WEATHER – FINE TRACK – HEAVY RAIL – TRUE POSITION
RACE 1: TRAVELAND IPSWICH H’CAP – 1350M.
Due to a malfunction, the starting stalls would not operate when the starter, Mr R. Corvi, initially attempted to dispatch the field. As all runners were being removed from the barriers, DARMALA and BLUEBEARD broke through the front gates, however traveled only a short distance before being restrained. The problem was subsequently rectified with the starting time being delayed.
After being slightly brushed by DARMALA at the entrance to the straight, BLUEBEARD became unbalanced and shifted out, making contact with CALVERT PRINCE. A short distance later, BLUEBEARD had to be steadied away from the heels of DARMALA, which continued to shift out to obtain clear running.
Passing the 200m., STRIKE FOREVER was disappointed for a run inside PRINCE PATRICK.
A veterinary examination of BLUEBEARD, which compounded badly in the straight, revealed the gelding to be in a distressed state.
RACE 2: AWA WAGERING SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H’CAP – 1350M.
Trainer L. Mayfield Smith was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for UNCLE GWYDIR by the prescribed time.
Trainer G. Auld was fined $50 for failing to present SERENE ELEGANCE on course by the prescribed time.
The starting time for this event was put back 7 minutes to 1.02 p.m..
UNCLE HARVE and GO REETA were slow to begin.
KING LOTTO jumped outwards at the start, hampering LET’S GO NATIVE and LUCKY RAID.
CALL THE COPS also jumped outwards at the start, hampering MARAUDING ROGUE.
KING LOTTO pulled hard in the middle stages, and at the 750m. had to be checked off MAELSTROM.
GO REETA hung out during the event.
UNCLE GWYDIR also hung out rounding the home turn.
Upon straightening, CALL THE COPS shifted out to obtain clear running and in so doing made contact with CANGAZE. As a result, CALL THE COPS became unbalanced and shifted back in on to the heels of OUR BEST.
Approaching the 200m., CALL THE COPS again shifted out. At the same stage, LUCKY RAID shifted in slightly under pressure, which caused both CANGAZE and CHAGATAI to be tightened for room. M. Carson, rider of CALL THE COPS, was cautioned and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
RACE 3: QBBS BUNDAMBA PLATE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H’CAP – 1350M.
Just prior to mounting, D. Spriggs took ill and was stood down by the club’s doctor. D. Spriggs was replaced as follows: Race 3. CALL ME BUCK – B. Compton; Race 4. UNCLE JAMES – M. Carson; Race 6. MIGHTY COOL – M. Cahill; Race 8. SATSQUI – M. Cahill.
PARIS TRIUMPH, TARIAMA and JEAN were all slow to begin.
REGAL PIGGY jumped inwards abruptly at the start, resulting in CALL ME BUCK being severely hampered and also causing some inconvenience to VERSETIME.
After being held up and unable to improve, PARIS TRIUMPH shifted out on the home turn, resulting in REGAL PIGGY being taken out onto WAITING TIME, which in turn hampered NAKED EYE.
TARIAMA was held up for a run on the home turn.
RACE 4: CITY OF IPSWICH EYE LINER STAKES – 1200M.
DRAMA AMOUR cast its near hind plate on jumping away.
Approaching the home turn, MARSTIC was momentarily held up behind SAMBOA, which commenced to lose ground.
ANTIQUITY had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.
RACE 5: XXXX IPSWICH CUP – 2150M.
Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was fined $200 for failing to declare a rider for REPUTED GROOM by the prescribed time.
Trainer G. Richardson was fined $50 for failing to submit a gear change for SIR HUMMER by the prescribed time.
After being a little slow to begin, CHOSEN WARRIOR was inconvenienced soon after by DYNAMIC BLAZE, which shifted in.
M. Carson, rider of BOZEMAN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the winning post on the first occasion at a stage when not clear of MASTERFUL LAD, resulting in that horse being obliged to shift in, causing FRESNO CANYON and MORPHY to be checked. M. Carson was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 7 July, and to expire at midnight, 18 July 1999.
Making the turn out of the straight, DYNAMIC BLAZE had to be steadied when tightened for room between CHOSEN WARRIOR and MORPHY, which shifted in. M. Cahill, rider of MORPHY, was advised to exercise more care.
A veterinary examination of MONO JOKER following the event revealed the colt to have broken down in the near fore leg.
RACE 6: BORAL CONCRETE H’CAP – 2150M.
LORD KALA was slow to begin.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of I REIGN SUPREME, B. Compton stated that the horse was never comfortable in the heavy ground. A veterinary examination of I REIGN SUPREM failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 7: GENERAL NEDIYM H’CAP – 1200M.
Trainer L. Erhart was fined $50 for failing to present PRIDE ‘N’ PASSION on course by the prescribed time.
PRIDE ‘N’ PASSION jumped away awkwardly.
OUR BANKER was slow to begin.
RACE 8: JIM BEAM BLACK LABEL H’CAP – 1666M.
Stewards permitted the late withdrawal of PLANET ZAM at 3.37 p.m. on the advice of the club’s veterinary surgeon who reported that the mare was lame in the off hind leg.
No racing incidents.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
