OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – T. Quick
Stewards – W. Moore
Clerk of Scales – J. Pulham
Judge – C. Jeffery
Veterinarian – Dr T. Fisher
Swab attendant – Dr T. Fisher
Starter – G. Honeywil, M. Bailey

Race 1: Cooloola Trophies & Engraving Open H’cap – 1030m
1st – Noname 2nd – Frenardi 3rd – Challoman 4th – She’ll Be Dancing

FRENARDI (App S. Wiseman) jumped in at the start and bumped CHALLOMAN (I. Coombes).

SHE’LL BE DANCING (App E. O’Connell) was slow to begin.

Race 2: Billy’s Mdn Plt – 1170m
1st – Leica Fuse 2nd – Falfario 3rd – Izachamp 4th – Utah Jazz

FALFARIO (I. Coombes) was fractious in the barriers and jumped in the air as the start was effected.

HOLCOMB (App D. McWhinney) was tightened for room on jumping away between ALENA’S ARK (App S. Wiseman) and CASHEL BLUE (App E. O’Connell) both of which shifted ground.

IZACHAMP (App G. Goold) threw its head in the air as the start was effected and lost ground as a result.

FRENCH NOBLE (M. Hughes) and DOLPHINS DAUGHTER (J. Hoopert) bumped at the start.

FRENCH NOBLE and AMANDAS GRACE (J. Hoopert) raced wide in the early stages of the event.

Passing the 400m, ALENA’S ARK improved up on to the heels of the tiring CAM’S MAGIC (App J. King), which shifted in slightly, and had to be steadied.

LADY GOWER (C. Kearney) was inclined to lay-in under pressure in the early part of the straight.

Stewards sought an explanation from M. Hughes regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of FRENCH NOBLE. Jockey Hughes stated that after the gelding began awkwardly it travelled well until the 600m but did not respond when put under pressure at that point. He added that he did not believe the gelding appreciated running on the sand surface.

Stewards questioned Trainer T. Malseed regarding his plans with DOLPHINS DAUGHTER which finished a distant last. Mr Malseed expressed disappointment with the run today, and stated that it was his intention to give the mare one more chance to show improved form and that would be in a race of further distance than today’s event and on a grass surface. A post-race veterinary examination of DOLPHINS DAUGHTER did not reveal any abnormalities.

Trainer M. Mair reported to stewards following the race that LADY GOWER had suffered a bleeding attack. Mr Mair was advised that the mare would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months and would need to satisfactorily gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to being permitted to race.

Race 3: Born Creative Class B H’cap – 1170m
1st – Persian Sea 2nd – Alriodane 3rd – Magic Turbo 4th – Craiglea Smokie

SEQUALO GOLD (S. Bayliss) and CRAIGLEA SMOKIE (App S. Wiseman) were tightened for room at the start between SIGNIFICANT ACT (I. Coombes) and PERSIAN SEA (G. Killen) which shifted out.

BREAK THE BLUES (J. Hoopert) began awkwardly.

TWO AND A HALF MEN (App D. McWhinney) and FRIENDLY MUSIC (App G. Goold) were both slow to begin.

USTON (App B-R. Derbyshire) was tightened for room shortly after the start between SIGNIFICANT ACT and MAGIC TURBO (App E. O’Connell) which shifted in.

TWO AND A HALF MEN and ALRIODANE (C. Kearney) raced wide in the early stages.

At approximately the 300m mark, CRAIGLEA SMOKIE improved up on to the heels of the tiring SEQUALO GOLD, and while attempting to be steadied, struck that horse’s heels and blundered when racing in restricted room on the rail.

S. Bayliss reported, when queried by stewards, that SEQUALO GOLD travelled well until placed under pressure near the 400m where it began to lay-in and he was disappointed with its efforts over the concluding stages. Trainer T. Freeman reported that SEQUALO GOLD lost both fore plates in running. Ms Freeman was issued with a reprimand for failing to enact a correct gear change request for SEQUALO GOLD.

Stewards questioned App B-R. Derbyshire regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of USTON. App Derbyshire stated that the gelding knuckled at the start which resulted in her losing her footing in one of her irons and after regaining her footing, they were then not as close to the lead as she had anticipated. She added that she was happy with the way USTON finished the race off.

Stewards inquired into the seemingly improved performance of PERSIAN SEA. Trainer W. Lawson stated that he believed the change of rider today resulted in the improved performance as he was able to get the mare to begin well and race where it was more comfortable than at its most recent starts. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Mr Lawson for the reason why there was a late gear change request for PERSIAN SEA.

A post-race veterinary examination of MAGIC TURBO revealed the gelding had suffered a bleeding attack. Trainer M. Hassam was advised that MAGIC TURBO would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months and would need to satisfactorily gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to being permitted to race.

Race 4: Supporting the McGrath Foundation Class 3 Plt – 1470m
1st – Metaphysical 2nd – Barnesy 3rd – Arabia 4th – Tickle the Kitty

The declaration of correct weight on this event was delayed to allow ARABIA’s jockey J. Hoopert and trainer W. Lawson to view the patrol footage of the race in the home straight to ascertain whether they had grounds to lodge an objection against the 2nd placegetter. After viewing the film the connections of ARABIA declined to proceed with a protest and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

ESCUDILLA (M. Hughes) blundered at the start.

MIO AMICO (App D. McWhinney) and TICKLE THE KITTY (App G. Goold) were slow to begin.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, FUZZALAMA (App J. King), which was over-racing, shifted in and away from ESCUDILLA, which shifted in slightly, tightening the running of ARABIA (J. Hoopert) which had to be steadied as a result.

GALLUS (App B-R. Derbyshire) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

MIO AMICO raced wide from a point nearing the 700m.

ARABIA was held up for clear running on the heels of BARNESY (G. Killen) from the 200m to a point approaching the 50m.

Stewards inquired into the seemingly disappointing performance of SWIFT CASH. I. Coombes reported the mare travelled well, although caught 3-deep, but did not respond to his urgings from the 500m. He added that he believed the mare was going to be sent for a spell.

Trainer S. Thomas reported to stewards on Sunday that GALLUS had swelling to his near fore knee and would be sent for a spell.

Race 5: Zinc 96 Open H’cap – 1470m
1st – Try Some Magic 2nd – Jyi’s Prospect 3rd – Willyclang 4th – Craiglea Tina

TRY SOME MAGIC (App S. Wiseman) was slow to begin.

CRAIGLEA TINA (App J. King) was tightened for room at the start and raced in restricted room up to a point passing the winning post on the first occasion between IMPOSING ROYAL (S. Bayliss) which shifted out and JYI’S PROSPECT (J. Hoopert) which shifted in.

WILLYCLANG (App D. McWhinney) and BRENNAN (B-R. Derbyshire) raced wide throughout.

Apprentice J. King was issued with a reprimand for leaving the jockey’s room prior to receiving permission to do so.
