IPSWICH TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.30.5.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A. Reardon (Chairman); Mr G. Ireland; Mr C. Clifford; Mr W. Flynn; Mr J. Williamson (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 6M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: FROM QTC MEETING, 23.5.01 - RACE 7.

Trainer A Bailey reported that SUNSET, which had performed disappointingly, was found to be suffering from an eye injury, which he believed was as a result of the horse being struck by a clod during the event.


RACE 1: QUEENSLAND TIMES FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1200M.

Due to transport difficulties, M. Cahill was unable to fulfil his engagement on ORIENTAL PRINCESS. As no senior rider was available to ride the filly at the correct weight, permission was given for apprentice A. Merritt to ride ORIENTAL PRINCESS.

PHYLSON was slowly away.

HELLO PUMPKIN jumped away awkwardly.

DIAMONDS FOR ME pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

R. Goltz, rider of KAIMIOLA, accidentally dropped his whip at the 100m..


RACE 2: FUGI STATEWIDE PHOTOS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN H'CAP- 1200M.

R. Goltz replaced the indisposed A. Parramore as the rider of SIERRA BEAU.

SIERRA BEAU was slow to begin.

NEVER OH NEVER, which was slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start by KIMANI, which was taken out by DASHING HERB.

Approaching the 800m., HULIOUS had to be steadied off the heels of GARFIELD'S GAL, which was taken in by DE CHAMPS. C. Small, rider of DE CHAMPS, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Nearing the 400m., DASHING HERB had to be restrained off the heels of DE CHAMPS, which shifted in.





RACE 3: ORCHY FRUITIN A BOTTLE ENTIRES AND GELDINGS MAIDEN H'CAP - 1000M.

MADIBA was slow to begin.

After being slow to begin, SLICK OPERATOR raced greenly throughout the event.

RAW ACTION hung out throughout the event.

Shortly after entering the straight, M. Pelling, rider of DREAMS ARE US, attempted a narrow run between BLONDE SPIRIT and RANGERS, which initially shifted out. Approaching the 200m., RANGERS shifted in slightly and away from SLICK OPERATOR, which resulted in DREAMS ARE US making contact with BLONDE SPIRIT, causing both BLONDE SPIRIT and DREAMS ARE US to be checked.


RACE 4: STRIKE FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN H'CAP - 1000M.

DRY MARTINI jumped awkwardly and brushed ORMOLU.

Near the 900m., CANDY WALK shifted in, tightening the running of ORMOLU and DRY MARTINI.

DRY MARTINI had to be restrained off the heels of ZARABI near the 200m.

Close to the finish line, ZARABI had to be steadied off the heels of DRY MARTINI.


RACE 5: PHARMACY PRINTING CLASS 4 H'CAP - 1000M.

JILLINA BLUE jumped awkwardly and made contact with LONG LONG VIVID, losing some ground.

Inside the 200m. GOLDEN DUE and DROP ZONE made contact.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT was forced to race wide throughout.


RACE 6: UFS PHARMACY CENTENARY TROPHY CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1666M.

As N. Jolly was indisposed, B. Stewart was substituted as the rider of SURPRISE ATTACK.

SURPRISE ATTACK shifted out at the start and made contact with MAJOR FORCE.

SURPRISE ATTACK and THUNDERBURST had difficulty obtaining clear running from the entrance to the straight until near the 50m..

Near the 50m., TENBY SOMETHING shifted out under pressure and made contact with LETAINE. As a result of this shift Z. Purton, rider of TENBY SOMETHING, allowed his mount to shift back in towards the running rail, resulting in GANGSTER, which had improved quickly to his inside, having to be checked. Z. Purton was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

M. Pelling reported that he was of the opinion that something was amiss with BANKER'S PRAYER and eased the filly out of the event upon straightening. A veterinary examination of BANKER'S PRAYER failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 7: IPSWICH ADVERTISER CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1350M.

Shortly after the start, NIGHT ATTACK shifted in and made heavy contact with ZEE.

Approaching the 1000m., when the pace steadied, SNAADINI DESIGN had to be restrained off the heels of TUNE TO.

Z. Purton, rider of FESTIVA, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out making the home turn, resulting in FESTIVA making contact with ZEE, causing that horse to become unbalanced.

ZAMCAY was held up for clear running from the entrance to the straight until close to the finish line.

SILVERTHORNE and SNAADINI DESIGN had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.


RACE 8: MIKASA CLASS 5 H'CAP - 1350M.

Trainer G. Cross was fined $50 for nominating DIET DAZE for this event when ineligible.

SHAREEF ROCKET was very slow to begin.

AGINTOY raced ungenerously for some distance in the middle stages.
