IPSWICH TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 29.06.02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S Railton (Chairman), Mr A Reardon, Mr J Hackett, Mr W Flynn, Mr R Sanders, Mr W Birch

WEATHER – FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL – OUT 1M

RACE 1: IPSWICH'S OWN H'CAP – 1200M

MILLENNIUM BELLE was slow to begin.

ICY GRIP jumped out at the start making contact with YOGI'S EDITION which in turn bumped COMMAND THE WIND.

VIVID MISS was obliged to race very wide during the event.

At the 550m MILLENNIUM BELLE brushed the running rail and became awkward.

For some distance in the early part of the straight BROCARD was held up behind the tiring ICY GRIP.

COMMAND THE WIND was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that MILLENNIUM BELLE bled from one nostril following the event.

RACE 2: ITEL COMMUNITY TELCO LIMITED H'CAP – 1666M

Trainer P. Moody was fined $50 for failing to declare M. Rodd as the rider of ADVANCE KNOWLEDGE by the prescribed time.

Trainer D. K. Munce was fined $50 for presenting GLADMAC late on course.

WYNGROVE jumped away awkwardly and then veered out, severely hampering BLAKEHURST and ANCORA FILA.

When steadied by its rider at the 1500m, WYNGROVE got its head up and ran out across the heels of RAGNAR. CANTERBURY DOWNS, which was racing to the outside of WYNGROVE, had to be checked away from the heels of that gelding. WYNGROVE continued to race ungenerously for some distance following this incident.

Leaving the 600m CLASSIC FRONTIER was momentarily cramped for room inside RAGNAR.

Upon straightening FORGING'S LAD had to be restrained when attempting a run to the inside of SUPER ESPION where there was doubtful room.

Leaving the 100m NOVA and GLADMAC were both hampered by CENTONA which shifted in under pressure. Z. Purton, the rider of CENTONA, was reprimanded for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent CENTONA shifting in at that stage.

CLASSIC FRONTIER suffered a bleeding attack during the event. As this was the first occasion on which the gelding had bled, trainer P. Hulbert was advised that CLASSIC FRONTIER would incur a mandatory three month ban from racing. A swab sample was taken from CLASSIC FRONTIER.

RACE 3: YALUMBA BUNDAMBA PLATE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1350M

As D. Nikolic's arrival at the course was delayed, L. Currie was substituted as the rider of NO STOPS. D. Nikolic's explanation for being late on course was accepted.

Z. Purton, who took ill after riding CENTONA in race 2, was examined by the Club's doctor and stood down from his engagement on STARS O' GOLD in this event. V. Caddy was substituted as the rider of that colt.

CAP JUAN jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the hind quarters of KITNAT.

Soon after the start, both CAP JUAN and KITNAT were further hampered when cramped for room by CANMINE which shifted in. K. Yoshida, the rider of CANMINE, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

After travelling a short distance GRANDWAY SHOGUN commenced to buck and shifted out abruptly, resulting in SNOWY WEATHER being severely checked. In this incident both GRANDWAY SHOGUN and SNOWY WEATHER lost considerable ground. Trainer B. Guy was advised that GRANDWAY SHOGUN must pass an official test prior to its next race start.

Approaching the 500m GRANDWAY SHOGUN shifted in abruptly, inconveniencing SNOWY WEATHER.

PETRIA was held up for clear running until approaching the 100m.

STARS O' GOLD was unable to obtain clear running at any stage in the straight.

After having difficulty obtaining clear running, CAP JUAN had to be steadied approaching the finishing line when cramped for room by LION'S REVENGE which was taken in slightly by JANUARY.

RACE 4: SCHWEPPES T.L. COONEY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1350M

POLENTA was slow to begin.

VAIN AND HANDY, which was also a little slow to begin, received contact from TELEGRAND which jumped out.

Approaching the 1000m SHANNON LEE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CATERER which shifted in. L. Currie, the rider of CATERER, was cautioned and reminded of his obligation to provide at least two lengths clearance.

MY VISION SPLENDID was held up for a run in the early stages of the straight.

For the majority of the home straight READY TO REV was held up behind the tiring AWESOME NIGHT.

A swab sample was taken from the 2nd placegetter EXPELLED.

RACE 5: MCDONALDS CLASSIC – 1350M

As K. Purdy was indisposed, M. Carson was substituted as the rider of SEND A DIVA.

Approaching the 1100m POURQUOI was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of KAVORKA which lost ground after being cramped for room between SEND A DIVA and KEA LEAH which shifted out slightly.

For some distance in the straight LADY ISABELLA was held up behind the tiring ALOHA CHARM.

POURQUOI also had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

When questioned regarding the performance of WEST WARD, J. Taylor stated that the mare led as expected, however was beaten on the home turn. He indicated that today's performance had mirrored the mare's recent performances which could only be described as disappointing. The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that, upon examination, WEST WARD was found to have a nasal discharge and also exhibited some respiratory distress. Trainer G. Ryan advised that in light of WEST WARD's performance today, there was every prospect that the mare would be retired from racing.

RACE 6: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE EYE LINER STAKES – 1200M

As no other rider was available who could ride nearer to the allotted weight, V. Caddy was permitted to rider LA SERENADE 1kg overweight. V. Caddy was reprimanded for being overweight.

At the request of its rider P. Hammersley, ETE PINS was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

OMBRA DELLA SERA jumped away awkwardly and made contact with ZEPPLIN.

Leaving the 800m COINCIDENCE had to be checked off the heels of BOMBER BILL.

Approaching the 600m GREAT CRUSADER had to be checked off the heels of ZEPPLIN which at that stage commenced to lose ground.

Approaching the 200m FRISKY STAR had to be checked off the heels of the tiring LA SERENADE.

Soon after the finishing line OUT BREAK shifted in causing severe crowding to JILLINA BLUE and KING LOTTO. Stewards accepted that M. Gatt, the rider of OUT BREAK, had made sufficient endeavours to prevent this occurrence.

A veterinary examination of ZEPPLIN, which tailed off, revealed that the horse had broken down in the near fore tendon.

Following the event MACHTIG MIHI PANIS was found to be bleeding from both nostrils. Trainer P. Blackwell was advised that as this was the second occasion on which MACHTIG MIHI PANIS had bled, the gelding would be banned from future racing. A swab sample was taken from MACHTIG MIHI PANIS.

RACE 7: XXXX IPSWICH CUP – 2150M

After travelling 200m STRANGE CONFLICT commenced to overrace after receiving pressure on the hind quarters from FLYING SPARKS.

A swab sample was taken from the 2nd placegetter VICTORY SMILE.

A veterinary examination of ALTIERO, which again performed disappointingly, failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that MALTESE BEAUTY, which compounded badly in the straight, was found to have broken down in the near fore fetlock.

RACE 8: IPSWICH PLAYERS' SPORTSBAR H'CAP – 2150M

CITY RHYTHM commenced to race ungenerously before veering out abruptly on the first turn, causing PSYCHIC KELLINA to be severely checked and in turn forced extremely wide. As a consequence, both CITY RHYTHM and PSYCHIC KELLINA lost a deal of ground. Stable representative Mr S. Alderson was advised that a warning was being placed on CITY RHYTHM in relation to its racing manners.

When CITY RHYTHM again veered out after passing the winning post, MIDNIGHT DEAL shied at that runner, resulting in its rider M. Dracos being dislodged.

ALL WINNERS, CLASSIC FRONTIER, EXPELLED, MACHTIG MIHI PANIS AND VICTORY SMILE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
