Race 1: Burdekin Race Club Inc.
Past Presidents CLASS 4 HCP Distance - 1640m.
1st - VIVA LA VITA 2nd - KINGS CORONATION 3rd - ANOTHER BELT 4th - OBI WAN
Shortly after the start, Jockey A.Cox was dislodged from his mount OUR UNISON. After taking evidence from Jockey Stopps it was established that the tree on Jockey Cox’s saddle had broken approximately three strides after leaving the barrier. Jockey Cox also confirmed that no other horse or rider contributed to the incident.
Upon returning to the enclosure Jockey G.Kliese the rider of the fourth placegetter, OBI WAN lodged a protest against ANOTHER BELT (S.Watkin) being declared the third placegetter, on the grounds of alleged interference over the final 150m of the event. After viewing the patrol footage Jockey Kliese sort permission to withdraw the protest, Stewards conceded to Jockey Kliese's request and correct weight was declared on the Judges placing’s.
SUSSEX (D.Price) over-raced in the early to middle stages of the event.
At approximately the 1050mtr mark MAJOR THOMSON (D.Lloyd) shifted inwards sharply and tightened the running of OBI WAN (G.Kliese) who then placed MOON JET (J.Long) into restricted racing room, which struck the running rail and steadied, which then further resulted in BENNELONG (P.Cullen) having to be checked and lose ground. On the evidence before the Stewards it was established that Jockey Lloyd had attempted to immediately relieve the pressure to OBI WAN.

Race 2: Syngenta Crop Protection Class B Hcp Distance - 1460m.
1st - MATRIX 2nd - GENEROUS LADY 3rd - DECISO 4th – MOLLYBEGOOD
FUEL TO BURN (D.Lloyd) attempted to jump the crossing at approximately the 1200mtr mark.
Jockey G.Cullen the rider of PRINCE CHALLENGER and Jockey P.Cullen the rider of BALLINSPITTLE were both advised to exercise greater care in the future after their mount came together on numerous occasions from approximately the 900mtr mark until 600mtr mark. Stewards further advised both riders that if their actions be repeated in the future, Stewards would consider taking a sterner stance in relation to the matter.

Race 3: Commercial Tavern QTIS Class 1 Hcp Distance - 1180m.
1st - LAUDERVALE LORD 2nd - LAMISTER 3rd - SEQUALO BUCK 4th – CHECOTAH
ARU was a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 1.35pm when the horse failed to arrive on course. Bookmakers were ordered to rule a line in their ledgers. Stewards ordered betting deductions be made at a rate of 7 cents in the dollar for the win portion of the bet and 8 cents in the dollar for place portions of the bets, on all bets made above the line.
BEAGLE (A.Cox) cast a near side plate behind the barriers. This delayed the starting time of the event, whilst the farrier tendered to BEAGLE.
Jockey M.Harris reported to the Stewards that his mount QUICK TALLY failed to handle the going at approximately the 600mtr mark.

Race 4: Mitavite Maiden Plate Distance - 1000m.
1st - CITY OF SMILES 2nd - WOODWIND AND BRASS 3rd - MIGHT RECITE
4th – MAJESTIC NATIVE
PEPPERTREE DANCER (J.Stopps) was a late scratching at 2.40pm when the horse refused to be loaded into the barriers. Bookmakers were ordered to rule a line in their ledgers. Stewards ordered betting deductions be made at a rate of 37 cents in the dollar for the win portion of the bet and 31 cents in the dollar for place portions of the bets, on all bets made above the first line.
KINGS ARTILLERY (D.Lloyd) was a late scratching at 2.45pm when the horse refused to be loaded into the barriers. Bookmakers were ordered to rule a line in their ledgers. Stewards ordered betting deductions be made at a rate of 23 cents in the dollar for the win portion of the bet and 18 cents in the dollar for place portions of the bets, on all bets made below the first line and above and above the second line.
Trainer G.Dempsey was advised that PEPPERTREE DANCER was now barred from racing until such time as the horse can successfully complete an official barrier trial before the Stewards.
Trainer K.Ryan was advised that KINGS ARTILLERY was now barred from racing until such time as the horse can successfully complete an official barrier trial before the Stewards.
MGHT RECITE (S.Watkin) over-raced during the middle stages of the event.
SUDDENLY (App P.Edwards) hung out when rounding the 600mtr turn.

Race 5: QRSE RACQ Insurance Class 3 Hcp Distance - 1000m.
1st - EARS KISSES 2nd - SPRITELY NED 3rd - RUPTURED 4th – GRUMPY PAT
Jockey A.Cox reported to the Stewards that his mount BLEIGHSBOY was unable to obtain clear running from the home turn until the finish line.
KAREEM (L.Abbott) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
As the start was effected SPRITELY NED (J.Long) jumped outwards and HALCYON SEAS (App R.Plumb) jumped inwards which resulted in GUM SCRUB (G.Cullen) being tightened for room between the two runners.
HALCYON SEAS (App R.Plumb) raced erratically and had to be restrained from the heels of RUPTURED (P.Cullen) from approximately the 700mtr mark until the 600mtr mark.
At approximately the 600mtr mark PENCIL (J.Stopps) had to be restrained when SPRIETLY NED (J.Long) shifted inwards. Whilst Jockey Stopps stated in evidence that his horse had hung outwards and caused this incident. Based on the weight of evidence Stewards disagreed with Jockey Stopps and issued a reprimand against Jockey J.Long for permitting his mount to shift inwards when not sufficiently clear.

Race 6: Vodka Cruiser Open Sprint Hcp Distance - 1000m.
1st - MOISEEV 2nd - EMMABEE 3rd - PROUD CANADIAN 4th - CHIEF BULLI
As the gates opened ANOTHER DIRECTION (G.Cullen) was hampered for racing room, when SNICK (G.Kliese) jumped inwards and PROUD CANADIAN (D.Lloyd) jumped outwards.
Jockey J.Stopps reported to the Stewards that his whip became entangled from the 600mtr mark until the 150mtr mark.
KELSO REEF (S.Watkin) was inclined to shift outwards when rounding the 600mtr turn.
At the 500mtr mark DR FELINE (App R.Plumb) brushed the running rail.
Jockey J.Long was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under the terms of Ar137(a) in that at approximately the 150mtr mark, he did permit his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of DR FELINE (App R.Plumb) which had to be checked and lose its position in the field. Jockey Long was subsequently suspended from riding in races from Midnight 28TH May 2005 up to and including the 11th June 2005 being a period cover by 3 NQ meetings.

Race 7: Commercial Taven & Diageo Burdekin Cup Open Hcp
Distance - 1180m.

WISE THOUGHTS (S.Watkin) jumped away awkwardly as the start was effected.
The club’s veterinary surgeon reported that GASNIER (G.Kliese) returned to the enclosure sore in the near-fore leg. Trainer T.Butts was advised that a veterinary clearance for the horse would be required prior to the horse being permitted to start again.
At approximately the 800mtr mark the saddle on RUDY NED (M.Harris) slipped which placed the rider in considerable difficulty from that stage. At approximately the 100mtr mark, Jockey Harris became extremely unbalanced and was subsequently dislodged from his mount immediately past the winning post.
