RACE 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP 900 METRES 6 STARTES
MORNONG AMBER (M Campbell) was laying on the side of the stalls and jumped out onto SHODAMA (b Trinder). App M Campbell was advised he must pull his horse off earlier than he did. ROMANTIC JEWEL (R Moses) jumped out onto BOWEN’S TORNADO (L Critoph) at the start. L Critoph replaced M Young on BOWEN’S TORNADO as M Young could not make the required weight. Jockey M Young was fined $50 for taking a ride when he could not make the weight AR 120 (b). FLEET ATTACK (A Molino) had to ease to avoid the heels of SHODAMA (B Trinder) at about the 400 metre mark.
RACE 2 CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 6 STARTERS
SILVER LINER (M Young) was slow into stride. MISS WITTEN (B Trinder) and DONGOLA (A Molino) came together at the start.
RACE 3 OPEN HANDICAP 1180 METRES 5 STARTERS
A Protest was lodged by G White UNIQUE UNION placed 4TH against BRONZE MINSTREL (R Gallacher) placed 1st . After taking evidence, viewing the film and on Steward’s observations, the Protest was dismissed. An Inquiry was held into an incident at about the 600 m mark, where UNIQUE UNION (G White) clipped the heels of BRONZE MINSTREL ( R Gallacher). After taking evidence, viewing the film and on Steward’s observations, R Gallacher was charged with Careless Riding - 137 (a) and pleaded Guilty and was suspended from riding in races up to and including the 9/11/99.
RACE 4 CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1180 METRES 5 STARTERS
DODGEMS (A Molino) stood in the stalls and lost several lengths at the start. DODGEMS was barred from starting LR 36 (b) and has to pass several Barrier Trials.
RACE 5 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1460 METRES 6 STARTERS
Stewards opened an Inquiry into an incident at about the 750m where SHY TALK (A Molino) had to be checked and loose ground. The Inquiry was adjourned to Townsville on the 9/11/99. Stewards intend to open an Inquiry into an incident approaching the 600 m mark in Townsville on the 9/11/99
All winners were sent to be swabbed.
SPECIAL REPORT:
Stewards received a complaint from Jockey A Molino after the running of Race 4, that he had been abused and threatened by M Gordon the owner of DODGEMS. After speaking to A Molino and M Gordon, they were advised that the matter would be reported to the Chief Steward.
