WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 9M ALL TRACK
GENERAL: Due to transport difficulties, G Colless was unable to fulfil his riding engagements in Races 1, 2 and 4 and was replaced as follows:
Race 1 FORT OF SILVER B Stewart
Race 2 WENDY'S HOPE M Bennett
Race 4 CHARGAL M Pelling
RACE 1: PRE-M COMBINATION H'CAP - 2150M
MCGILL, which sustained minor lacerations to its off hip in the float en route to the course, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
RACE 2: PRIMER WETTING AGENT H'CAP - 1200M
Apprentice C Maund, the rider of 2nd placegetter MONGKE, was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram of his allocated weight.
RACE 3: LESCO ELITE FERTILISER H'CAP - 1025M
In the middle stages ACE RULE commenced to hang out and this enabled FAIR PAY to obtain a run to that horse's inside approaching the home turn.
RACE 4: BANNER CONTROL SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1025M
Trainer H Page was fined $50 for presenting BECKONING DANCER without blinkers.
MICHAEL'S CUE BID was slow to begin.
PEDRO'S COVE jumped away awkwardly.
MICHAEL'S CUE BID overraced in the middle stages and had to be restrained off the heels of LA HULA BELLE approaching the home turn.
Approaching the 100m SILVER CANON shifted out abruptly under pressure.
RACE 5: STORE ON WHEELS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1025M
FLYING SIMON and KEWPIE DOLL made contact on jumping away.
Shortly after the start MIGHTY GALLOP shifted out and made contact with BOOTMAN, SAM'S APPEAL and JUST DEVINE.
RACE 6: CHEMTURF H'CAP - 1523M
As M Privato was indisposed due to illness, stewards approved the following riding replacements:
Race 6 KARIETTE HOME G Baker
Race 8 CHRISTMAS CANDY J Graham
As P Birney was indisposed, J Pollard was declared as the rider of PROMISING STAR. However, due to a misunderstanding by trainer S Pepper, J Pollard had not been officially engaged for the mount and he was subsequently replaced by M Lister. Stewards accepted Mrs Pepper's explanation in regard to J Pollard being declared as the replacement rider for P Birney.
Trainer S Pepper was fined the sum of $50 for failing to present PROMISING STAR on course by the prescribed time.
Stewards accepted the explanations provided by stable representative Mrs Sears and trainer R Heathcote in regard to the late arrivals on course of ROAD TO INTELLECT and SONGYE respectively.
CANTERBURY DOWNS, which proved difficult to load, sprawled on jumping away and lost considerable ground.
Approaching the 100m POINTILLISM was tightened between CANTERBURY DOWNS and HARMONY ROAD, both of which shifted ground.
TITTLE TAT shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
TOP CORONATION suffered a bleeding attack during the race and collapsed close to the finishing line, dislodging G Duffy. G Duffy was examined by the medical attendants and declared fit to fulfil his remaining engagements. A post-race veterinary examination of TOP CORONATION revealed that the horse sustained terminal cardio-vascular shock.
RACE 7: NITROSERT LIQUID FERTILISER H'CAP - 1100M
Apprentice A Morrison, the rider of TEMPEL TUTTLE, was fined the sum of $100 for failing to claim his full allowance.
MIDNIGHT DEAL was slow to begin.
On jumping away ELITE PETITE was hampered between CONTEMPT and TEMPEL TUTTLE, both of which shifted ground.
DROP ZONE raced wide throughout the event.
BLETCHMORE was momentarily held up for clear running on entering the straight.
A veterinary examination of DURANCH revealed that the gelding had sustained a laceration to the near fore heel.
RACE 8: PRIMCO H'CAP - 1200M
MADAME D'ALBRET jumped out at the start and made contact with DONATA.
Approaching the 800m TELEBAN and SOPHIE'S GIRL were momentarily hampered when AKAARI shifted in slightly.
G Doughty reported that in his opinion DONATA was stepping short in its off foreleg during the event. A veterinary examination of DONATA following the event revealed that the horse was showing signs of respiratory distress. Stewards advised trainer K Doughty that she must produce a veterinary certificate prior to the horse's next race start. DONATA was sent to be swabbed.
RACE 9: BIOGAIN WSP H'CAP - 1200M
Trainer H Williams was fined the sum of $50 for failing to present AGINTOY on course by the prescribed time.
As G Duffy became indisposed following his ride in Race 8, M Paget was substituted as the rider of GALACTIC ROMEO.
AGINTOY was slow to begin.
SWIFT DUKE jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 250m SWIFT DUKE shifted out to improve to the outside of GALACTIC ROMEO which resulted in BASTEE BERSATU shifting out and away from SWIFT DUKE. SAHARA SOUND, which was racing to the outside, had to be steadied. B Stewart, the rider of SWIFT DUKE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Close to the finishing line BASTEE BERSATU had to be steadied when GALACTIC ROMEO shifted out under pressure.
ALL WINNERS AND DONATA WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
