QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.18.9.99

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S. Railton (Chairman); Mr A. Reardon; Mr J. Hackett; Mr C. Clifford; Mr W. Flynn; Mr T. Harper (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 7M. ENTIRE TRACK


RACE 1: RIGHT VIBES H'CAP - 2200M.

CELTIC REVENGE shed its tongue-tie prior to being loaded. As a consequence, the gelding competed without the use of the tongue-tie.

SIROCCO shifted in at the start, hampering CELTIC REVENGE.

Leaving the 800m., PAOTINSKY and YOUNG LANG SYNE bumped on a number of occasions when YOUNG LANG SYNE attempted to shift out to improve.

MORNING MAIL shifted out on the home turn and made contact with SIROCCO.

On the home turn, RED PADDY had to be checked when tightened for room between SUAVE DOCTOR and SIR MARKIE, which shifted out around the heels of HIDDEN HAND, which commenced to lose ground quickly. Whilst it was established that the tiring HIDDEN HAND had contributed to the incident by shifting out marginally, J. Stanley, rider of SIR MARKIE, was nonetheless reprimanded for initially shifting out when not clear of RED PADDY.

A. veterinary examination of SIR MARKIE following the event failed to reveal any abnormality.



RACE 2: ISVESTIA - 1200M.

MCALEESE jumped away awkwardly, threw its head in the air and lost ground.

At the 800m., MCALEESE again got its head up when steadied off the heels of SLIDING DOWNHILL.

SLIDING DOWNHILL hung out in the middle stages. WEST EXPRESS, which was racing to that gelding's outside, was obliged to cover extra ground as a consequence.


RACE 3: SHAIL H'CAP - 1500M.

At the 1200m., THE WOODIES had to be steadied when slightly cramped for room by RAISE YOUR BID.

When LE MANS assumed the lead at the 1100m., APPROVE commenced to race fiercely and shifted out, making contact with BRIGHTER SCENE.


RACE 4: SMOKEY'S STYLE H'CAP - 1200M.

Making the 600m. crossing, BUCKRIDGE was cramped for room by ADJUDGE.

J. Stanley reported that CRONICK was inclined to hang out during the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ALWAYS IRISH, L. Moloney stated that as a result of jumping away awkwardly he was obliged to ride the mare further back in the field than was intended. He added however that ALWAYS IRISH was never a winning chance. A veterinary examination of ALWAYS IRISH failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken from that mare.


RACE 5: SHIFT ALONG H'CAP - 1835M.

No incidents.



RACE 6: MACHETE H'CAP - 1200M.

Leaving the 100m., WIDE VISION shifted in under pressure, resulting in SAHARA ZED being taken in on to IRISH PILGRIM and FUNNY KID, both of which were inconvenienced. M. Paget, rider of WIDE VISION, was cautioned for failing to make a greater effort to keep his mount on a true course.

SAHARA ZED had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight until near the 100m..



RACE 7: INTREPID CLIPPER H'CAP - 1500M.

SHEKEL was declared a late withdrawal at 2.06 p.m. acting on the advice of the club's veterinary surgeon who reported that the gelding was showing signs of soreness in the off fore leg.

CARLTON LAD and WHISPERING POET both had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Approaching the 200m., CHINDANCER and OUR BANKER made contact when CHINDANCER attempted to shift out around the heels of FOREVER MISSED to obtain clear running.

Passing the 100m, PRINTEMPS was hampered when cramped for room between KING LOTTO and NOVA SERRURE, which shifted in under pressure.

C. Maund, rider of NOVA SERRURE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift in under pressure at a stage near the 50m. when not clear of KING LOTTO, resulting in that horse being checked. C. Maund was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 19 September, and to expire at midnight, 30 September 1999.





RACE 8: SCOMELD H'CAP - 1500M.

HATARI lost its off hind plate in running.

A veterinary examination of BRAILLE, which performed disappointingly, failed to reveal any abnormality.

L. Maloney, rider of DASHING AWAY, accidentally dropped his whip near the 300m..



GENERAL

Acting on a report from Licensing Supervisor Mr L. Bailey, stewards interviewed patron Mr B. Edwards regarding his activities prior to the running of race 6. Subsequently, Mr Edwards pleaded guilty to being in breach of A.R.160B, in that he transmitted from the grounds of the racecourse the betting odds being offered by bookmakers on a number of runners in that event in question. Mr Edwards was fined the sum of $500.


ALL WINNERS AND ALWAYS IRISH WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
