1st – HEZA RICHES 2nd – PRINCESS FELICIA 3rd – LOVE THAT DRAGON 4th – GENERAL BEEJAY
LETS SEE ACTION was a late scratching, at 12.15 p.m. when Jockey Pawsey was unable to fulfil his engagement and stewards acceded to an application by connections to withdraw the gelding as no suitable rider was available.
HUSSELING (I. Toward) began awkwardly.
Rounding the home turn, near the 500 metres WOOLGAR ROAD (F. Edwards) hung out badly. Trainer R. Fleming will be advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of WOOLGAR ROAD.

Near the 100 metres MONASHEE SUCCESS shifted out under pressure and made contact with HEZA RICHES (S. Kaya). Jockey Atkinson was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow App. N. Bin Yadi, the rider of GENERAL BEEJAY, to view the photo finish for third place. Having done so App. Bin Yadi was satisfied with the judge’s placings and correct weight was declared.
Following the race trainer T. Rowe advised that HONEST ACTION had sustained a superficial laceration to the near hind leg.

Approaching the 100 metres STRICTLY AMAZING (A. Merritt) shifted in to avoid the heels of ALEXANDER PARADE (s. Kaya) and made heavy contact with PYRAMID GOLD (G. Kliese), which was racing to its inside. Jockey Merritt was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Over the final 50 metres LA LIONESSE (App. B. Swaffer) was forced to race in restricted room to the inside of CLIFFORD JOHN (I. Toward). Jockey I. Toward was advised to exercise more care.

1st – PANECILLO 2nd – BESIEGED 3rd – HAYDEE 4th – SIX BOB
Trainer A. Payne advised stewards that for personal reasons he was unable to attend today’s meeting. Acting on this advice, stewards permitted the late withdrawal of OTAGO at 9.11 a.m.
At the start PANECILLO (W. D’Avila) jumped inwards and made contact with HAYDEE (R. Ryan).
When the pace eased slightly near the 1100 metres HAYDEE (R. Ryan) commenced to over-race and continued to do so until near the 900 metres.

1st – REPROBATE 2nd – HUSS 3rd – RATTUS CONATUS 4th – HELIOPOLIS
After arriving on course THE TAKE dislodged its nearside front hoof pad. As the hoof pad was unable to be re-applied, stewards permitted the gelding to be re-shod with normal plates in front. Public announcements were made to that effect.
Prior to the race the Starter, Mr R. Gardner informed stewards that there was a mechanical problem with the starting gates. Accordingly, the remaining races were started manually.
Stewards permitted Jockey P. Cullen to ride RATTUS CONATUS 1.5 kg overweight as no other rider was available.
Trainer T. Rowe was fined $100 under A.R.140B for the late notification of the change of gear for KEEN ON YOU, namely for the horse to carry blinkers instead of winkers.
During its preliminary KEEN ON YOU dislodged its rider, App. B. Swaffer and galloped for a short distance before being recaptured by the Clerk of the Course. The horse was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and cleared to take its place in the field.
HELIOPOLIS (A. Merritt) was slow into stride.
At the start THE TAKE (M. Atkinson) shifted out and made contact with READY TO RIOSE (I. Toward).
Near the 150 metres RATTUS CONATUS (P. Cullen) shifted in under pressure.
A post-race veterinary examination of LEGAL POSITION (S. Kaya), which finished tailed off, revealed that the horse was lame in the near foreleg. Trainer D. Paradise will be advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance before LEGAL POSITION will be permitted to race again.

ROTHSCHILD LAD (M. Atkins) had a tendency to hang out rounding the first turn, near the 1500 metres.
When questioned as to the tactics adopted on IZACAT, which raced forward in contrast to its most recent racing pattern where it had raced midfied, Jockey I. Toward stated that from its wide barrier the gelding went forward comfortably without being pressured. Jockey Toward said that he had not intended to go forward on IZACAT, however the gelding over-raced in the middle stages despite his efforts. The explanation was noted.
