RACE 1: MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1000 METRES
MS HAVOC began awkwardly, bumped STARDUST BEAUTY, became unbalanced and lost ground.
From the 600 metres TIN MAG began to hang out across the heels of OCEAN BLUE.
Making the home turn STARDUST BEAUTY and SWAMPEM ran wide.
At the 250 metres OCEAN BLUE had to be checked when ENCHANTED SPIRIT commenced to hang out and simultaneously POOCHA shifted in momentarily.
RACE 2: OPEN HANDICAP - 1000 METRES
CHARLIE HORSE was slow to get into stride. When questioned as to the tactics adopted on CHARLIE HORSE, in particular why he failed to ride the horse out over the concluding stages, W. Kenning explained that CHARLIE HORSE was not stretching out on the hard surface and resented the dust coming back in the gelding's face. He said that in the middle stages of the event he put CHARLIE HORSE under pressure to keep in touch with the field, however the gelding failed to respond. The explanation was noted, however he was advised that in future he would be expected to test his mounts fully, at least hands and heels, in the run to the finish. He was also reprimanded for failing to weigh in after finishing fourth in the race (LR142).
RACE 3: THREE-YEAR-OLD CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1000 METRES
FEELIN FRISKY (C. Montague) began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the hindquarters of FAULTY FUSE, then over the concluding stages shifted out under pressure and at the 100 metres momentarily hampered FAULTY FUSE. C. Montague was advised that in similar circumstances he would be obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount.
RACE 4: CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1100 METRES
Prior to the race BLARNEY'S BEST was examined by the Club veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
REBEL REBEL was slow to begin.
Approaching the 100 metres DYNA GOLD was disappointed for a run between HARRY DE HOON and CONFIDENCE BUILDER, and had to be steadied across the heels of HARRY DE HOON and REBEL REBEL to obtain clear running.
RACE 5: CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES
Making the home turn BARON LAD, which had commenced to hang out from the 600 metres, brushed INTEGRA ROYAL, resulting in INTEGRA ROYAL becoming unbalanced, shifting out and making heavy contact with hindquarters of GUINN. INTEGRA ROYAL and GUINN were severely checked in consequence. Stewards accepted that the incident occurred as a result of INTEGRA ROYAL becoming unbalanced after brushing BARON LAD and that no riding error was responsible for the interference to INTEGRA ROYAL and GUINN. Nonetheless trainer Mr G. Nelson was advised that a warning had been issued concerning BARON LAD hanging out.
RACE 6: CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES
When F. Edwards, the declared rider for WILD AFFAIR, had not arrived on course due to transport difficulties, W. Kenning was substituted as the rider of WILD AFFAIR.
