Jockey P. Cullen and the connections of REDBOLT, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against ROCKETMOUNTAINHIGH being declared the winner, alleging interference approaching the 650 metres. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the video, Stewards established that approaching the 650 metres REDBOLT had to be checked when crowded for room by ROCKETMOUNTAINHIGH which shifted in when not clear. Stewards believed that the extent of the interference suffered by REDBOLT exceeded the long neck margin separating both horses at the finish and therefore upheld the protest and declared correct weight on the amended placing’s of 7, 8, 3 and 5
Apprentice L. Attard pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR 137(a). In that approaching the 650 metres he permitted his mount ROCKETMOUNTAINHIGH to shift in when insufficiently clear of REDBOLT ridden by P. Cullen who had to be checked when tightened for room and lost considerable ground. Stewards in assessing penalty took into account that apprentice Attard had only just returned to riding after some ten years and issued him with a 1 (NQ) meeting suspension which commences at midnight the 6th September 2014 and expires midnight the 10th of September 2014.
