE 7 NOLAN MEATS GYMPIE MUSTER CUP HANDICAP – 1600M

MIGHTY EEL was slow to jump.

SHARP ROAD shifted out making the home turn, taking HERARDE and MIGHTY EEL wider on the track.

RACE 8 CARLTON BREWERIES CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1600M

JESTICA blundered badly on jumping away. CURRAJONG KING was slow to jump. TEKWILA jumped in at the start and made contact with SAHARA SOUND shortly after.

After travelling a short distance, DAVE’S ROCKET shifted in and made contact with FLOSS THE BOSS. A short distance later, DAVE’S ROCKET became unbalanced when it came into contact with ARISTIDA and was buffeted between ARISTIDA and FLOSS THE BOSS. As a consequence on this incident, FLOSS THE BOSS blundered when it struck the heels of JESTICA.

I SEE RED made the first turn awkwardly, taking CURRAJONG KING wider on the track.

The connections of DAVE’S ROCKET, which performed poorly, were instructed to restrict the horse racing to tracks other than TAB meetings until the horse races competitvely.

All winners, SIR TO YOU and GEM’S HOOD were swabbed.

GENERAL

The club’s veterinary Dr. Fisher reported that LADY BE COOL which injured itself at the barriers prior to the start of race 4, was euthanased on humane grounds after the horse failed to recover.
