IPSWICH TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.2.2.00

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr C. McLune (Chairman); Mr T. Bailey; Mr J. Hackett; Mr D. Tapsall; Mr R. Sanders.

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 6M. ALL TRACK


GENERAL: Trainer P. Duff was fined $50 for entering GRAPPELLI (a Class 6 horse), for the Class
5 H'cap when ineligible.

As S. Katsidis was indisposed, the following riding substitutions were permitted: Race 3. CANADIAN ENCORE - M. Aspinall; Race 4: STUMPY JESTER - M. Cahill; Race 6: POINT - M. Paget.


RACE 1: QBBS H'CAP - 1010M.

CAMPASSIA bucked for some distance after the start and was subsequently retired from the event. CAMPASSIA will be required to barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

DICEY LADY was slow to begin.

A warning was placed on OUR CHEVAL which raced greenly and hung out throughout the event.

Close to the finish line, FARE EVADER and DE'JAVU SAINT brushed. BARKEEP, which was following, was momentarily hampered.


RACE 2: EYE LINER LOUNGE H'CAP - 1010M.

A veterinary examination of BROC 'N' ROLL, which became fractious in the barriers, passed the filly fit to start.

MERRYTINSK was slow to jump.

At the 800m., BUCKLERS HARD had to be eased off the heels of CYCLONE ZAMM, which shifted in. DEWILA, which was following, was also hampered.


RACE 3:TRACKSIDE LOUNGE H'CAP - 1010M.

Due to a clerical error, J. Stanley was published as the rider of EXTREME RED when in fact the rider was G. Palmer.

SHARDEE jumped awkwardly.

GOT THE EDGE shifted in shortly after the start, resulting in CANADIAN ENCORE having to be checked.

A short distance later, NOZSKIE had to be eased to avoid the heels of MONEY PAGE, which was inclined to shift in.

MACRONEY, LUCKY OMEN and EXTREME RED were all badly hampered when tightened for room between GOT THE EDGE and CALRIPKEN, which hung in despite the efforts of its rider. As a result, GOT THE EDGE was buffeted for some distance after receiving pressure on its hind quarters from MACARONEY. RAE'S GOLD, which was following, was severely checked as a result.

CALRIPKEN was taken in approaching the 800m. by MONEY PAGE, which shifted in momentarily.

Approaching the 200m., NOZSKIE was buffeted for room between CALRIPKEN and EXTREME RED, which was inclined to lay in under pressure.

Over the concluding stages, MACARONEY had to be eased after improving up on to the heels of MONEY PAGE, and in doing so shifted out, brushing CALRIPKEN.


RACE 4: JOHN STACEY ELECTRICAL H'CAP - 810M.

As B. Stewart's arrival on course was to be delayed, L. Hill was substituted as the rider of VALITY. B. Stewart was subsequently fined $50 for failing to fulfil his engagement.

SERENE MAGIC was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and found to be lame in the off fore fetlock. SERENE MAGIC was declared a late scratching at 2.20 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on SERENE MAGIC were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 11 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer G. Auld was instructed to obtain a veterinary clearance for SERENE MAGIC prior to its next race start.

YALLAH MOON was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, MONTEGO MISS and VALITY bumped, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.


RACE 5: STAFFORD ST HARDWARE H'CAP - 1200M.

Apprentice J. Baker was fined $100 for failing to claim his full allowance on LADY IVOR.

On jumping away, AUSSIE SILK and COOL DRIVE made contact.

CRYSTAL LOVER jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, resulting in NATOS losing ground.

Near the 1000m., CERRUTI was momentarily tightened for room by COUNTING GAPS, resulting in CERRUTI shifting in and making contact with COOL DRIVE.


RACE 6: COCA COLA H'CAP - 1100M.

ROEDERER was a late scratching at 8.10 a.m. on veterinary advice.
SHE'S PRETTY and KELLINA BAY were slow to begin.

HIS LEGACY jumped away awkwardly.

SHABAZZ shifted out at the start and made contact with BOSSIE GAL.

Approaching the 1000m., HIS LEGACY, after pulling hard, had to be steadied off the heels of POINT.

When the pace slackened at the 800m., BOSSIE GAL had to be steadied off the heels of SHABAZZ. GALACTIC ROMEO, which was following, had to be eased in consequence.

HIS LEGACY was held up on the home turn and then was unable to obtain clear running for some distance in the straight.

When questioned regarding the performance of GALACTIC ROMEO, trainer B. Brown stated the gelding may be better suited travelling just off the pace, as was anticipated today, rather than having to make a run from back in the field. He also added that after being hampered approaching the 300m. when THE HEAT IS ON shifted out, the gelding did not finish the race off as anticipated. A swab sample was taken from GALACTIC ROMEO following a veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 7: ENERGEX H'CAP - 1200M.

ICE PATROL jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 8: YALUMBA WINES H'CAP - 1350M.

PHYLSON was a late scratching at 10 a.m. on veterinary advice.

PSYCHIC KELLINA was slow to begin.

FOREVER GRAND, BRIAR'S ARMY, MAORI GOLD and BOSTON WHALER were all tightened for room on jumping away between PADDY DAPPER and WARRIOR KING, both of which shifted ground.

BRIAR'S ARMY pulled hard in the early stages.

Rounding the 1000m. turn, SANDY DARLING was inclined to hang out.

Approaching the home turn, when attempting to avoid the heels of the tiring FOREVER GRAND, BRIAR'S ARMY shifted in momentarily, resulting in SANDY DARLING having to be checked.



ALL WINNERS AND GALACTIC ROMEO WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
