RACE 1: CLASS 1 HDCP 1030 Metres
The start of this event was delayed approx. 8 minutes due to the late arrival of an ambulance.
The start was further delayed when KOOL HEAVEN (J Missen), after being loaded, was removed from the barriers to allow a tongue tie to be replaced.
WILD MAX (C Kearney) was slow to begin.
VISION AND VALUES (V Venkaya) stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground. A short distance later VISION AND VALUE attempted to buck, resulting in jockey Venkaya being dislodged. The gelding subsequently galloped riderless for one lap of the track and broke through the outside running rail before being recaptured. Trainers representative for Mr P Duff was advised VISION AND VALUES would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Jockey V Venkaya was examined by ambulance officials and advised a medical clearance would be required before riding again.
WESTERN MAIZCAY (App R Payne) raced wide throughout.
Near the 600metres BOOLES N’ BOODLES ( A Merritt) was hampered when ALAZANI (App B Derbyshire) shifted in momentarily.
At the completion of the event, App T Williams, rider of GLENROCK MAX, was unable to restrain that gelding despite her efforts and galloped one lap of the track when GLENROCK MAX over-raced fiercely due to the riderless VISION AND VALUES galloping to its immediate outside. As a result App Williams was examined by ambulance officials and cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.
RACE 2: MAIDEN HDCP 1170 Metres
On return to scale a protest was lodged by App R Payne, rider of third placegetter LA DINGALING against first past the post AMARANTA (App B Derbyshire) for alleged interference near the 100 metres. Further a protest was lodged by I Coombes, rider of 4th placegetter WAVERLEY HEIGHTS against 3rd placegetter LA DINGALING (App R Payne) for alleged interference near the 50 metres. In regards to the protest 3rd versus 1st stewards found that near the 100 metres AMARANTA shifted in under hard riding resulting in LA DINGALING being checked and was then obliged to shift out across the heels of AMARANTA to obtain clear running. Bearing in mind the .75 lengths margin and where the incident took place stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the incident not occurred LA DINGALING would have finished ahead of AMARANTA and therefore dismissed the protest.
In regards to the protest 4th versus 3rd stewards found that after being checked near the 100 metres LA DINGALING did shift out marginally and a short distance later near the 50 metres brushed WAVERLEY HEIGHTS, however were of the opinion this brush was of a minor nature and had no bearing on the finishing position of both runners and subsequently dismissed the protest.
At a subsequent inquiry App B Derbyshire, rider of AMARANTA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 100 metres she permitted her mount to shift in under pressure when insufficiently clear of LA DINGALING resulting in that runner having to be checked. The riding licence of App Derbyshire was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence midnight 28th June up to and including 8th July 2014.
ALASTAIR’S CROWN (L Appo) was slow to begin.
CZEBRAY (W Abbey), after beginning awkwardly, shifted out abruptly a short distance later and lost ground. Trainer H Brown was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners. CZEBRAY raced wide for the majority of the event from that point onwards.
Making the 800 metre turn ALASTAIR’S CROWN became unbalanced and shifted out across the heels of QUEEN OF PERSIA (App S Chan).
Near the 700 metres JAYNNAH (J Missen) commenced to hang out severely despite the efforts of its rider and became un-competitive from that point resulting in the mare being eased down by its rider near the 300 metres. Trainer H Brown was advised JAYNNAH would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. A vet examination of JAYNNAH failed to reveal any abnormality.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ALASTAIR’S CROWN, which tired to be beaten in excess of 30 lengths, trainer G Hay reported the gelding had coughed up a significant amount of sand and mud following the event. He added he would be reviewing the immediate racing future of ALASTAIR’S CROWN in the coming days.
RACE 3: CLASS 3 PLATE 1170 Metres
LUCK’S ON OUR SIDE (L Appo) was slow to begin.
Stewards questioned App C Jokic, rider of LADY’S COMMAND, regarding her shifting wider on the track and losing ground making the 900 metre turn. App Jokic explained that at that point of the race she attempted to remove her goggles as a result of kickback which had hindered her vision, and that during this process LADY’S LUCK shifted out. After viewing the patrol footage stewards accepted the explanation of App Jokic, but did advise her to exercise care and to be aware of her obligations to riders around her in circumstances such as this.
I Coombes, rider of 5th placegetter GOLD RECORD, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in on that runner when required to do so.
RACE 4: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 1470 Metres
REMY MARTINI (App B Derbyshire) was slow to begin.
CRAIGLEA FOCUS (L App) shifted out at the start and bumped KUTCHER (A Merritt).
BELLADONNA DELAGO (C Kearney) knuckled on jumping and lost ground.
On the turn out of the home straight at the 1200 metres, BELLADONNA became unbalanced, shifted out and lost ground.
WAY UP THERE (App R Payne) raced wide for the majority of the event.
At scale W Abbey, rider of READY TO RULE, reported the gelding floundered in a wet section of the track near the 700 metres, became unbalanced and lost ground.
When questioned regarding the below market performance of REMY MARTINI, App B Derbyshire stated that after being slow to begin the gelding was reluctant to stretch out as a result of kickback and in her opinion was disappointing. She added REMY MARTINI was first up over 1470 metres after a short break, and this may also have been a contributing factor to the performance today.
RACE 5: BENCHMARK 70 HDCP 1470 Metres
The start of this event was delayed to avoid a clash with a SCTC feature event.
While being removed from the starting gates after being loaded into the incorrect barrier, RIVER OF GLORY became fractious resulting in App R Payne being dislodged from the gelding. App Payne was examined by ambulance officials and cleared to fulfil her engagement.
CRAIGLEA BLONDIE (L Appo) was slow to begin.
Near the 1200 metre turn, SWEET LITTLE FILLY (A Merritt) improved onto the heels of TALLAHATCHIE (App B Derbyshire) and had to be restrained.
GLENTHORN AVENUE (J Missen) raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
At scale A Merritt, rider of SWEET LITTLE FILLY, reported the filly resented the sand kickback and failed to stretch out when placed under pressure from the 600 metres.
