Race 1: GYMPIE BLOCKWORKS MAIDEN PLATE 850M.
1st – CRAIGLE APOLLO 2nd – CRAIGLEA CYCLONE 3rd – LUISVILLE SLUGGER 4th – BELLA PRINCIPESSA
The start of this race was significantly delayed when a number of horses became fractious in the barriers. MIDNIGHTMARE (J Kropp) broke through the barriers on two occasions and was restrained by its rider a short distance later and returned to the barriers. CRAIGLEA APOLLO (L Appo) and BELLA PRINCIPESSA (I Coombes) also broke through the barriers on one occasion and were restrained by their riders and returned to the barriers. CRAIGLEA CYCLONE (A Kitson), CLOVELLY ROSE (C Kearney) and CRAIGLEA CHIMES (D McWinney) were all very fractious and reared in the barriers. All runners underwent a veterinary examination by the clubs veterinary surgeon and were passed fit to start.
TARASAI (P Timbery) was tightened on jumping away between BELLA MONTANA (B Calkin) and ZAHOO (M Heagney) which shifted out.
MIDNIGHTMARE (J Kropp) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
CRAIGLEA APOLLO had a tendency to hang out rounding the home turn.
MIDNIGHTMARE, BELLA MONTANA and ZAHOO all raced wide throughout.
Stewards intend to question trainer Mr G Grainger in relation to the pre race behaviour of BELLA MONTANA.
Correct weight was delayed when the connections of MIDNIGHTMARE (J Kropp) and TARASAI (P Timbery) made application to the stewards to be declared non runners on the basis that they were not afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from the connections of both horses and starter Mr M Bailey, and viewing the stewards patrol footage, stewards were of the opinion that both MIDNIGHTMARE and TARASAI were both given full opportunity to jump with the field and therefore declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored by the judge.
Race 2: HARVEY WORLD TRAVEL CLASS B HANDICAP 1465M.
1st – RIO MAGIC 2nd – BOOFHEAD 3rd – GOROKA 4th – STEORRA
SO LONG (R Hancock) was slow to begin.
BUENA CHAVA (B Calkin) was tightened on jumping away between RIO MAGIC (C Kearney) and BOOFHEAD (A Kitson) both of which shifted ground.
WILLIAMSTOWN (I Coombes) commenced to hang out leaving the 1100m and did so for some distance thereafter.
BUENA CHAVA raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race.
Race 3: GYMPIE FOAM AND RUBBER MAIDEN PLATE 1150M.
1st – QUITE STYLISH 2nd – SWIFT CASH 3rd – FRISCO’S DIAMOND 4th – BEACH KINGS
Correct weight was delayed to allow connections of SWIFT CASH to view the official print. Due to an equipment malfunction the photo print was unavailable for this race. After taking evidence from connections of SWIFT CASH, Stewards confirmed the judge’s placing and correct weight was given. Stewards opened an inquiry into the circumstances which led to the photo finish system failure; evidence was taken from Mr C Jeffrey (judge) and Mr S Jeffrey (assistant judge/photo fish operator). A full report will be furnished to the Chief Steward of Queensland Racing.
QUITE STYLISH (P Timbery) was slow to begin.
MY BEAUTY (M Heagney) jumped out at the start making contact with FROZEN TIME (J Kropp).
Shortly after the start STALWART FLIGHT (L Appo) commenced to lay out despite the efforts of its rider, taking ROYAL RETINUE (C Kearney) out onto TARMAC (S Holcombe), which was forced out, resulting in GENUINE SIN (C Priest) having to be steadied.
MISTER TATT (G Auckram) and FROZEN TIME raced wide throughout.
Race 4: GYMPIE WEST STORE & SERVICE STATION CLASS 3 PLATE.
1st – MONTE PRIMO 2nd – SCENT OF GOLD 3rd – BRAIN EXPLOSION 4th – MR MONTGOMERY
MONTE PRIMO (C Kearney), RED TREASURE (L Appo) and HARDLY A GAME (M Heagney) were all tightened for room on jumping away between DELTA TRIX (J Kropp) and SCENT OF GOLD (D McWinney) both of which shifted ground.
Leaving the 1000m KOPATAROA (G Auckram) shifted out making contact with DELTA TRIX, which then shifted out resulting in HARDLY A GAME having to be steadied off the heels of SCENT OF GOLD.
Race 5: ZINC 96.1 OPEN HANDICAP 1150M.
