Supplementary

Stewards inquired into a complaint lodged by licensed bookmaker Mr G. Hunt regarding the conduct of Mr T. Bernardin who had placed a wager with Mr Hunt on Race 4 of today's program. Mr Bernardin also lodged a complaint regarding the conduct of Mr Hunt. After hearing evidence from both parties, it was established that Mr Bernardin had placed a wager with Mr Hunt for the horse NERO'S FIRE to win. Mr Hunt had paid out Mr Bernardin prior to correct weight being declared. On notification of correct weight, which resulted in the Judge amending his placings, Mr Hunt approached Mr Bernardin for his winnings to be returned. Mr Bernardin did return the winnings to Mr Hunt, however later sought the return of his stake from Mr Hunt. A verbal altercation then ensued. Stewards ruled that as on face value, the ticket held by Mr Bernardin was a losing wager, no orders could be made to Mr Hunt to return the original stake. Mr Hunt did, however, return a substantial proportion of Mr Bernardin's original stake.

Race 1: Gympie West Store & Service Station Class B Handicap 850m

1st – Sufferin Succotash 2nd- Inthanon 3rd- Ukok Lass 4th- Theatre Prince

SUFFERIN SUCCOTASH (D. Gill) and WHAT A TYCOON (T. Huxham) both began awkwardly and lost ground.

Race 2: Bridgestone Tyre Service Class 2 Handicap 1030m

1st – Unique Fuse 2nd- Magic Turbo 3rd- Otago 4th- Star Giggle

LILLAVARDEE (B. Appo) and MAGIC TURBO (B. Newport) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from B. Appo regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of LILLAVARDEE. He stated that his instructions were to be in a forward position, and after obtaining a position outside the leader, the mare travelled comfortably until a point near the 400m, where placed under pressure the mare failed to respond to his riding. Trainer K. Munce could offer no tangible explanation for the performance of LILLAVARDEE today. He subsequently reported that the mare was showing signs of a seasonal condition following the race, and that he would have further blood tests carried out. Mr Munce undertook to report to stewards the findings of these blood tests, and anything further that may come to light in the following days. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3: Deens Electrical Maiden Plate 1170m

1st – Guaranteed Success 2nd- Dame Cass 3rd- Garrison Express 4th- Hooded Destiny

LORD KEWARTIN (I. Coombes), SHADY DEAL (J. Kropp), GARRISON EXPRESS (B. Newport) and NAKOMA STAR (L. Tarrant) were all slow to begin.

PRINCESS PEACH (L. Appo) raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

D. Gill, the rider of HOODED DESTINY, reported that the filly hung out throughout the event, placing her at a disadvantage. Trainer M. Hassam was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners. Ms Hassam advised it was her intention to now spell the filly.

Race 4: Advice Partners Benchmark 70 Handicap 1170m

1st – Frenardi 2nd- Nero's Fire 3rd- Before the Storm 4th- Stock Market

Correct weight was delayed after the Judge advised Stewards that the photo finish equipment had failed, and that he wished to view the Stewards race footage to confirm his semaphored numbers of No. 3 – NERO'S FIRE, No. 1 – FRENARDI, No. 4- BEFORE THE STORM and No. 7 – STOCK MARKET. Trainer of FRENARDI, Mr K. Munce, also wished to exercise his right to view the photo finish. On review of the race footage, Judge Mr C. Jeffrey advised Stewards he wished to amend his placings to read No. 1 – FRENARDI, No. 3 – NERO'S FIRE, No. 4 – BEFORE THE STORM and No. 7 STOCK MARKET.

After being advised of the Judge's amended numbers, Trainer J. Johnston lodged an objection to the Judge's placings on the grounds that the race footage was inconclusive. Stewards after considering the objection from Mr Johnston, evidence from Judge Mr C. Jeffrey, and the available race footage, could not be comfortably satisfied on the evidence that the Judge had made an error in his placings, and acting under the provisions of AR.156, declared correct weight on the Judge's amended numbers of 1, 3, 4 and 7.

HONOUR GUARD (J. Kropp) was slow to begin.

STALWART EMMA (L. Tarrant) was tightened shortly after the start between FRENARDI (B. Appo) and STOCK MARKET (B. Newport) which shifted out.

CANE CHAMPAGNE (L. Appo) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

HONOUR GUARD raced wide throughout.

Race 5: Zinc 96.1 Class 3 Plate 1470m

1st – Troilus Fuse 2nd- Stalwart Reign 3rd- Weekend Shopper 4th- Challoman

CHALLOMAN (B. Newport) and EL CONDE (B. Derbyshire) made contact on jumping away.

TROILUS FUSE (D. Gill) was inclined to hang out the majority of the event. D. Gill reported that after entering the home straight, TROILUS FUSE baulked at the barriers located to the inside of the track, and at several structures located to the outside of the track, resulting in the gelding momentarily losing momentum.

CHALLOMAN raced wide the majority of the event.

A post race veterinary examination of REMY MARTINI which compounded over the final 400m did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer K. Munce advised that the gelding would now be spelled.

A post race veterinary examination of EL CONDE revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg and shoulder. Trainer K. Munce advised that the gelding would now be retired from racing. Mr Munce was advised that if his intentions to retire the gelding changed, a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to EL CONDE being permitted to trial or race again.
