WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 6M. ALL TRACK
GENERAL: As J. Byrne was indisposed, the following riding substitutions were permitted: Race 1. JUST A KNIGHT - C. Small; Race 3. COURT MINSTREL - G. Colless. Race 8. ADVANCE KNOWLEDGE - S. Galloway.
As G. Colless was unable make the weight for his 53kg engagements today M. Aspinall was substituted as the rider of BLUE SNAKE, B. Compton as the rider of KING CLAUDE (Race 6) and C. Small as the rider of TELL DARCY (Race 8). G. Colless was fined the sum of $200.
RACE 1: COLLEEN ROSELER H'CAP - 1350M.
HUGE was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon on arrival at the course. HUGE was found to be suitable to race.
As S. Seamer was indisposed, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of FAVOUR THE BRAVE, D. Craven as the rider of MRS. COSGROVE (Race 3), and J. Taylor as the rider of MORGAN LE FAY (Race 8).
Approaching the 1000m., FAVOUR THE BRAVE commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of PARIS TRIUMPH. FAVOUR THE BRAVE then continued to overrace for some distance.
RACE 2: FREDDY & DAVEY H'CAP - 1100M.
BLUE SNAKE and CALLA MEL came together at the start.
A veterinary examination was carried out on CALLA MEL, which commenced to yield ground prior to the home turn. The veterinary surgeon reported at the time of examination he could find no abnormality.
RACE 3: WANDERERS CRICKET CLUB H'CAP - 1200M.
FOCAL POINT jumped away awkwardly.
FOCAL POINT commenced to hang out after leaving the 800m., and when wide continued to do so until after entering the straight.
Approaching the 100m., M. Aspinall was obliged to stop riding when FOCAL POINT had a tendency to hang out.
A veterinary examination of FOCAL POINT failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 4: PAUL VINCENT HANDRAN H'CAP - 1000M.
HULAKAI and SENUFO brushed at the start.
Shortly after the start, PETE'S PRIDE shifted in and tightened SILVERBIRD.
After leaving the 800m., SENUFO shifted out, causing SILVERBIRD to be inconvenienced.
RACE 5: "BARRA" BOB BALMER H'CAP - 1000M.
ROAD TO CAIRO and GRANDVITA made contact on jumping away.
After travelling a short distance, ROYAL REGO and EXCITING MACEDONIA were tightened between GRANDVITA, which shifted out slightly, and MIGHTY PAYGO, which shifted in. M. Rodd, rider of MIGHTY PAYGO, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Passing the 900m., NO INTENTION had to be checked when racing inside of GOLDEN EYE. Following an inquiry, K. Yoshida was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of NO INTENTION, and his licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 7 October, and to expire at midnight, 19 October 2000.
Approaching the 100m., N. Tomizawa, rider of CLEAR MEMORY, was obliged to stop riding when his mount shifted in under pressure.
RACE 6: TOM LAWTON H'CAP - 1100M.
SHOMATAR jumped away awkwardly.
DROP ZONE shifted out at the start and made contact with TIMED IT WELL.
Shortly after, DROP ZONE then shifted in, making contact with SHOMATAR and forcing that horse across the heels of KING CLAUDE.
Passing the 500m., SHOMATAR shifted out, making contact with HONOURABLY, forcing that horse wider.
Rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight, NERVES OF STEEL was held up for clear running.
RACE 7: ROB "BURGER"HOOD H'CAP - 1350M.
FERNDALE jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, hampering TIGER MALT, which was slow to begin.
MIGHTY ROAR shifted in at the start, and made contact with UNO BLUE.
AMON RA, which haemorrhaged during the event, was declared ineligible to race for a period of 3 months. A swab sample was taken from AMON RA.
RACE 8: GEOFF SWEET H'CAP - 2150M.
As J. Walk was indisposed, M. Smith-Lester was substituted as the rider OUR GANG.
BLACK TOWER hung out making the first turn and continued to hang out until entering the back straight. Whilst hanging out, BLACK TOWER came into contact with ADVANCE KNOWLEDGE on several occasions. A warning was issued to the connections of BLACK TOWER.
BODYGUARD was held up rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight.
Leaving the 200m., TELL DARCY shifted out and came into contact with BUSKER WALK, forcing that horse to come into contact with the hind quarters of MUSICAL TOTE.
Near the finish line, TELL DARCY again shifted out and made contact with BUSKER WALK. C. Small, rider of TELL DARCY, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances when shifting ground.
ALL WINNERS AND AMON RA WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
