BURDEKIN RACE CLUB INC STEWARDS REPORT FRIDAY 25/04/03.

SCRATCHINGS. Race Three, ELLI IDOL Race Four, TROJAN WAR.
RACE 1: CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1460 Metres. Jockey S.WATKINS, who rode GUINN reported the saddle slipped near the 400 metre mark which inconvenienced him to some extent. Near the 300 metres BE BRUTAL (P.CULLEN) had to eased off the heels of NAPKIN (A.MOLINO), who was weakening and dropping back through the field. Whilst in the placegetters stalls after the race and after the jockey had dismounted, Ghostly Tale became entangled in the structure of the stall and had to be freed. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who reported an injury to the hind legs.
RACE 2: OPEN HANDICAP - 1460 Metres.HEAVENLY SID (J.CAIRNS) had a tendency to hang in down the straight.
RACE 3: MAIDEN HANDICAP- 900 Metres. OUR FIERY GIRL (Ms D.ANDREWS) proved very difficult to load into the barriers. Trainer (Ms J.WILLIS), confirmed the horse’s behaviour can be difficult and knew of no particular reason for its behaviour today. Trainer WILLS was advised that she would have to obtain a Barrier Certificate for OUR FIERY GIRL before the filly will be again be permitted to start. Jockeys C.MURPHY (COOL ALLEY) and A.COX (SIMILARITY) were interviewed regarding an incident soon after the start whereby COOL ALLEY was eased. MURPHY reported COOL ALLEY was very “green” at the start and COX stated the horses made slight contact. At the 600 metre turn SIMILARITY made contact with CALI BACKI BEAU (J.STOPPS).
RACE 4: GOLD ‘N’ REEF SERIES CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1180 Metres. The Spur (S.WATKINS) was slow into stride on leaving the barrier. An inquiry was held into an incident shortly after the start whereby CAREFUL LOVE (J.CAIRNS), blundered badly and lost considerable ground. After interviewing riders involved and viewing the film of this incident it was ascertained that KEPPEL LAIR (T.MAEDA) had veered in suddenly after jumping from the barriers and contacted heavily with ABUZZ (J.STOPPS), who in turn was forced onto FLYING CLEAR (L.CRITOPH) who in turn contacted heavily with CAREFUL LOVE (J.CAIRNS). Jockey Ms D.ANDREWS (I’M NOT NOSY) was also interviewed. Stewards considered the incident was caused as the result of KEPPEL LAIR jumping awkwardly and advised Apprentice MAEDA who is the regular rider of the horse to be very aware of the horses behaviour today, in future races.
RACE 5: CLASS 2 HANDICAP- 1000 Metres.Whilst parading in the enclosure prior to entering onto the track Ocean Blue (P.CULLEN), was very unrulely and dislodged the jockey on two occasions and threatened the safety of other persons and horses in the enclosure. After the race Jockey P.CULLEN received treatment from the Ambulance for a possible sprain to the left wrist. The horse is to be barred from starting in races until it shows it can behave in an appropriate manner. STAR CITY (W.KENNING) was slow into stride after leaving the barrier. At about the 500 Metres STEP ON IT (S.SIMON), was eased when MAGLI (J.CAIRNS) crossed when not clear. Jockey J.CAIRNS was reprimanded in relation to this incident for Careless Riding (AR 137{a}). On returning to scale and before “Correct Weight” was semaphored Jockey SIMONS who rode third place getter STEP ON IT, requested to view the film of the race whilst considering a protest against second place getter MAGLI. No protest resulted.
RACE 6: CLASS 6 HANDICAP- 1000 Metres.Soon after the start Dr. FRANK (L.ABBOTT) moved in and across towards the rails causing minor tightening to HOT SLOT (J.STOPPS), DARK SCOUT (J.CAIRNS) and EXPLAIN (A.MOLINO). Apprentice Jockey L.ABBOTT was reprimanded for Careless Riding (AR 137{a}), crossing when not sufficiently clear. At about the 600 Metres EXPLAIN (A.MOLINO) was checked momentarily when DARK SCOUT (J.CAIRNS) who had been travelling three wide eased and crossed to the rails. A subsequent inquiry found that Jockey CAIRNS was not sufficiently clear when crossing and he was reprimanded for Careless Riding (AR 137{a}), in relation to this incident.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED. GENERAL. Prior to commencement of the Meeting Jockey J.CAIRNS supplied a Medical Certificate to the effect that he was fit to ride at today’s Meeting.
